Don’t be a tough guy. You don’t know who’s crazy. Many people are stressed now a days and easily triggered. Be patient with people.

Lock your doors first. Drivers are so impatient these days Hate when you have a certain speed limit & drivers behind want to sit on your bumper & push you along.

Having watched my late partner get booked a few times because he responded to the honks/toots of vehicles behind him, now I drive carefully and sit quietly and don't care what is happening around me until I can see a green light allowing me to turn/proceed. No-one should be intimidated by others to do the wrong thing.

I think if everyone took there sweet time it would be a lot safer on the roads.

I don’t drive but a few times when my husband was driving there have been drivers that have been very aggressive. It is scary and once the police had to be called.

Majority of road rage incidents are instigated by ultra-aggressive drivers. They take it as a personal affront if you drive too slowly,take too long to turn or merge or generally get in their way. I have seen first hand a driver verbally abuse another road user,then follow them,tailgate the other driver and basically terrorise them. It's absolutely petrifying and completely unnecessary. These people ( that do this) have to understand that a vehicle is like a weapon when your angry. It scares me to think my youngest son will be Sharing the road with these drivers soon. Our laws are not severe enough. Immediate loss of licence first offence and any damage or loss of life should be treated as premeditated. And anger management courses should be mandatory.

i would say at least 90 percent of drivers that have done something to annoy another driver does not even know they have done it. toot, give the one finger way and get on your way unless of course there has been a collision of sorts.

I always say "drive safe" as anyone leaves my place. Some say "we always do", to those people I explain, it's not you I'm worried about. It's the other idiots on the road!! There is absolutely no need for road rage, it should not be tolerated at all. Anyone caught, or any person with video of it occurring, should be able to take it to a police station for verification. Once verified, that person should loose their licence immediately. There is no explanation for it.

P Plate drivers and tradies are the most impatient but when it comes to roundabouts they have no idea. I was never able to understand why they had to introduce a new law, Road Rage. Isn't it just common assault?

Don't the politicians play into the hands of the Road Ragers? How often have major road works, costing quite literally many 10s of millions, been started which cause an incredible amount of inconvenience to with resident's lives, sometimes for a very long time. When Transport Ministers, Premiers etc. are challenged as to whether or not those changes are actually needed their almost inevitable response is: Well, it will cut the commute time into the city by 2.25 minutes. Does it really matter, surely people are not in such a hurry that they need to save that tiny amount of time? We have Road Rules and Speed Limits for very good reasons. To make it safer for vehicle drivers and pedestrians. In our area we have a Freeway with variable speed limits between 90 and 110 KPH. The biggest bugbear for drivers is that so often we encounter signs stating Road Works in Progress, 25kph Ahead, sometimes 3 to 4 kilometres ahead. What do we find? There are No Roadworks in progress or what work is being done is not actually on the Freeway but in one of those Emergency Beds and not invloving the flow of traffic at all, or a Speed Limit Reduction down to 50 or 60 for no apparent reason whatsoever.Edited 27-Feb-24 16:16pm

I am grateful to God that when my husband did not see a car he nearly ran into on Sunday, the other driver moved aside and did not show any road rage. My husband felt very guilty though.

I always give a thank you to other drivers - I even acknowledge with a friendly wave when they cut me off or do something stupid - makes them do a double take trying to figure it out.

I totally agree. Traffic lights are a great leveller so let them speed ahead of you and then smile and wave when you pull up next to them at the next set of lights

You are absolutely correct! At home we talk about all the crazy drivers out there. One time I timed how long a traffic red light was on and it came to 45 seconds (not minutes, but I understand what you mean). While you're waiting it may seem like a long time but as an adult it's such a short time it can't be measured. There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes to an hour (3,600 sec), 24 hours in a day (see where I'm going with this?) (86,400 sec), 7 days in a week (604,800 sec), 4 weeks in a month (2,419,200 se), 12 months in a year (29,030,400 sec), and 50 years of driving (14,515,200,000 sec) give or take some depending how long you drive. Now we divide 45/ 14,515,200,000 (formula for percent) and we get well, you can't measure it. So, what's there to get upset about the time you spend waiting as a percentage of your life?

Unfortunately there are so many impatient people these days (NOT JUST ON THE ROADS) In shops - everywhere. I call them spoilt bratts that have to have everything "now". We just seem to live in a ME ME WORLD. I think a lot of it is very little grattitude. Thankfully not everyone is like it - and don't start saying it is all the young ones. THAT IS COMPLETE RUBBISH. A lot of people leave things to the last minute - then come across a delay - and out comes the SPOILT BRAT. THESE ROAD WORKERS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB - SHOW GRATITUDE. Or if it is an accident - be "thankful" it isn't you.

It's never a good idea to take chances on the road. Everyone needs to be patient and continually keeping safety in mind.

I leave home earlier these days so I'm not stuck in traffic in the mornings but have to deal with delays, traffic congestion along with rude drivers but I tend to listen to my favorite radio stations and ignore them and try to keep calm as I know there is no point in losing it

I agree but there a lot of people on the road who have no idea what they are doing and getting distracted by their phones that cause people to get annoyed at their erratic driving. And some people are just hotheads!

So many drivers on the road with no patience now. My motto is "Better late then dead!" I don't speed and I will not take any risks...it is not worth it.

I really can't explain this either. People seem to have gone insane. Every day on the news there seems to be a new road rage incident that has been caught on camera and which is being followed up by the police. When I'm in the car with my husband and someone annoys him, I tell him to take a deep breath and let it go. It's really not worth the risk of potentially having this person go nuts and maybe ram us off the road or kill us, especially as we don't know if their temperament is affected by drugs or something. I also can't help noticing that if you're driving a smaller vehicle, anyone who is in a big powerful 'muscle' car or huge SUV seems to think that you're fair game for being bullied. almost like a 'get-that-gutless-heap-out-of-my-way' attitude.

Too many crazy drivers out there who never should have a license. These drivers are in their own world and totally unaware of anyone or anything outside their car. What about these idiots who suddenyl reverse up if they have missed their turn off? I always stop for pedestrians and make eye contact with them so they know I am giving them right of way. And then there are those idiot pedestrians who have their ears plugged with music, looking at their phone and don't even turn their head before they cross...theyh are just asking to be hit.

I agree with what you say. I’ve been driving now for more than 50 years and I’ve driven heavy goods trucks in the UK. I found most drivers in the UK are very patient but it’s totally different in NZ

Road rage is on the rise. In my experience it is better to ignore anyone who may be rude to you as you don't who they are and what they can do to you. In this day and age your life and family are better off to just let the person or persons tail gating you or the person who has cut in front of you to just let them go, as you don't know what they can do down the road. Try to be the bigger person I suppose.

We hate driving in traffic these days and we avoid it as much as possible. We are retired and we always leave early so we know we will get to where we are going on time so we never need to rush. We always pull over if a truck is coming as yes they are working and they are in a hurry and it's better for them to stay on the tar and not throw rocks up every where. We have had 2 broken windscreens and my Dad had a tyre shredded into 2. The roads here are disgusting and disgraceful, we pay so much for road improvements it is criminal the amount they ask because the authorities have done nothing for years out here. The New England Highway is a national goat track, there's more patches than original road. When will we see some thing for the money we pay every year? No wonder why people get peeved off, it's alright if you live in a city. I'd love the politicians to drive on our roads for a year instead of their fancy road going into Canberra. Up here if the light is green from a couple of hundred feet way I slow down and look for cars that will run a red light at night with no lights on. I've seen far too many cases where people simply do not turn on headlights or indicate what they plan to do and Red means you drive at Warp 10 as you are less likely to be hit by something in the intersection because you are only in it for such a short time, they even do this in front of the Police and it's so common most times the Police simply do not bother as it's too much paperwork for them to fill out. However the ones I particularly like is those who can not merge on the highway they crawl along at 60 KPH or slower in a 100 KPH zone and them just barge their way onto the highway going at least 40 KPH slower than what they are cutting off and they do not indicate what they are doing either so they wonder why they get cleaned up and left in a crumpled wreck on the side of the road. Last week I had one guy in a Pathetic Coloured Humby just push their way in front of me going at a snail's pace in the right hand lane where you are not supposed to be doing anything under the actual speed limit and then 35 K down the road I passed him going across the Gateway Bridge where they were speeding but got cut off by a truck when they insisted in driving in the trucker's Blind Spot. I was just sorry they didn't eat concrete and come to a complete stop with a write off for a excuse for a car. What I have noticed is most times people behave like that I pass them doing the speed limit and get there before them with no inconvenience at all.

WE are living in an angry world - so sad - I too have people tail-gate me and sometimes go over double lines to pass even though I'm keeping to the speed limit.

I have never encountered road rage luckily, I would just ignore them and continue on my way as they are not worth the effort.

I sometimes have people tail gate me even though I am going at the correct speed allocated for the area. I choose to ignore them and not let it bother me because they have the issue. They may be irritated by something else that has happened to them.

Road rage will not solve anything except cause harm why not just be patient..you will get where you need to be without all this rage and some drivers will not change their bad habits so why risk getting hurt.Patience...patience...patience.

I agree the rudeness and impatience on the roads is increasing, the thing that gets me though if they are in a hurry why bother stopping the car to have a go at another driver, that takes time and possibly a few bruises, go figure.

I'm wondering whether the road rages are full of "drugs" or "alcohol" and that's maybe why they are acting that way. Just another possibility?

Take photos of the culprits and the vehicle and get the licence plate number of the car as well, as the make and model of the car including the colour of the car and any other odd feature like wording on the side of the car. Gather all the information and take it straight to the nearest police station and the police will get onto it. That will sort the problem out and the culprits will get caught and they won't bother anyone again.

Just the consequence of exhibiting road rage gives me pause....why bother! It causes further delays to argue, fight, flip the bird, pull a weapon, use such weapon, ram vehicles, yell, speed away, worry etc .....and raises blood pressure unnecessarily. How will my spirit remain calmly while cruising! If I'm late, I don't want to become "the Late" 😁 Do check out the movie "Unhinged", 2020 with Russell Crowe (if you have the time/inclined). The best drivers will always assess the road ahead and you can usually tell who is going to be the idiot. I feel the best and safe when I am courteous and let the people through but hell it takes a lot of patience. Usually the people who are in a hurry get stopped by the lights and when I see that I just quietly go Ha!Ha!

One time when the traffic lights turned green and I stayed stopped, the idiot behind me honked his horn ... despite the fact that there was an ambulance with its lights and siren going obviously about to go through the intersection from the other direction and going through where we were about to turn. 🙄

Impatience is just another form of greed in a way that yhe person believes yhey should get to do whatever they want when they want regardless of the outcome for others. Too many cars on the roads with too many a- holes behind the wheel thinking they are more important than everyone else. It's just not worth the effort to confront them as they are never wrong. I'm a courteous driver/ rider so road rage never happens to me.

It's the driver's obligation to drive safely and protect all passengers. At 76 I have been subjected to road rage but the obligation still remains important.

Absolutely Not worth the Risk! People carry guns in their cars now and, if you do the wrong thing to the wrong person, you're dead! You don't even have to do Anything! You can be at home sleeping, watching TV, or even playing with a pet or kiddos in your own yard and get shot! I'm retired and I only go out when necessary, like to buy food or fuel, or go to a Doctor's appointment, but nothing else. Take road rage drivers, throw them in a rubber room and hose them down with cold water.

I get a little upset when I get beeped at or someone else is taking too long and so I see both sides but it shouldn't escalate to anger because like you said it might cause an accident .

And when his bull escapes and I'm heading down the road it's like a western showdown, with 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly' theme song in my head when I see Mr Boll Locks (that's what I call him) 🤣. No, if you can't see you do not drive your tons of steel into traffic of any kind. There could be someone on a bicycle, someone pushing a stroller, a child who wiggled out of the guardian's grasp and is a few steps behind, a small car, an animal... The latest thing I've read is about a man and a woman who got angry at another driver, the passenger got out of the 'raging' car, walked up to the other vehicle and shot dead the little girl in the back seat. That makes no sense and I wonder if the shooter had a lot of other stuff going on in their life and the driving of the other vehicle was just enough to put them over their limit??? People like this need to reach out for help and not go for the gun and kill an innocent child. Another shooting that proves the U.S. needs to fix itself and its gun laws.
