Grammar these days
Beverley S 38300112-Aug-22 10:11 am
Do you find the grammar used in public statements is atrocious these days? I cringe nearly every day at the obvious errors made in newspaper, television and radio reports. Today an instruction to a group I am associated with stated that for a performance the Band was to wear "Uniform: Marching Shirt no hats, pants, shoes etc". This was written by a lawyer who I would have thought would have a high standard of English. (I commented "Wow, that will get the Band some publicity!") I made a joke of it, but really it is quite appalling.

I don't really mind too much- have much more heavy stuff to worry about- like not catching Covid at the moment or my city melting from all the rain and slips everywhere, or being able to afford fuel to get places and on and on. Or having the strength to get out of bed in the morning!

I find the texting language insane, I really don't get slang it confuses the hell out of me, I helped this lady who had fallen over the other day she said thank you and that I was dope, I had no idea what she meant till my granddaughter informed me what dope means today,

Robert, one of my grand daughters grew up with us, when she was about 5 she asked about computers and how i was building them, so i started letting her help me, and to tell the truth, it helped me a lot, cuz small hands can reach in and plug/unplug things that big hands like mine can't easily, but she always asked what those things did that she was hooking up,, she just turned 21 and i had a computer custom built for her ao she can be at the top of her game when it comes to graffix design, and game design, to go along with her clothing thing swap/something good for all is what i know,, all that from helping her papa build computers,, i'm a proud papa Robert, i got some great grand kids, and yeah i spent ashitload of money for her new computer, and she will make it all worthwhile with what she gets out of it,,,, moral of the story is keep the grand daughter close by and you will end up being the coolest granpa in town, and you be on the street like a gangsta and all,,, well maybe not that much, but you will learn something new and cool, and i guarantee it will make you feel younger,,, ;-))

she does that cheers bloke I have all 3 grandkids with me they are the lifeblood of me, I am a bit of an artist been painting since covid cost me my job, and have been selling them getting around 300 to 500 each, all cash is donated to a friend of mine who runs a homeless shelter, but each kid has added to the picture painting a small part, and to see there faces especially Kacey my granddaughter who is 12 she is over the moon, its a priceless feeling seeing kids grow, and achieve, she also won a school scholarship recently because she helps her younger brother who is autistic I am a very proud grandparent I can tell you,a tired one, but very proud as I can tell you are, good luck to you allin I wish you and your granddaughter well

Grammer is important in a formal setting (Example: Law office). Grammer is not important in an informal setting (Example: Rewardia.com).

Not all of us are tuned to words. I've noticed that quite brilliant maths and science people have atrocious grammar and spelling. As a child I was often sick with tonsilitis and Mum to stop me going cabin mad tried to find me books. This paved my way to the love of English and books in every genera. Fiction, history, westerns, horror I read the lot.I have put this as my reason for loving not only books but the fascination of English and its long history which gobbles up words from other languages and claims it for its own. Since the internet our language has become almost mated to the American version but 'Spell Check' i s not necessarily the perfect match for the Australian/English language.

Mistakes by politicians (who are often supposed to use speech writers) by the journalists and presenters on TV, on the web... and in print...let's all save some money, get rid of proofreaders and editors (and the people who check facts)....there is this great little application instead and its free.....on the educational side, slowly getting rid of writing and reading isn't helpful either

Because, spelling, grammar, and punctuation are a huge strength of mine (math not at all), I get so frustrated by the lack of people's ability to put together a sentence that is grammatically correct as well as misspelled words and lack of appropriate punctuation. It's like a pet peeves, especially in the professional world. It speaks to me of lack of education. But I'm not educated in all the math varieties. Math and it's sister subjects are a foreign language to me. I guess it's my brain and which side is stronger.
