Is AI killing traditional education?
Llewellyn 167851409-Jul-25
With the exponential boom in all manifestations of AI, almost any question can be answered. Generative AI means we don't need to learn; only to ask, ask, refine and ask again. And the more we keep asking, the better the AI answers become. Does this mean the world no longer needs teachers?

  • Yes! AI has the potential of killing everything if us as humans let it. Just like social media has effected the way/the amount people interact with others in person, saying we don't need personal interaction and contact in our lives is just blind stupidity. ? If we are intelligent enough to invent AI, I question why we as humans need it in the first place. I believe it's another money making tool for the greedy, the scammers and the bored. Ive witnessed in my lifetime the insanely rapid development of computer technology from using a 'commodore 64' as a youngster to now almost everyone carrying a computer around with them in the form of a smartphone, most of it is admirable. I just think we have started to let our own creativity get outta control to the point where what's being created has negative benefits for the majority of human life, and has become a very dangerous weapon for those who want to cause harm and tragedy.

    • AI is crap and a fad, like we need more fake crap!!
      ·
      • Can't use AI without learning how to read or write or use an operating system therefore fundamentals still need to taught. Also, you can't take your phone or a computer into exams so ya still gotta learn the content if you want qualifications that require examinations.
        ·
        • I think AI is a big mistake. WAIT AND SEE. There should be a lot more control on it. Don't say I didn't warn you......
          ·
          • What's killing education is the degenerate wokies who teach b.s. like fake gender studies and "White people bad"...
            ·
            • I think we will always have teachers and with teachers we must learn more
              ·
              • Yes, the other huge problem with AI, Scammers are using it to rip people off, and the use of AI to do this will only get better for the scammers and worse for the everyday person.
                ·
                • And they will continue to do so because it is not controlled.
                  ·
              • We now need teachers to teach kids how to use AI in a meaningful way.
                ·
                • It’s very usual situation and maybe not for the best

                  • Schools need teachers but at the moment that's not what we have here in Australia. I wasn't happy when my daughter had to have a calculator was back in year 7. That was many years ago, and if I'd had a calculator back in the LSD days I'd have been super at math. None of my 9 grandchildren have been taught how to write with the 16 year old not having a signature when he opened a bank account. None of them know the difference between your and you're and where you put the apostrophe changes it from ownership to plural. Teachers are busy with climate change, gender fluidity and indigenous issues. One 10 year old told me white men raped all of the indigenous women and when I asked the 11 year old what gender fluid meant she thought it meant you wear girls clothes one day and boys clothes the next. I had a 6 and 10 year old here on Monday watching the ABC. The cartoons weren't funny and I feel they were violent so I decided to introduce them to Mork and Mindy. When I told the boys it was an old TV show the 10 year old said some of the old TV shows weren't appropriate for today. Honestly, teachers should be teaching them the 3 R's and allowing them to be children without brainwashing, indoctrination and political correctness.

                      ·

                        • I don’t know about the AI in schools killing education but the AI ( absolute idiots) in parliament are killing the country……lol
                          ·
                          • How do we know that people who have written comments here didn’t use AI?!!
                            ·
                            • I think that teachers will always be necessary. I cannot imagine Ai instructors in the classroom, at University and places like school of the air. Parents are usually also a type of teacher for their children.
                              ·
                              • AI is programmed to have one thought and that is what is hidden into the programme eg tik tok
                                ·
                                • From my limited understanding of AI, it certainly is changing how students process and integrate knowledge and information. However, I am not sure if it is making people more astute creative/abstract thinkers as it seems to only use one form of neural pathway learning rather than broadening how people think altogether. Is there any guarantee the information that is acquired from AI is actually accurate and based on facts and intellectual assessments?

                                  • Here is a well kept secret, the teachers are having a break and will come back again once our smart "little monsters" who used to drive the teachers crazy have perfected their grand plan to drive these scraps of metal completly bonckers!!!!

                                      • Yes, it is killing the thought process, Hopefully though, it will help with spelling & grammar if kids and adults ever need to think & remember on their own - hopefully. The kids in the U.S. aren't even learning how to write in cursive or tell time on an analog clock. It's just pathetic. Forget the new math and teach these kids the basics and some common sense!

                                          • Yes unfortunatly. There are good things, but remembering facts c and social soon are taking a big hit. Kids do not or will not think for hemselves, and trouble have stated o arise. Depression and anxiety are just a few.

                                              • AI is a double edged sword. Be very careful. You will always need teachers As my grandfather said if the student Did not learn the teacher did not teach.

Second: Our kids now days cant hold a decent conversation, or do basic arithmetic, spell or read.We need to go back ti the three R'S .

Even before school education People get educated by their surroundings and parents. Education is part of everyday life. You can of course program your Neo robot to educate children too. But then with out playing in the school yard with friends, there must still be a need for schools.

                                                                  ·

Kids have had very poor language skills long before AI hit the streets. AI can't help with social studies. STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are all fine and good but how about listening skills? Develop Creativity? How to get along with others? Financial Literacy? And a whole lot of other things that can't be helped by asking questions without any backup? Who sets up the curriculum? How are 'standards' established? Perhaps you could look into your local schools and actually see what is going on instead of assuming that it's just a baby sitting service (AI certainly can't do that!).
                                                                    ·

                                                                        ·
                                                                        • Definitely, people already showing signs of being unable to think for themselves
                                                                          ·
                                                                          • The rot set in many years ago when children were allowed to take Calculators into class and use them. Basic Artithmetic (adding, subtraction, division and multiplication) went out the door, then computers arrived which ended the need to learn Grammar, to Spell and to Write, as time went on the need to be able to Read is disappearing because at the click of a button the Computer will read it to you. The Autonomous Sector so beloved by Incredibly Stupid Politicians has started destroying jobs, quite literally millions of Jobs. will disappear. Just what all those millions thrown out of Work will do no-one knows. The politicians tell us they will re-train people in IT and other areas BUT what these stupid women and men forget is that not everyone has the mental ability to become IT experts or work in other fields, AI and Autonomy will take over. Autonomous Cars, Buses, Taxis, Trucks. Lorries, Trams, Trains, Ships, Ferries and, it has been suggested, even Aircraft will becom,e the norm. AI is already telling us what to do, to automatically correct spelling and grammar, write letters. The end result will be an increase in Mental Health Problems the like of which the World has never expoerience before. Suicides will be in the Millions. There will be an unprecedented increase in addiction to both Legally Prescribed and Illegal Drugs, Alcoholism will be at levels never dreamt of before, Criminality will explode. Why? Because all those millions thrown out of work as a direct result of all this Automation will become Bored. We NEED to have Work, we may complain about it but it is Essential to our Wellbeing and Health.
                                                                            ·
                                                                            • People put to much faith in AI not me.
                                                                              ·
                                                                              • I have found AI on some sites brilliant and totally effective and on others a bit more patchy and still with a way to go SO I think it will improve where it initially lacks and will probably be very helpful all round. But like at the moment trying to use it for legal explanations on X for some very basic society wide legal facts it is sadly lacking while on wordpress and gofundme it is pitch perfect for enquiries. My Take.

Havard now has a remdial maths course because students can no longer do the math required for the courses they got entry into!! How did they do this if not by cheating with AI? AI may one day serve humanity, but presently it is only serving corporate greed,

Thank God I don't have any children/grandchildren growing up to face this. Unfortunately people are taking up teaching because they get a good pay & plenty of holidays. The days of dedicated teachers are fast disappearing.

Teachers will be as necessary as they are now. HOPEFULLY with AI providing information, humans will be more willing to learn. And humans can be taught in areas where teachers don't exist - whether that be geographical or expertise-wise.

At the high school I work at, teachers have discovered students using AI to answer questions in tests and exams. The policy now is that all electronic devices are not allowed during examination time and that anyone caught doing so will receive an instant fail and have to repeat the subject in the following year. Please youtube "Stream of Consciousness" from The Outer Limits. In this episode, people have neural AI implants that gave them instant access to all human knowledge, but one character, Ryan Unger, has a brain injury that prevents him from using the implant. He resorts to reading books the old-fashioned way, which is now considered a forgotten skill. However, there was a computer virus and all technology was rended useless and the whole human race had to depend on Ryan because AI had made things so easy that when it was gone, they couldn't cope.

Now it is computer skills ,constantly updated information from around the world accessible with little filters. The question for myself is ," do children understand and retain the knowledge that they learn now". And " Is what they ate learning more relevant than what we learnt". I believe that teachers will always be needed as a guide,a sounding board and a gauge to their learning uts just that the way in which they learn will be vastly different from our experience. With my youngest currently a first year Uni student, most of his academic learning has been done via computers as well as leasing with the school and homework. There will always be subjects that are more " hands on",ie sciences, arts, physical education. I have found the sheer volume of work and depth of study has changed, there is more. I also see he has adapted his learning to include his love if literature, he reads books, watches movies ,listens to podcasts. A blend of all has worked for him. It can be a positive, not all kids learn the same way or at the same rate,so I believe there is a great opportunity in this approach. A difficult time for teachers,as the work load must be enormous, constant training to keep up exhausting. There is also the risk of assigned work being completed solely by A.I,and not the student, which is considered to be cheating. A.I should be used as a source of information,a tool to be integrated amongst other forms of learning, not the sole educator. My son loves his classes specifically because of the high level of interaction with his lecturers that his campus provides,it's the teacher that instigates, debates, listens to their points of view, encourages their attempts and offers support. They will always be needed.
