Pet tails/tales

Alot of us Rewardian's have or have had pets in our lives- i have always been privileged to have precious creatures in my life.
Just wondered if anyone felt like sharing a funny story or something memorable one of their animals- past or present- has done.
I love seeing people's profile pics of their animals.
We have had many funny experiences- one in particular with my husband's special fellow Bronson, who lived until he was 16. Hubby took him to visit a friend who was building a castle- yes a castle. The friend's dogs all ran around the back which was up a slope and into the 3rd storey. Bronson ran with them- the dogs all ran to the front and stopped at the balcony except Bronson who leapt out into the air thinking there was ground right there. He sailed down three storeys. Hubby ran down expecting a severely injured doggy but Bronson was tough and had rolled on the hill and was fine.
Would love to hear some tales..tall or small.

I had a doberman cross..called Scooby Doo because of a reasonable likeness...and took him to Pevensy Castle...which is surrounded by a large moat...on the walk, Scooby ran ahead smelling things and making sure I was still following...and instead of waiting...ran out onto the moat which was heavily covered in LARGE lilly pads..half way across he realised that what was below him was not ground...stopped...and managed to look around briefly in alarm...before disappearing into the moat...it was like a Warner Bros cartoon...fantastic!

Friends of mine lived on a large property in country NSW. When the kids were small, they had a pet emu. They used to ride it and play with it and the thing thought he was one of them. When the kids got older, one by one they all went to boarding school. With no kids to play with the emu got cranky and became quite rude and pushy. The father was a rough cocky and he decided that the emu had go back to the bush again. He loaded the emu onto the back of the ute and drove out into the bush for 2 hours. He unloaded the emu and drove off, leaving it there. When he got home the emu was waiting for him by the front porch. The emu stayed.

Not so much tales but 'special' pets. We had a fish for three years born with a pectoral fin missing hence named 'No fin'. A three legged Chihuahua. Our pet store had someone throw a box of kittens over their fence, we adopted the last one who would hide in dark areas (traumatic experience no doubt) so we named him Shadow. And our ragdoll mix who thinks he's a dog, responds to different whistles, will sit at his bowls and wait til I fill them up and say 'off you go' before he eats, he also believes the cows are his family.

I do not have any type of pets and I never had any inclination to own a pet. However, I saw a movie called "The Daring Dobermans (1975)" - clever Doberman pinschers (dogs) that were being trained to become bank robbers (once upon a time - a goal of mines) - my type of "pet" - since I have a ton of untapped latent criminal behavior in me - (aka capitalism and aka white-collar crime) - lol!

The first movie is "The Doberman Gang (1972)". The second movie is "The Daring Doberman (1973 or1975). The third movie is "The Amazing Dobermans (1976)". The last movie is "Alex and the Doberman Gang (1980)". You might "find" the movies at youtube.com.

I have many many of our two beautiful border collies ,we had growing up.Ben used to hear the school bell 3 blocks away and come down to collect my sister and me. Gorgeous boy but lived to roam. Would often disappear for a weekend getaway ,sniff out someone's BBQ,and their female poodle ...mum gets a call 2 days later. We've had your lovely dog here all weekend ! Even tho he had his ph. number tag lol. So off dad would go... Then Cassie.OMG.we sprinkled fish food in the pond, later discovered a big munch mark in one of the lily pad leaves. She had tentatively lent over the edge( avoiding at aall costs to get wet) just for a taste. Those dogs would eat whole rose bushes overnight. Heard mum say one morning ,looking out the windows,"Tony, where's my hibiscus got to??"

I know ,you would love to know what they got up to?...our dogs were fed mind u ,the very best bones, home cooking and the primo dog food. Another time with Cassie she must have watched and patiently waited on mum's avocado tree to drop it's prized fruit while we were out one day. 5YRS she had grown it from a pip. We get home to find 5 avocado pips neatly ( and completely licked clean) all lined up on the back door mat.Mum was furious!!

Gods Sake-that would have been beyond infuriating! Funny down the track though. I had a precious strawberry plant i was nuturing but only for a summer- not 5 whole years...kept wondering where the strawberries were going til i caught miss Piggins nipping the ripened treat delicately from the plant. Grrrrr!

You can see one of my pets in the avatar photo. She (Tiggy) was inspecting the stairs for goat poo and when she couldn’t find any immediately set about remedying the situation…

Awwww Tiggy..she sounds very smart indeed. I would love a few goaties but i know they are very cheeky. Our friend- the castle guy mentioned above- had goats. I loved how they always sat on top of their little houses. And their little cute beards!

Tiggy is grown up now with a not-so-baby of her own called Leo, he is a beautiful friendly boy too. Tiggy had twins this year in the middle of winter during a severe frost and lost them both. She was distraught for days and refused to move from the birth place, but she is ok now. Once I slipped over and fell when getting wood for the fire and she immediately ran to me to check I was ok… She is a special one…

How sad she lost her babies :( Sweet goatie girl- they a bit like doggies it seems-checking on her Papa.

Yes, I was quite shocked (in a nice way) about the way she ran over to me to check I was ok… She had a bent leg when she was born and I put it in a splint and had her inside a while by the fire, till it straightened up and got strong enough to walk on… That is just one of the many goat tales that happen around here…. ‘Coz there are a lot of goat tails around here…

We found that one of our two dogs got fascinated with his reflection in our bedroom cupboard's mirrors. Sometimes we would leave the doors open and he would poke his head around to try and find himself. He was a rescue dog so we didn't really know his age but he wasn't a puppy. His antics made us laugh and he would give a disgusted look and slink off only to come back a little later and find him image still looking at him.

        • mary c
haha the clever fellow- i'm sure the smarter ones can notice themselves in mirrors and see things on tv. Not quite my wee girl dogs' area of expertise :) My sis had a very smart Westie terrier. We were staying with her once and she had to go our- she said don't change the tv channel to the Nat Geo Animal one..so of course we did. He went crazy and was barking and running around watching the tv.
