Nice quote. I still remember sayings we used at school to remember things like how many days in each month. Learning by " rote" really sticks. What you can't take away? I suppose for me it's the passage of time. The year goes by so fast and there are more years behind me than what will be ahead. That and wrinkles lol.

Alas, time makes fools of us all. You don't lose things overnight but time does have an effect on what you originally thought you had for ever - when you try to remember a poem or a song or your favourite flower's name it occasionally won't comeback to you, sometimes it's forever.

Intelligence (in my case though, it's pretty lacking). But no one can take that away from you, no one can take away all the hours you have spent reading or thinking philosophically.

I think (almost) ANYthing can be taken away from you. sum dont even know it was taken, as they live in a false sense of reality. OK cant take away once your a parent, your a parent for life, but others things I've read people have sed, like faith, memories, strength of character, can be smashed if you are traumatised for long enough & hard enough til ur spririt is so broken there's no coming back from it. I won't go on, bc I find this is triggering a conversation for me, I don't want to have. Your DNA, although physical and samples can be had, is your unique signature that really isn't replicated. On the esoteric level, your soul is also your own no matter how you treat it or view it.

I used to think that only love is real, memories stay...etc. That's all gone once you have dementia, you don't recognise your loved ones, you can't look after yourself, some can't communicate if the pants are soiled. That's before death do us apart. Sadly, it happens more often when technology & science saves / prolongs lives.

There are all the times when education was very rare, only for the rich or things like that. There is still probably Countries where every one doesn't get educated as such. Like someone learns from parents friends and surroundings, not a school or teachers. People loose their education easily by forgetting it, or when they get to a certain old age they loose their education. Some one can't loose their brain or their heart, or else they are no longer them selves they are dead.

Personal pride? Satisfaction with how we have lived our lives, never deliberately hurting anyone on the way? None of this can be taken away because it is all intangible. Wealth, property, faith, our very lives themselves, etc.? They can all be blown away in an instant.

Everything can be taken away. eg Lose your life and everything is taken away. Education is always changing so what we learnt 50 years ago is not all factual today

*Anything* can be taken away. Education can easily be taken away from you by a bad brain injury or Alzheimer's / dementia.
