Which were your favourite candies when you were a child? Can you still find them? What are your favourites now?
I had two favourite candies when I was a kid, but I'm not sure if either one was technically a candy.
The first was a type of licorice. We called them shoe strings. They came in two colours, green with a minty taste and red with a cherry flavour.
But my favourites were called pixie stix. They were paper straws closed at both ends. Inside was a powder that came in several flavours. Somewhat like koolaid powder. You tore off one end of the straw and poured the powder into your mouth. If you made the mistake of inhaling while you were doing that you could end up with one major coughing fit, but it was worth it. The flavours were intense.
About 15 years ago I was able to find them in the US, but haven't seen them in Canada.
Two of my favourites now are sour keys and rockets.
