BLACK LIVES MATTER12-Mar-23 03:21 pm
When 'rich countries' rob poor nations, it is called 'capitalism'. When 'poor countries' fight back it is called 'socialism'.

pure semantics without any sound reasoning behind the statement (one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter) - example: colonialism which was global terror on a level never seen in the history of mankind - and only white people STILL benefit from colonialism, but your statement sounds really positive ideology (aka as blaming the victim - LMAO)

see Tom, in the good old USA, black, red, yellow, you will be on the front lines killing in the name of god and democracy,, we were heroes, but when we come home, and are not wearing the uniform, for some strange reason, we seem to become the terrorists, but the extreme right wing of our government are pissed off as old white racist pigs are scared because they are becoming the minority,, one day racism will be bred out of our society,, until then, it's business as usual for the racists,,,

I stole this from a Reddit post. Please have a read of this, Robert L from NZ, hopefully it will clear things up for you :) GeekAesthete Imagine that you're sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don't get any. So you say "I should get my fair share." And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, "everyone should get their fair share." Now, that's a wonderful sentiment -- indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad's smart-ass comment just dismissed you and didn't solve the problem that you still haven't gotten any!The problem is that the statement "I should get my fair share" had an implicit "too" at the end: "I should get my fair share, too, just like everyone else." But your dad's response treated your statement as though you meant "only I should get my fair share", which clearly was not your intention. As a result, his statement that "everyone should get their fair share," while true, only served to ignore the problem you were trying to point out. That's the situation of the "black lives matter" movement. Culture, laws, the arts, religion, and everyone else repeatedly suggest that all lives should matter. Clearly, that message already abounds in our society. The problem is that, in practice, the world doesn't work the way. You see the film Nightcrawler? You know the part where Renee Russo tells Jake Gyllenhal that she doesn't want footage of a black or latino person dying, she wants news stories about affluent white people being killed? That's not made up out of whole cloth -- there is a news bias toward stories that the majority of the audience (who are white) can identify with. So when a young black man gets killed (prior to the recent police shootings), it's generally not considered "news", while a middle-aged white woman being killed is treated as news. And to a large degree, that is accurate -- young black men are killed in significantly disproportionate numbers, which is why we don't treat it as anything new. But the result is that, societally, we don't pay as much attention to certain people's deaths as we do to others. So, currently, we don'ttreat all lives as though they matter equally.Just like asking dad for your fair share, the phrase "black lives matter" also has an implicit "too" at the end: it's saying that black lives should also matter. But responding to this by saying "all lives matter" is willfully going back to ignoring the problem. It's a way of dismissing the statement by falsely suggesting that it means "only black lives matter," when that is obviously not the case. And so saying "all lives matter" as a direct response to "black lives matter" is essentially saying that we should just go back to ignoring the problem.TL;DR: The phrase "Black lives matter" carries an implicit "too" at the end; it's saying that black lives should also matter. Saying "all lives matter" is dismissing the very problems that the phrase is trying to draw attention to.

Which is a major problem with capitalism - with corruption comes white-collar-crime (aka corporate greed). Think: Banking scandal of 2008 - which almost bring down capitalism on this planet (which in my opinion would have been a GOOD THING)!

As an external observer..I don't think most Americans understand that Communism is a wonderful concept..but that "Communism" as it is practised everywhere on the planet just does not work well (a bit like Capitalism)...they are taught that it is the polar opposite of capitalism and must be crushed.....similarly..that socialism is the same thing (which it is not)..at its best socialism is clever blendings of both concepts...France is a good example of this...hope that is relevant... George Orwell's book Animal Farm lays out where the great dream went terribly wrong...using a farm to represent Russia...

Ever read the concepts of Karl Marx? Ever heard of Vladimir IIyich Ulyanov aka Vladimir Lenin (the world's first revolutionary political theorist)? Every heard of the most misquoted political theory in the world: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." FYI: The USA is perfection when it comes to CAPITALISM (when capitalism is functioning at its best). Furthermore, in the true sense of the word - socialism - I was being sardonically. Come on mate (APB) - you can give me a 'better' rationale :-)).

Not well versed as you all seem to be but I wonder how come when capitalism is taken out of the agenda and then you have communism which makes people poor and ruled with an iron fist better than at least having some choices you can make whether good or bad. Then you have the dictators - another no go zone for me. Wherever there is money there is graft, corruption etc. however, in some countries there also goes mass poverty of practically the whole population and laws and rules that are from the dark ages aka girls not being educated, vaccination programs disallowed, people put in camps, beatings, the list goes on. I am not saying capitalism is the be all end all and perhaps it will fail but it scares me what the options are out there. If it does fail, where would that leave us all. No money coming in from social security, ex wives or husbands, hospitals would be destroyed, no jobs to speak of, farming would suffer so famine would abound. It would take many many years for something to replace it and then would it be a success?

It is a long and difficult discussion...nothing is black and white..I spent a little time in East Germany..it was different but it functioned...when the wall came down most people celebrated..they were free...but before hand ...everyone had a guaranteed job...everyone had a guaranteed home..no-one was left hungry...free health care...free education....no homeless people....that is all gone now....some people miss that....and you can see Communism working fine in Vietnam....no system is perfect ....it is just up to the leaders to create a fair, sensible and just system...whatever flavour it is....the rest isn't really that important

I reside in the USA - capitalism DOES NOT WORK FOR BLACKS - (PERIOD) - BLACKS (and I am BLACK) have experience what you are blithely "talking' about since we were brought to the USA as slaves in 1619 and this is 2023 and THINGS have not gotten any better for BLACKS - WHAT IS YOUR POINT? Communism never exists (period) - It is used by uneducated Caucasians as the 'bogey man' to keep minorities satisfied with the STATUS QUO! CAPITALISM works fine if you are white - it DOESN'T work if you are not WHITE! Let me repeat myself - What is your point?
            ·
          • Linda CBLACK LIVES MATTER
I agree things for blacks in America in many cases are dreadful and I feel very sad for what they have experienced. Yes slaves were bought over in 1619 and you were all freed by white people fighting and dying for you. There may have also been other reasons for the fighting but this is what most fought for. Many of your people have become millionaires in this capitalistic society. Communism in Russia did not work. I went there and spoke to the every day person. They were glad when it was ousted. Not sure how they feel now though. My sister visited East Germany before the wall came down. She said it was awful. I think people forget sometimes. I visited Estonia who are still feeling the after affects of Communism. I do not understand why you think Communism does not exist. China is a Communist country as is North Korea. Many white people are poor and struggling. Many Mexicans are struggling, Cubans, Africans, Australians, Americans, Middle Eastern peoples. It is not limited to one race. There is always the rich and always the poor and sometimes some in between. I prefer to have the freedoms I have in my country than live where they have been taken away from me.

          • BLACK LIVES MATTERLinda C
Russia, China, and North Korea are not communism countries - just plain dictatorship 'masquerading' as communism countries (PERIOD). You do not get it - but you are white - I am still treated as a slave in the USA. The other minorities that you so generously mention in the USA (Why a minority would emigrate to a country with the lowest federal minimum wage of "so call have democracy" is a mystery to me and they are going to struggle (the USA is the most racist country on the planet)) - come to the USA on their own FREE WILL (Period) - but my ancestors were NEVER given that option.
