Give Us Your Money ... Good Dog!!!
APB20-Aug-24
One day chocolate was suddenly poisonous to dogs (that would have been a surprise to my first three dogs who ate it and lived until at least 13 year of age)...best buy them dog treats at $10 a packet... AND you should not give them sticks or bits of wood they may splinter and be swallowed (but you can buy a stick shaped dog toy...made of wood...in the supermarket...for only $19!!)...oh and bones...cooked or uncooked...can splinter and be swallowed too now...or damage their teeth... (best to buy bone shaped things that cost $9 plus instead)...how did dogs survive in the wild?...it's a mystery....lucky we have big profitable companies helping us now....eh?

        • Farm dogs get sheep ribs with not much meat and lots of bone. They crunch up the bone. Grommie is only mildly interested in bones...

          • I hope they kill the sheep first..

        • I wouldn't waste my time buying most of the shit in supermarkets most of it is immigration you are feeding the to your dogs and meanwhile you are welcoming immigrants to come over here and steal your homes and kids

          • Love the sarcasm I know what you mean, my dog has most of the forbidden foods, Staffy aged 13 and healthy, full of life. No tinned food, chicken legs, necks, frames, mince, all fresh. Price of all the pretend dog food has gone up in price every week since all of the advertising of fake food.( Don't do this and don't do that) A few things a no no like onions, she is lactose intolerant so no milk or ice cream unfortunately. I learned that the hard way.Her biscuits are out 24/7. Most of us like the snacks. If we follow out instincts more than all the ads and let common sense lead is more help

                • lol Well said. My dogs lived a very long life on all the forbidens you mentioned.

                  • We had problems with our dog getting cooked bones jammed in her teeth and couldn't open her mouth. The Easter egg chocolate is the worst as it has very strong ingredients to keep it for a lot longer. Grapes are also poisonous to dogs
                    ·
                    • I know of the odd person that gives their dog chocolate but as it is poisonous to them, I wouldn't recommend it. They don't eat cooked bones in the wild so it makes sense not to give them those either.

                      • So glad I have cats. The only thing toxic to cats is the flower Lilium. It's a hasty death but it is from something that is expensive for humans to enjoy.

                        • I don’t even go to the pet section, ever...my dog knows what is good for him what’s not...he doesn’t listen to any ad or advice...he loves raw chicken necks, any mince, liver...I tried to make him a vegetarian but he didn’t get it so I gave up...every dog is different not just outside inside as well...like humans...some vets are really strange, avoid them, most commercial pet food/ treats//toys are poisonous anyway...he doesn’t like chocolate so I don’t press him to eat it...he is 14, 3 years ago a vet surgeon wanted to amputate one of his legs...now he runs so fast as a cannon ball...and so on and on...

                        • my dog ate everything and if it wasn't good for him it came out as a deposit on the back lawn, he lived till 19 and it was a snake bite that got him at the end, not chocolate, he would go on egg hunts every easter, pretty sure he found more than the kids

                          • So who's the big mugs! You guessed it, we silly humans. I've never been caught up in the plastic toy games for dogs. Mind if you don't give them something to play with they will find there own toys. I remember tennis balls were always at risk in our house not to mention Mum and Dad's slippers and yes of course we gave them bones to chew on. I even remember rescuing said bones back off my youngest brother as our dog was too good mannered to rip it back from him.

                            • In the wild am guessing they ate everything they hunted bones and all! Guess they were safe from chocolates as they don't grow in the wild!!

                              • Yes it's a big business - and don't forget the flea shampoos and heartworm tablets and doggies day care centres and vet bills that are more expensive than human services.

And the possums, oh I’m supposed to give them zucchini and green leaves!! They’ve been fine on bird seed and fresh fruit, and are having babies! Over it.

                                    • Dogs are omnivorous. So, they will chew at whatever takes their fancy. Humans are supposedly intelligent and should try to look after their pets' health. Dogs will try to please their human. Humans should be thoughtful about the dog's diet. As an aside, dogs rarely take notice of ads even food ads.

                                      • Dogs are carnivores not omnivores. Of course even wolves and foxes eat berries and grains in the wild to supplement their diet but they are still carnivores like our domestic ones. They are not omnivores.

                                            • It depends on the type of chocolate (milk vs dark) and how much they ate in relation to their size. My dog ate nearly a whole Lindt easter bunny. It was milk chocolate but after a phone consult with a vet I rushed her there. She weighs just under 12kg. By the time we arrived she was shaking and very unsteady on her feet. Pretty sure wild dogs never ate chocolate.

                                                    • I agree, it's getting ridiculous now. Of course, I can understand cooked bones would be bad for a dog, as they can be brittle and splinter. However, when it comes to raw ones, what is wrong with that? What do these so-called experts think wolves (the dog's ancestors) eat? Do they think wolves go to the supermarket and buy tins of Chum or Pedigree, together with Lucky Dog and Schmackos? I was also very sceptical about claims that mushrooms and stone fruit are also bad for dogs. I had a Blue Heeler that used to raid the apricot tree, crack open and eat walnuts and the eat the mushrooms that came up on the lawn, and she reached a ripe old age of 18. I think you may have hit the nail on the head. It is all about ensuring that big companies scab more money out of us by causing fearmongering.

My brothers dog had a heart attack. He also had eaten chocolate other times and not gotten sick. He ate a whole bar of chocolate. But if they were to do that, then maybe go for a big Run, it could be a health risk. Bigger dogs are more at risk I think.

Then the fool animals started hanging around the camps, became domesticated, and ended up attaching themselves to some human who did all the hunting and gathering for them. Now, if the human holds out on some of them, they destroy stuff or even worse, bite someone. Big doctor bills. Pay me now or pay me later.......you still pay. Blame it on the Neanderthals.

The lists of things they shouldn't eat are very general and don't necessarily apply to every dog but instead of listing individual breeds, we are just presented with this general list. I've had large dogs that got into chocolate and didn't get sick, and I let my mini pin have a few peanut M & M's and he lived to be 18, but I would never have given him chocolate daily or large amounts. Avocados is on the no no list, but that is also breed specific and every dog I ever had loved avocados and thrived. (It's mostly the pit that is bad for them.) We had one dog that did get fat eating the avocados that fell on the ground though.
                                                                    ·

You have just been LUCKY that no splintered bone or stick got stuck in their intestines. Until you have been through a pet having an intestinal blockage and having to pay thousands to operate on them, then these stupid comments wouldn't be made. If it did happen, you would probably cry poor and say put my pet down instead. As for the all the treats & toys you are being 'marketed', simple, DON'T buy them. Most are harmful too in their own way. Spend some quality time with your dogs and they won't need them.

Dinner was a bit of a mixture. Sometimes our scraps mixed with dry dog food, sometimes offal like liver( lamb's fry) or kidney as it was cheap and readily available. There wasn't the plethora of food for animals back then. Occasionally they even had fish( tuna or sardines wirh dry food). Ours, all breeds small and large lived a long, active and healthy life.

Our dogs don't drive themselves to the supermarket and pick out what they like, we do. I still buy our dogs a few treats but realised it was cheaper if we gave them Scotch finger biscuits, which they love. Old boy (profile pic.) knows when we are about to have a cuppa and even knows the biscuit container. He squeaks with delight and anticipation. The vets says do your dogs want a treat and I have to say No that's not food or a treat for them. Spoiled hell Yes, loved absolutely. Must be doing some thing right old one is almost 14.

Especially in an election year! All you hear today is hiw great Kamala is and what wonders she will do for America if we elect her! But she has been vice president for over 3 1/2 years, and the country has gone to hell! Putting her in charge will just continue the Joe Biden legacy for another 4 years and completely destroy America. Because we know neither Joe or Kamala are truly running the country! It is the Globalists who make all of the decisions and just tell them what to say! Elect Trump who isn’t paid by them or controlled by them! Don’t believe the lies!

How can people live without them, I do. anyway to your question. There was time when people did give their dogs sticks, bones and more. Years ago some dogs did get injured using these items but if someone's dog not in your neighborhood had an issue you would not hear about it. Thee days if someone's dog, in another part of the world, died from these items you are likely to hear about it through social media.

I have had dogs eat both and been OK but seen the other side of that. Sticks, well my daughters dog had a piece of stick go up through the roof of her dogs mouth entailing a vet visit and an op to remove it. Bones do wear down teeth and break them - my dog has had that happen 3 times now. My dog ate a cooked bone my son gave him and it entailed 2 vet visits to remove it. Our dogs survive many years longer than the dogs in the wild all due to the care we take of them but it can be expensive. I guess common sense is the best option.

She was perfectly fine though, she'd eaten alot of various things like dog deterrent pellets off mum's camellia bushes also.. Our other border collie ate a total of 5 whole rose bushes and and a hibiscus bush ,, roots and all over some period of time .. And yes they were very well fed otherwise ! Just incredibly naughty.
