Luck or Omen?
Katzeye25-Aug-20 11:18 am
So today for lunch I was cooking myself up a couple of poached eggs and after cracking the eggs in the pan I noticed one egg had a double yolk!..This is supposedly a rare thing, one in one thousand chance of happening and can be considered good luck or bad luck, even the sign of twins in your immediate family..Has anyway ever had this happen?

  • This thing is very common, it happens in human as well when it results in twins, I would rather stick with science on this one dear Annette ;)

    • No, I've never encountered it. I'm not superstitious. I don't look at from a good or bad omen. Just accept it as it is! I think I would be amazed and surprised if it happened to me. Your lucky you witnessed it. I'll eat the double egg yolk for you. I love eating eggs. You're lucky I wasn't with you, as I would have eaten them right in front of you. What do you think of that? Don't let it worry you. I'm sure it's a freak of nature.

      • I've had a few of those. I'd go with luck just like a four leaf clover. My mum had two sets of twins and my sister who is a twin had twins.......we have a history of them, it's genetic.

        • I bought some eggs from Coles recently and the first two eggs were double yokers. First time I have seen one since I was a child.

That's good news to hear nothing bad has happened,I wish I could say the same thing.Since I got the double yolk,I have had a very sick cat,a massive chip in my windscreen from a stone that flicked up from a passing car,not fixable so is going to be a new windscreen arghhh!..The third thing, unable to sell my jewellery in my local shop because not enough sales. No one is buying anything since covid happened.

        • My internet says that young chickens lay double yolks at a rate of 1 in a 100 too...maybe your internet is unlucky?
          ·
          • I don't think so lol..maybe you missed reading that last zero!
            ·
        • When we had chooks this was a fairly common occurrence. I always thought it good luck to get 2 yolks and I never got twins from eating them. I did find a stray kitten in the chookhouse once though, called it Cecil

          • Quite common if you live in the country and get your eggs from a chook farm; double yokers and delicious!
            ·
            • Store brought and most probably caged because they are the cheapest to buy here unless you know some one that has a few hens

          • i dont think its rare at all,i get most of our eggs from an egg farm and i always ask for man size,9 out of 12 will be double yolkers, amazingly i bought a dozen eggs from a store just before xmas, the box felt heavier than usual, every one of them was a double,i took photos, and put on social media, very ununusual for store bought eggs
            ·
            • They were store brought eggs which is why I thought it was unusual too.
