Only service dogs could be deemed as acceptable. It really upsets me when I see animals stuck in cars. It's not very humane to be stuck inside a boiling hot tin.
Take my dog to Bunning's Hardware all the time, but never into a food shop. I take her own mat to sit on in the trolley. In fact we take our rescue dogs in to get them into different situations, meet & see other people. It helps us to make a decision on who or who can't have them as a forever pet. We match a person/family to a dog not the other way round.
Your confused Service dogs are guide dogs mobility assisting , medical alerting for the deaf seizures blood pressure diabetes ect . It’s mistakes like that that make others unaware of this by that mistake you did it’s time for people to correct their not being informed enough to remember
I don't think I'm confused at all! Just merely stating what guide dogs are used for in New Zealand which is for the visually impaired eg: people who can't see properly.I have never heard of any other uses in NZ but excuse my ignorance if this is the case.
Exactly

As long as it's people and animal friendly and on a leash! There shouldn't be a problem! I mean a trained dog acts better than some of these brat child kids!
No way!!! I saw a woman one day in Zellers and she had her filthy 'white' dog sitting up where toddlers sit. I went to someone who works there and asked if she saw this. She said nobody's complained before so we don't mind. I said the dog is filthy and kids put their hands and mouths on that handlebar. The employee was too young or inexperienced or whatever and didn't want to say anything to the woman so I did. I told her it was gross having her filthy dog in the spot where kids sit, and its paws on the bar where they put their mouths on, PLUS the sign on the door says No Dogs. She was a little taken aback but did leave the store. We may have our dogs bathed and immunized, leashed, etc., but they are still animals that lick their stuff and I don't want that on the next loaf of bread I touch. Yuck!!
I always use a sanitizing wipe on the bar and handles before I use a cart, and again when I'm done.
Also my hands when I'm done. We know kids are gross when it comes to touching and licking anything and everything. And way too many adults are just as gross when they don't wash their hands after coughing and toileting.
And clean it as well. The seat as well as the purse when I'm done. And my keys as I use my dirty hand to open my car trunk. I also wash my hands when I get home and after I put things away, before preparing food, before eating my food, after I use a toilet. I open bathroom doors with the paper towel I dried my hand with. I could go on. You want to pile on.... I can pile on.
I am tired of seeing people bring their dogs to the stores. They should be left at home. I am extremely allergic to dogs and I cannot shop anywhere anymore without running into at least one dog.
Extremely allergic people get atacts when near people with dogs cats birds but you seem to go out how is that ? Somethings the dog is in the car waiting but their hair their dander is on their people your near in a store
For your information I do not get close to people while I am shopping. I believe in the keep your distance thing which is why I never got COVID. But people bringing their dogs to the stores and the restaurants gets their hair all over everything in the store.Dogs are not meant to go everywhere with you. It sounds like you think I should be the one to stay at home and have no life.

None, nowhere, not even service ones, do those with animals ever think that some people may be ALLERGIC or for some reason AFFRAID of certain animals, and it's GROSS in food stores/places

4pts Long as dog is on lead and under control I have no issues with them being anywhere. I used to have a dag who was part of the family , went every where. There are tracks/walks that dogs not allowed hence I just didn't go there. Would like to see more leniency with dogs on public transport in NZ also. Funny story, many years ago had a 'corner store' and the home cat followed to the store most days. Health inspector arrived to do his annual check. Saw cat [sleeping on 'his chair'] asked "do have you got a mouse problem" reply "no". His response was "under the law you can't have a cat if no mouse issue, if you have mice you must do rodent control, however I can never find any problems here so we'll say the cat is preventative measures" :)

Animals in public should be on leash or cage away from food ... well in the shops anyway ... not fair on them to see all they can devour and then get told off for doing what seems natural to them. Be kind to them and leave them home if there's not an animal welcome spot with bowl of water where you tie them up!!
Service animals, of course are the exception , but I can't imagine needing an Emotional Support Beast in that setting. If you do need that comfort, I suggest a teddy bear.
No,not in a supermarket. We have many shops ,mostly cafes that welcome pet owners to eat outdoors, even provide them with their own water and space for a mat for your pet. But never should be allowed near food storage or preparation takes place.
Up here in rural upostate PA near Hershey we have farms and ranches galore and animals are welcome in any business. Some animals are better behaved than many human beings!
Assistance dogs are of course an exception in most places. (Although, what about the other assistance animals as well?)
The problem, as usual, is not really the dogs. It's those lazy owners who wouldn't bother cleaning up after their dog, can't control their dog, etc.
BUT, if you allow dogs, then you would have to also allow other pets as long as they are suitably behaved and restrained.
No it’s dogs not public trained that are not assistant dogs can cause a assistant dog to be washed up .. fro. A distract attack frightened a assistant dog and one poss their handler is at risk of injury as well as most importantly the dog being injured or ruined n no longer able to assist the handler n has to be retired washed up from the stress
That has nothing to do with dogs being allowed or not in supermarkets. It could happen anywhere in public, but it's still the owner's fault for not training the dog properly.
People who take there dogs to public places like this generally have a good reason, ie service dogs. If someone feels more comfortable out in public with their animal, let them.
It's not like everyone brings their dogs and cats to the grocery store with them, only a very few have a small dog in a buggy big deal! As long as it doesn't become a zoo at the supermarket no one cares
Service Dogs of any type should be allowed in any supermarket or other shop. They are either being trained or are assisting for a disabled person. Many disabilities are not obvious to other people. They normally have a special coat, harness, collar or leash. Some of their "coats" are labelled. If the dog starts barking assistance is needed
