Can I suggest, rather than paying all this money for a BKK dentist, you learn to be responsible for your own oral hygiene? i.e. why don't you brush your teeth! And dentistry is not cosmetic if you're getting fillings btw - that's called 'repair work'!

I don't call dental work cosmetic surgery. My teeth are very necessary for my health. My sister had work done in India but it was not successful.

A good friend who happens to be a Nurse saw Dr Sunil as well, she had 2 implants and 1 filling done, that was 2 years ago now and she hasn't had any issues or problems at all. Her Australian Dentist was shocked at how good the procedure was.

That sounds a bit expensive to me. My husband has 4 implants and he also needed work done on his gums as he had been missing his teeth for many years. All the work was done quite quickly and it cost him $10000. My daughter has also had one implant which didn't cost much more than a crown. Neither has had any problems but our neighbour had an implant which made her lips and gums go numb so had it removed and she didn't have to travel to Thailand for that. We have a friend who did get implants in Phuket and while they are pretty good they aren't as good as my husbands and don't look as natural. At the end of the day you usually get what you pay for. You can shop around in Australia and get quotes you know. My daughter did live in Tamworth so had to travel to Sydney as no-one in Tamworth does implants, or didn't back then.

I would never spend thousands on my appearance as I’d still be the same person toothless or not! Sure it’ll boost your confidence etc, but I’m happy within regardless of whether I have enhancements/cosmetic surgery or not

Too many stories of bad experiences for me to even contemplate that. As for implants such as breast etc. that is a huge NO from me. I will age gracefully as I can.

Thailand is a Mecca for it. They have the best doctors and facilities available. Would never go to India for anything. Do your research and ask lots of questions. I know many people who have had procedures in Phuket and very happy with their results.

The Indian dental work we usually hear about tell us very sad stories. Brave you to say that both you and your husband are happy with the result! I think some of our teeth repair surgery in Australia also fails to achieve what was hoped for! So for some, better the devil you know!

I personally would never do it. What will you do if something goes wrong? The procedure fails completely? You get an infection? No thanks. I would wait at home and get my repairs there. It took a long time to get into the state where you need surgery for repairs I think you could wait a little longer for repairs.

No chance financially. One thing that may be a concern would be the nature of the medications or drugs they use elsewhere. Scams are less well-regulated in such places.

I'd consider consider going to Thailand for dental work but nothing else. I wouldn't pay for a package deal as I would stay with relatives.

I just went through our free Medicare system, free Dental, had all teeth removed and free false teeth. No issues at all.

Cosmetic procedures no way. But for dental work, maybe. I can understand why people go overseas for dental work as it is way cheaper than here in Australia. A lot of health conditions are directly related to poor dental condition. If the Govt included dental care as a part of Medicare, then there would be a lot less people needing other healthcare and basic dental care could prevent a lot of issues in the first place.

My motto `is love the skin you're in' be proud of who you are and don't change because some one else wants or needs you too. Making you change for some one else is some one else being selfish and inconsiderate to you.

I believe in growing older as nature intended, except for teeth. I think they need to be taken care of. If you can find a good, sympathetic dentist, stay with him, as they are few & far between.

So sorry that you and your husband are having to go through having so much dental work! That must be really rough! The trip to go overseas would likely cost more than the dental work. Anyway, I never go to the dentist. The last time I went, they didn't even clean my teeth and just told me to come back for gum scaling which I just said "no" to. I take very good care of my teeth and use hydroxyapatite toothpaste which is thought to do a better job than Floride at restoring enamel. Everyone I know who goes to the dentist all the time has had to get root canals, crowns, lost teeth, ect. My 84 year old father never goes and has no problems with his teeth and hasn't had any fillings replaced. It may just be good genes; it appears that I got my dad's teeth genes, while my sisters got my mom's!

Not I BUT a friend of my always made if a point to have dental work done and dresses to a fit her, no complaints about either, she even took her invalid mother on these excursions armed with a wheelcl chair .. they both lothed visitin Asia and the food as well.

I have a friend with a similar experience. He needed some dental work done, got quotes and then found he could go to Thailand and have the procedures in a world class hospital, and have a nice holiday, for less than it cost to have the work done in Australia.

You can get ripped off just as easily in Australia. So why go overseas ?

I had a top denture put in many years ago and it didn't cost anything like what is being said in the comments. Obviously things have changed a lot over the years. But I wouldn't go overseas to have it done. For those who choose to go overseas for there procedure, all the best.

I have been quoted $5000 for upper and lower dentures, they also want $370 per tooth removal. I have been waiting for them to fall out with time as has been happening, they say get dentures, then they can fill in the gaps. It is an expensive procedure, no matter where you get it.

I have found that here in ACT nothing is free BUT I had dental work done at 'pensioner' rates and it was NOT expensive...I was able to afford the work and due to being on a govt pension I was able to get top and bottom dentures for $350:00

No,but have friends who went overseas specifically for dental work as the cost here is beyond their means. It amazes me how high the cost is. Dental should be covered if only partially by Medicare and seen as essential health care.

I wouldn't consider traveling somewhere to have a cosmetic procedure, nor would I have one done at home. I'd prefer to spend my money on other things, like traveling for fun instead.

Cosmetic procedures aren't the category above for me, they seem essential. I wouldn't do anything to my body except have a procedure that perhaps can alleviate pain

I have traveled to Colombia for plastic surgery, it was very inexpensive and great medical experience

I personally have not but my cousin and her husband did in Taiwan and they were amazed at the way the premises looked they said it was so clean and very hygienic and it didn’t cost them much either.

I haven't needed to but it is sad that it costs so much to have it done where you live.

Yes, 2 crowns in Thailand - $300. New Zealand is very behind with medical/ dental matters. Also found staff in Thailand kind, caring and compassionate, unlike here in NZ.

I guess it depends on the country and the surgery. Don't have much trust on cosmetic procedures due to so many stories about surgery gone wrong or people dying. Dental work might be ok.

I'm fine with surgery such as teeth, fixing a physical abnormality or due to an accident/injury. I do have a problem with implants, removing a few ribs to look slimmer, etc. Let's get real it's for attention. Be grateful for what you're born with. I'll never understand why people in their 50's like the real housewives of wherever get surgery, their insides are still ageing, you had your youth, age gracefully.

I would not have any cosmetic surgery. I would rather live my body as God designed me. I would think twice about dental implants. The prices you paid seem to be a little high for my liking.

I will never go overseas for any cosmetic purposes, in case something goes wrong with the procedure you have to fly back there and spend more money to fix it. For these kinds of operations I would like to be close to home.
