We found an Aunts diary after she passed, it has been one of the best reads, so much so we considered having it published. The insights into the early 20th century were entertaining and fascinating. We gave it to a museum

Normally as an adult I never would, but as a child I found my mother's diary and read a little bit about when she found out she was pregnant with me! I don't know if she still has it, I know all her secrets anyways by now . She also used to go through mine as a teen and I felt so violated

No, I may not like what I saw. Read an old one of my own and it shocked me that I was that depressed at that time.

Never met anyone who actually kept a diary..so I've never faced the temptation. I'd like to think I wouldn't peek...but I am reminded that the definition of ethical behavior is what you do or won't do if nobody's watching.

Wouldn't even enter my mind to be that nosy, it's personal and none of my business what a person writes.

I have never even known anyone who has kept an actual personal diary (as opposed to a simple appointment diary). I've certainly got better things to do then bother with one.

If you did then YOU are a Dishonest, Deceitful nosy-parker and should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. How would YOU like it if you kept a Diary and someone read it without YOUR permission? You would, rightly be very annoyed. Of coirse it is only dishonest, deceitful, nasty, vicious-tongued people who do this for you can be absolutely certain that anyone who did this could not resist the temptation to gossip. If you want to know something about others then ask them, if you suspect you were adopted or born out of wedlock then ASK the people involved don't go prying and sneaking behind their backs. I have never kept a Diary but if I had and I had found out someone, including my parents, had been prying into my Private thoughts and expression I would never speak to them again.

I was adopted but never told so by my parents although I had worked it out by using maths and the fact of 2 sisters, I was blond with olive skin and my sister with dark hair and fairest of skin. Dad kept a farm diary in which he recorded the days farm work like scuffled Swedes, crutched x number of sheep etc but I wanted to see what was in it for the day I arrived in their household. No hint of excitement …..”Went to Balclutha and colllected J.M.” Doesn’t portray the most wonderful loving and patient Dad that he was. Forever grateful for the upbringing Mum and Dad afforded me. Incidentally the ‘JM’ was changed to ‘MJ’ so I am one of those who are called by my second name which has caused some ‘moments’ that are another story.

I found the notebooks/diary my mom had when she was battling cancer. I didn't find them until she had passed away and we were cleaning out her room at my grandma's house. I slowly read through them, mostly Bible studies and prayers, but it was helpful to read her lucid thoughts since the last week or so the pain meds were so strong she was hallucinating.

My daughter left hers behind when she moved out. When I emptied her closet I came across it and immediately put it away when I realized what it was. Not my business

Having a diary is like having a digital footprint leave it around and someone will eventually read it. So if you care about privacy get a job in a jelly factory.

I have had family members do this while I traveled. No respect anymore, they thought it was funny, when jotting down simple facts in my life. Sad.

Depends what child and I would give it back if I found it cleaning in their rooms. I wouldn't wanna invade their privacy and if it was that important my kids know that they cam talk to me about anything. I love my kids and they matter to me.

I would NOT want it done to me, If I am close enough to the person to know they have a Diary, they would then share when they are ready. Vice Versa too !!!!

4pts would never normally but when my mother crossed the bridge, we found her diary and were saddened about some of the things she said in it. we knew she was in pain but didn't realise how much and that the pain killers were not doing their job-wish she had told us
