Space Exploration
Drusilla 28-May-21
The Great Beyond, Another Galaxy, Attempting to Explore New Life and Planets Far, Far Away, in Distant Galaxies.
Should we, even, use tax dollars and funds for this? While people on earth are suffering, with wars and pandemics going on? Why are we spending money for space exploration when we are still trying to figure out life on this planet? The US has a Space Force. Does this, even, make sense? It just seems rather confusing and improper, for the times we are living in.

No we shouldn’t waste tax payers $$$ doing this..! Yes it’s a curiosity but leave it to the billion/trillionare’s to find out. We should be concentrating on the planet we live on and every living thing on it...

maybe its because when we have finally ruined this planet they need somewhere else to go and live and maybe even ruining that one

When all these countries get into space...in twos or threes...look down on the tiny planet...all work together, with a mixture of many nations... for the common good...they all bond...look at those happy faces on the space station...that is magic!!...that doesn't happen down here on Earth...and it gives me hope...nothing is too much bother...they would risk death for each other....maybe we should all be up there for a while..

As the US (and other countries) recruited Nazi doctors, scientists and engineers fresh from WWII to get them into space in the first place, I hardly think that there is any moral concerns held about using taxpayers funds for space exploration.

Great question Drusilla. I have pondered it all morning and cannot come up with a logical reason to spend so much money on something which may never be beneficial for our Earth or its population.

I always think about Sydney Harbour Bridge which was built far in excess of what was needed at the time. Was it planning ahead for 100 years? Maybe that's what space travel is all about.

Of course we should, its in our nature to explore and learn,as for the poverty on earth, dont think for 1 second that any politician or big business actually care, theyll mouth the words but thats it,pollies only care about 1 thing, power and staying in it,businees care about money, thats it. As for the space force, here in australia they have just announced we are having one as well, why, they all know why,war is coming and if you can destroy a countries sattelites and wipe out communications, your half way to winning

Perfect sense as without the Space Race we would be so much further back with no advancements. Just think No Velcro, No Lexan, none of the more useful plastics including the biodegradable ones and probably the most important none of the More Modern Vaccines types that have come about because of the need to do away with Antibiotics. Most of the Modern Medical Advancements came about as a direct result of Research done in the Space Industries so without it we would still be hoping Penicillin works and treats Virus as well as Bactorical infections which it doesn't. Does it cost us a lot of money YES IT DOES but we get far more back from working in Space that what we put into it and it helps make Medicine better able to treat those Pandemics that are currently hitting the planet now. As for "The Great Beyond, Another Galaxy, Attempting to Explore New Life and Planets Far, Far Away, in Distant Galaxies." Never going to happen in our lifetimes at best we will explore a very small part of this Solar System and not get much out of the Goldilocks Zone where we can live let alone anywhere else in this Galaxy so you can forget about Intergalactic Trips as what is now Science Fiction and considered as Far Far Away is Mars which is pushing the existing Tech to even get there with robots let alone people. As far as Interstellar trips go it's going to take a very long time to even look like it is possible and they are the realitively short hop to the next star so dreaming of the next Galaxy is so far beyond our capabilities it is laughable. So as we can not even consider Interstellar trips to look at the next star away from this Solar System we have no possibility of looking for Life elsewhere other than listening in and hoping that we see something or hear something that is not background light noise. As for spending Tax Payers Money if we did not so that we would have far fewer advancements and be so much that we could very much be back to the situation of a Rose Thorn scratching your skin is a death sentence like it used to be only a couple of hundred years ago. Also how many people would be prepared to loose their Smart Phones or computers all of which where spured along by being necessary for Space. The computer that controlled the Space Craft that took man to the Moon covered several acres of ground and did not have the computing power of the cheapest smart phone today and the storage that the same phone has would have been impossible to comprehend in 1969.

This planet is doomed so we have to be able to get off it or we will be also rans. We have a few billion years to do it though. In the mean time space exploration creates advances in technology, medicine and many other area’s. just imagine what opportunities internet satellites are going to bring to the third world nations. As for a space force just think of the many ways people go about hurting each other and other things. Be aware if we can think of it, somebody else is already doing it

As soon as they wipe the "sleep" from their eyes and see what their "saviours" have to offer some just want the lot and more, there and then handed to them. Small wonder that space junk is being flung back from whence it came.

Here in New Zealand we spend a lot of money on a virtually useless Air Force, and far too much money on the Army, yet we have significant poverty. There is a case for having a Navy - to police our sea territory, for example. I don't think our government spends much on space exploration, but our government is still not spending appropriately.

It was exciting when they first landed on the moon but that has been done and dusted. You spend millions on sending people up there to do what???? How about spending those millions where it's really needed.

Governments are really selfish with using tax payers money. Will people never use their common sense and think of others before their own selfish whims. There was talk once that they never went to the moon but that it was fabricated. Travelling to the moon would take longer to reach it. Humanity really do get it wrong.

Other words we are stuck on this planet, and humans have too many human cause issues on this planet - too solve - or we become extinct.

The US having a space force makes sense because they and a few other countries seek domination over the globe, unfortunately. I have no problem funding space exploration if it's reasonable. It's absolutely incredible that humans have been able to see what the surface of other planets look like. I do have an issue with psychopaths that are pulling the strings all over the world however. Two different things.
