Three and a half years after the pandemic officially began, how are you finding your life is treating you?
My home city (Melbourne, Australia) had the longest lockdowns and curfew anywhere in the world. We became accustomed to circumstances and did what we were told well most people did. It almost seems like a bad dream or nightmare but there were too many deaths and dreadful effects from the disease.
Unfortunately many people have become complacent and no longer follow the strict hygiene rules that were put into effect. Once again we are seeing people spitting in the street (my personal pet hate) and not covering their mouth when coughing.
Let s hope common sense once again, prevails.

In the USA - last year (2022) 244,986 people were killed by covid19. The population of the USA is around 335,600,000 people and rising. Unfortunately, the USA government never took covid19 serious and still doesn't take covid19 serious. I have stop travelling on an international and nation level for over three years and ten months. I still wear a mask - in public (and private) areas for over three years and ten months!!

I still feel very uncomfortable with the way so many people think the pandemic never happened and believe it was a “conspiracy” BLM.

Pam I grew up in a time when people constantly died from smallpox, diphtheria, polio, flu and a heap of diseases that many now do not give a second thought to. That was the mid 1950s and I am glad I only had to “put up” with measles and mumps.

It must be frightening for those who have turned there back on having the necessary vaccines. If that little jab saves your life be glad we have clever chemists who have invented them. Who would want another form of "the Black Death"?

The virus was new when the pandemic begun but now we know what we're dealing with. It's safe to say that we've all (Countries) achieved herd immunity now so the initial hygiene rules no need to be as strict. People should practice good hygiene regardless but there's no need for the extreme hygiene rules anymore.

My (personal) opinion is that there are still too many cases out there to discontinue hygiene standards Christina. I did some checking a couple of days ago on the number of cases in various countries and numbers are still worrying.

We're closer to herd immunity than no immunity. In NZ they've lifted all mandates and doctors or other medical professionals no longer wear masks and just follow standard hygiene now. I trust that they know what they're doing.

I tend to think that the doctors know a lot more than I do.

so much for your herd immunity theory,, different strains need different vaccines, and the covid right now is on the rise here in the US

That's true, but having immunity to previous versions of covid reduces severity of future infections - same reason why we get vaccinations. This virus is constantly evolving, however immunity covers more than just the spike protein (what most vaccines target), so if you've had a natural infection (safe to say most of us have) then it's highly probable your body would have picked up on at least one of the more evolutionary conserved proteins as our immune system dissected each viral particle. It's the same reason why people who have contracted SARS generally have less of a problem with covid due to being close evolutionary cousins - due to those evolutionary conserved proteins which don't mutate as rapidly as the spike protein.

You're right to be concerned though and it's good that you're considerate for the safety of yourself and others by using good hygiene - we all appreciate people who are caring.

Totally agree with the complacency and because restrictions have been lifted, most people do not even bother getting tested when they have symptoms.

Two of the aged care homes in my area are in lockdown because of the amount of Covid cases there. I “just happened” to get my sixth Covid vaccination last Friday.
