Clinical trial of new drugs

I have put my name down to trial a stage III double-blind study of a new drug. It means that it has been tested twice previously on humans. It is for people who have artery disease.
Would you be willing to test a new drug? I guess if somebody had a disease such as cancer you would be clutching at straws and try anything that gave a glimmer of hope. The side effect is weight loss, which I could do with a bit of. So I guess I would soon figure out if I were on the placebo or not.
This is a 10-year study and I will be monitored closely during that time. I have had bloods and urine testing, an ECG and my eyes tested. I knew I had an eye problem, a freckle on my pupil, diagnosed 15 years ago with no ongoing follow up. I have been referred to an ophthalmologist to have this monitored.
