I graduated from Lanier High School for boys in Macon, Ga. This was Sidney Lanier's home. My 8th and 9th grade teacher was Oiuda Poe, a self-proclaimed direct descendant of Sidney. She taught the English language well, and she taught us to listen to the symmetry in the language. Some say they don't care for poetry, but they love their music. Just think about what poetry means to you in your everyday life. Think about what would music be like without poetry.
