The speed of light
Walter W20-Nov-21
Since, the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum. If homo sapiens could close too moving that fast in real time, then would homo sapiens be moving faster then time? Could a homo sapiens outrun time and never aged?

It would be hard on our bodies to quickly go into light speed travel. Have you ever instantly pressed fully down on the accelerator in your car? You know how it pushes you back? Yup that's why. Except its way worse at greater speeds. We would have to gradually increase and decrease acceleration which would take thousands of years to accommodate our bodies. The only other way would be... Bending space time. This may be achieved via Einstein-Rosen Bridge or an Alcubierre model. Apparently an Alcubierre model may be possible if we can compress substantial amounts of energy (the total energy of Jupiter would be sufficient) but we don't have the physics to make that work yet and this may involve things like exotic matter (like neutron star physics for example) but perhaps... AI and quantum computing is the answer for these major scientific breakthroughs. Processing power is rapidly advancing as they find ways to fit more transistors on a chip, coinciding with more calculations per second. AI may succeed us in the near future and Ray Kurzweil may be right about his singularity. This may also... Help solve many world problems. Technology will rapidly advance which may enable us to live in uninhabitable places. Concepts such as worldwide temperature regulation or weather control maybe feasible which would enable us to inhabit Earths nearest twin/Sister planet Venus. But as for... Time. These thing will take time. You could try move away from sources of gravity (time moves faster when subject to more gravity) so you could add a few milliseconds to your life so you can see these things happen. But as for... FTL travel you will still age as time is relative. We are biological and biological mechanisms function over time. As for never aging... That is the age old question! And you will make a lot of money if you solve it. Some say it's telomeres and others say it's repairing mitochondrial DNA damage. Some people who are super agers have said..... And it goes on and on... Much like time...

It makes my head hurt just thinking about it. However, if a plane travelling at Mac1 or Mac2 makes a big bang just imagine the noise every time a person broke the sound barrier. Horrendous.

We can in the movies... If we can put man on the moon and put a satellite out into orbit isn't it only a matter of time before it maybe possible? If we some how get alien technology and the government uses said technology. Yes I am quite positive not in my life time too but then we never really are sure about any thing. Once we lived with only a horse and cart for transport. Technology is always advancing and changing the world and changing the world as we know it past, present and future.

Just because you can slow time doesn't mean you are traveling in Time. Just standing in a high-rise building means you age slower than someone on the ground and the higher you are the slower you are aging.

Well for Interstellar Space Travel the time taken to reach the other end would be the same for people on earth but shorter for those in the space craft. So anyone on the space craft would be outside Our Time but within their own Time stream and age at a slower rate than those back on earth. I can not really see that they would be moving faster than time just slower than the time as it passes on the place that they left behind.

Time is a man made construct that we use as a measurement but if we were able to travel at the speed of light time would slow down and I think so would the ageing process. So that would be like time travel :)

According to Physics any object travelling speeds near the speed of light time-travels to the past. However, I think it would be much easier to send messages to the past than sending actual physical objects back in time, whether human or non-human (eg. Robots). Don't know about it being impossible however :-)

kristian s, the speed of light means the actual speed that light travels at, just like your car goes, say 65 miles per hour on the highway (although yours might go 100 km/h, depending on your location!), but in the case of light, it travels at 186,282 miles per second! (I think the other way it's said is about 300 million meters per second, but don't quote me on that!) But what I find interesting is that it has this specific speed limit; it's always 186,282 miles per second. It never goes faster than that, and in fact, they say nothing at all goes faster than that. Nothing in the universe travels as fast as light does, as far as we know. But light does travel slower than that sometimes, because as it moves through objects, it slows down. So although they say the speed of light is a constant, that's only when it's traveling in a perfect vacuum, and then it's always 186,282 MPS.

Also, it means we are not leaving the solar system. In addition, we (homo sapiens) are dooming ourselves to extinction - by screwing up the ONE planet we can live on (man made environment issues).

Probably not. Too much going on inertia and mass wise, I suspect.
