Why is it so hard to buy a used car with low mileage?
Dianne W 79596228-Feb-23 06:23 am
My car needs a new engine that will cost me $6 to $8 grand to fix. I am looking at used cars and most of them have more mileage than what I have now. I do NOT want a new car as those prices are outrages. What is a person to do?

If you want to see above the clouds - a buy a giraffe.
    • i have a flying saucer chosen, i see above the clouds all the time ,,,,
  • I bought used car with low mileage, such cars sell fast 馃榾
    • Used cars with low mileage hardly in the use car sales they tend to go to a family member that buys it of them.
      • I don't drive - vision issues - however, I will type used car with low mileage into my home computer and it will bring up websites, if you are in the USA - then go to BBB.org to check on websites that pique your interest - if not register with BBB.org - pass on the website
        • Most of my cars have cost around $2,000 to $3,000...all the spare parts are really cheap...because they aren't new.....SAAB 9000?..."new engine?"...$2000....and when you sell them they are still worth $2000....don't go to a car dealer...use a website like Carsales.com...I have bought some beautiful vehicles there for far less...from private sellers...with REALLY low mileage....probably 6?...no problems at all.... hope that helps Dianne
          • If you have dealt with someone you can trust (there's an if) tell the salesperson what you're looking for in a used vehicle some will watch trade ins or finished leases for a quick swing around.
            • You get what you are prepared to pay. The market is the market. Why not change to a motor scooter or motor bike. No/little cost re service/petrol and easy parking and no traffic hold ups. A simple solution.
              • I went to 3 car dealers and 2 of them suggested leasing a car. I finally got a dealer that will listen to me and I found a lease for a 2023 BRAND NEW car with a monthly payment I can afford. Thank You all for listening.
                • That sounds like a good choice.
                • Leasing isn't really a good idea. In the long run you'll end up paying far more than you would by simply buying it (especially if you have the cash to pay it in full immediately or via an interest-free financing deal).
              • If a mechanic gives you a quote of 6 -8 grand, you can bet it'll be closer to 8 grand. I could give you advice but I'd need more info such as the year, make, model, and odometer reading of your car. And your location.
                • I have not owned a car for over 20 years. Ubers. Public Transport. Home deliveries. Bicycle. You don't NEED a car. But if you want the convenience they provide - you'll have to pay for it - like everyone else, I guess.
                  • If it was possible everyone would have one.
                    • Walk take a train or bus. Good used cars are hard to come by cause no one is selling. If you don't get it we're going thru a major technological step change and parts crisis due to supply chain issues. Electric cars hybrids etc. Check the wreckers see if they have a write off of the same make. Otherwise use public transport it's cheaper anyway and you meet all sorts on it. It's so fun really!!!

                      • Public transport in the bush?. Now there' a novel idea.

good comment Campbell C considering that only 28% of the population lives in rural areas. You're so lucky I guess. I should have been clearer in my initial comments. Thank you so much.
