Travelling with Pets
EnBird2418-Feb-25
This is great for many people now, that some airlines has approved small pets to get to travel with the owners. All I can say wow, wow & wow. Won t be me on those flights with all that racket & god help the smell of any animal that they have & what will they be wearing nappies? Ha ha. Bad enough on any normal flight when you have an innocent young mother with a baby/child she is so constantly picked on even to a point of breastfeeding. Now animals what has the world become, some flights are so long that you want peace. How do you feel?

  • Grommie is the best traveller. He NEVER complains. He always lets me know when he needs a "whistle" stop. I usually need one too........

    • Not for me either

      • It's ridiculous!! Travel with your pets in your own vehicle and let the people who are trying to enjoy their flight alone.
        ·
        • I agree with you EnBird. It's bad enough for mums and baby's, it will be bedlam with dogs
          ·
          • It's up to the airlines to make that decision. But generally NO. There needs to be specific circumstances for animals, esp dirty dogs to be on planes.
            ·
            • I will not go on a flight that allows pets.
              ·
              • Hope they leave a few rows without the pets, cos I don't own a pet and don't want to have one any where near me.

                • Cannot imagine the pandemonium. I have experienced something similar to this. Many years my husband and I took our three young children for a holiday in a station wagon car (we had a mattress in the back so the kids could sleep). We also took our beloved family dog who was generally an extremely well behaved little girl.Well, she was very excited, jumped all over the children inside of the car and barked at every cow, horse, dog, sheep and cats for the entire 600 plus kms we travelled on the first day. We stopped at a small area so she could relieve herself and she decided to roll in something that was extremely smelly. So with that in mind, I have my doubts about even the best behaved pets being total angels when they are travelling albeit a plane or other method.Fortunately for us, the rest of our journey the next day was better, we gave her a bath, she settled down and the rest of us had a much more comfortable holiday. She was also very well behaved all the way home again a few days later. However after that experience we only took her for shorter trips afterwards.

                      ·
                      • What about the people who are allergic to animals. I am supposed to pay to risk my life outside of the danger of crashing. We need no pet and smoke flights
                        ·
                        • I’ll take animals on a flight over kids under three, any day.
                          ·
                          • I have 5 cats who don't like to travel. If sent to a kennel they don't eat and they don't like strangers, so we don't get a sitter. There is no way I would take any of them away with me and instead we allow them a couple of rooms inside the house and someone comes in to feed them. Anything else is far too stressful for them, and if they get stressed they get stress cystitis which can be costly.
                            ·
                            • That is the least stressful way to do it. We do that too. My cat is part of the family and I would never cause him to be stressed out if I can avoid it.
                              ·
                          • I've taken my cat on several flights, as there was no other choice. He goes in the pressurised hold under the flight deck. I hope if they insist on allowing animals in the cabin, all dogs must be muzzled.
                            ·
                            • What about all those who have severe cat/dog allergies?

                              • well Becky , my guess is that the people with allergies would suffer and I do feel sorry for them ,---------- I have seen viedos where people don't want to sit next to aqny one that's not the same color as they are or not allowing a woman with a baby either.

those who are that bigoted or racist make that choice to the detriment of those who must suffer their awful behaviour. Those of us with severe allergies to dogs and those who are allergic to cats, rabbits, feathers etc don't have the choice not to have the allergy and I would be terrified of being seated next to a strange dog.

You should be able to inform the airline when you book tickets that you have health problems and cannot be near animals. If there isn't somewhere that you can tell them , I would email the airline and let them know. You pay a lot of money for flight tickets so they should listen.

                              • When it comes to dogs that are quiet and well-behaved, why not? As for other kinds of animals, such as cats, birds and rabbits, I would be more concerned for their welfare than about anything else. The situation is likely to stress them out and not be good for them. They are better off left at home with caring neighbours or friends.

                                        • More simple too put them in a kennel, otherwise the Plane companies will need too put more money into accomodating them whether it’s a separate room for them but even then I wouldn’t want my dogs in a seperate room amongst over animals unless there’s security and comfort for them all, complicated scenario

Maybe airlines could offer separate pet and petless flights since some people have allergies to animals and would not want to be on that flight. The noise of pets wouldn't bother me anymore than the noise of kids.
                                                                  ·

Larger animals, birds and fish are on larger transport carriers designed for them. Fish are anesthetized for the trip. And, yes, it can be unpleasant with pets in the passenger cabins. The humane Transportation of Animals into, within and exiting Canada is regulated by CFIA under the Health of Animals Act.
                                                                    ·

We do drive with them in the back when we go over to see my parents plus our old boy went around Australia with us. He did poo in the van once as we went out all day to climb Ulluru or walk around Kata Tjuṯa, it was one of those days. Old mat just chucked it away, no problems. He can certainly hold on for awhile, unlike a friend's old dog she wet in the house 3 times and on our new carpet. Lucky we have carpet tiles not glued down so we can get them up wash them, dry. them and then either put a new one down or put the other one back. Washed off cat spew last week. I must say I prefer pets than people, crying babies and obnoxious teenagers any day.

I would hate to be stuck next to a yapping dog and would ask to be moved. Assistance dogs only. I saw one on an inter island flight in Hawaii and it was no trouble. My husband is also allergic to dog hair.

There the local people discovered many kinds of animals in the planes’ cargo holds. The biggest surprise were bonobos. The Newfoundlanders found a way to feed and take care of everyone including the animals during that difficult time.

So don't worry, you won't be running into me or my Buddy on any of these flights. I will say, however, that you would never know he was there and he is guaranteed to be better behaved than any of those kicking, screaming, snot-nosed brats whose parents can't/won't control them on the plane ( or anywhere else ) !
                                                                                                ·

Yes, you'll find out on the way out but if the animal cannot handle the trip and does something really, really bad (use your imagination here (;-) ) what do you do for the trip home? About breast feeding, how old are you? In case you've missed it, breast feeding is not only a "natural" act but for the baby, a necessity. Last I heard, babies don't slurp so there's nothing to hear. Being ashamed of your own body is one thing, but you don't have to be embarrassed for everyone else' body. If nature bothers you, then don't look! Besides, unless you are sitting directly beside the mother, how would you know what was going on in the first place? Maybe this is the "mind your own business" warning.

Guide dogs are trained to sit or lie on the floor in the front of the car on the passenger side. A timely reminder that dogs wearing special jackets should not be patted.

Now this might cause problems foer the Navigation equipment. So then more planes might fall out of the sky. So next we'll have to add more batteries to the Planes. But then there is a good chance they wont be able to lift off with all the extra weight. So better still all the neo's will be chucked in the back were the pets used to go. But then so many people will get borred with out their pet Neo's sitting behind them, and there might not be space for any of the big pets that used to be out the back of the plane. So I think we'll have to make the rules no Pet Neo's allowed to fly. But then what about all the flight attendant Neo's they only cost 60 cent's an hour. This could make the ticket prices a bit cheaper. Or if we make the planes bigger we'll still be able to fit all the'se Neo's on the plane and the same amount of humans not less humans like before, and maybe a bigger battery for charging all the Neo robots. Have I got the answer. No there is a problem still Bigger planes have a higher chance of crashing into each other, So we will still have to keep all pet Neo's off flights unfortunately, and no seats fitted with Neo charges, only mobile charges. But then we'll have to figure out whether these flight attendant Neo's will be better in black clothes rather than purple or pink. So there will have to be a lot more dating sites on the net to work this out. that is not good. So the answer is no more cheaper flights with Neo's flight assistance on board. Strictly no Neo pets on board, strictly no Neo flight assistance on board. But the debate will still go on. Or how about we pay the Neo's $1.20 an hour and then they will wear black clothes no questions asked. And then it could be solved.

Humans are animals. Cats could be more suitable they don't make much noise. What about You take your pet Neo Robot with you, and it could meet all the other Neo's walking around serving food. Unfortunately you might have to pay for a whole nother seat for it. Is it worth it. Maybe a guinea pig would be more suitable.

Even if you can take them by plane,if you go overseas you still have quarantine time in any country you visit. Would only consider if I had to move permanently to another country. Surely they would have to be contained. Could you imagine dogs, cats or other all on the same flight together, seated with their owners. Personally I think it's cruel, the noise alone would be distressing for the animal. And what do you do when they must be toileted?
