Hospital Speak
Recently, I spent time in the hospital. I was discharged, yet received numerous notations, SMS messages, emails, plus standard mail appointments covering possible elective surgery. This barrage of information is in the usual hospital speak. Readable yet lengthy and can leave one unsure, especially when unwell.
Hospital speak is a language all of its own, giving credence to what they wish to do with you and to you, often with extra testing done if their is risks involved. Most people accept and go along with this information without question, unknowingly, if their personal rights may be compromised.
Even with the help of a pre-professional advocate, the hospital system can have mishaps, block communication, and block elective surgery if they deem it necessary.
So please all be assertive of your rights, aware of possible side testing, and get your appointments and pre-admissions done with help from an advocate.
