Discussion of the Day
Micro Managing Our Planet ...
APB02-Jun-25
Whether you believe in climate change or not, most folk think that there is pollution. Common ground. Let's start out with basics: don't flush your coffee grounds put them in your garden, or somebody else's. Recycle plastic bags at the very least once, like your life depended on it. This is the really easy stuff. If we all try, even a little bit harder, we will make a massive difference ... Hey, I like living on this planet ...

      • I like living here too - have probably planted more trees than any one else and they have all lived!

        • We compost our waste into our garden, and recycle our bags and cans. It's such an easy thing to do.

          • The bible says the earth will stand to times indefinite, which means nothing apocalyptic will happen to it, but yes, I do believe in climate change, but it is a natural phenomena and not caused by mankind. The ancient Egyptians suffered climate change when it didn't rain for 60 years and the wonderful grasslands became dry sand. The Vikings too experienced climate change when the sun didn't shine for 5 years and when no crops grew, they set off for kinder climates. I recycle all food scraps and have done so for more than 40 years, I also mend clothes and recycle them, but I really don't like being lectured to. I was very annoyed when I had to give up the single use plastic bag, which delighted both Coles and Woollies because it did wonders to their bottom line. I had to buy bags 3 times worse for the environment as well as garbage bags in 3 sizes because my single use bags weren't single use. I have also had to manage minus a plastic straw now forced to use paper ones that go soggy before I finish my drink, plastic cutlery has also gone replaced by bamboo that leaves a terrible taste in the mouth. The humble cotton bud was also deemed demonic and consigned to history replaced by a very unforgiving bamboo one that is quite capable of bursting an eardrum. Cardboard is no substitute for polystyrene because it doesn't keep the food warm yet all the while disposable nappies are still available, so are floor wipes, face wipes, hand wipes, baby wipes, toilet wipes, furniture wipes, glass wipes, pet wipes, but apparently these pose no problem to either sustainability or climate change. So I ask you a question, are we fair dinkum about climate change?

            • Not at all - it is just younger people who come up with these mind-boggling schemes - if they checked history they'd find we always used to do this in the pre 'throw-away' society that has now become the norm.

            • Mount Etna is currently pumping out thousands of tonnes of evil gases per minute, and the deluded think their Toyota Prius is going to save the planet. Think King Canute holding back the incoming tide. Now that's not to say we shouldn't recycle, but all things in perspective. The three largest polluting countries continue on regardless. China starts up a new coal fired power station every week. My country contributes point zero one percent to world pollution.

              ·
              • Recycling alone isn't the best answer. It uses a lot of petrol and coal and man labour to do it. the better way is just not to use plastic or metal or paper at all.
                ·
                • We don't own the Planet. The Planet owns us. There are many parts of Climate change only relate to making sure the oil company's stay happy. I keep collecting recyclable soft plastic, because the new machine will be some day. others laugh at me, because they can't get their head around it, so they continue throwing recyclable soft plastics away. I don't drive a car, is that a benifit or a loss. the list goes on and on. I don't have a child, that is a benefit to the planet because I am not contibuting to poulation growth. I m a human so I can't get away from this planet destroying madness. the only way is to live like an ape in the forest.

                  • I spent the first years of my marriage in a country area and found that generally country people are much more recycle, reuse and repair than city dwellers. There is also a great deal of barter as their resources in financial items are often fairly slim but exchanging what you or they have in excess in such things as eggs, fruit, compost, hay, children's clothes, are ways to balance each others budgets and not feel you have lost money but gained new friends.

                    • im an upcycler, I braid plastic bags to make rope to hang my pot plant holders, which are cordial bottles, I paint with coffee and coffee grounds as well as use them in the garden, I make my own gloss with polystyrene, you put all your scrap polystyrene into a product called xylene depending on the amount of gloss you want the more you put in the thicker it gets you have to find your way there but its a great product and so much cheaper it is a matt gloss and i recommend a mask

                      • I used to think the same until I realised how major corporations are the biggest contributors to climate change and pollution. It makes our efforts seem meagre and futile. Until these global organisations change I suspect life on earth is limited.

                              • I have solar, I upcycle, recycle, compost, worm farm, turn power ports off at the walls and lights off when not in the room. All my appliances are high energy rating certified, every light is a led light. My hot water is on a timer and I use very little power as a single person. What I will never do is harm this planet by buying an EV plus I don't want to be burnt alive. Though climate change has little to do with pollution as that is just one of many contributors. The main reason is that the earth 🌎 is orbiting closer to the sun so we get hotter then later on we will orbit further away and an ice age will start.

                                • exactly. How are batteries made and what is put in them? How are they disposed of when they will no longer recharge? How many people realize that cars and trucks have plastic body panels, not only metal. I know somebody who bought a second hand truck 20 years ago and some of its body panels are definitely plastic.

don't forget all the extra slave labour that is used to extract the extra minerals needed to make the extra parts of hybrids etc. It's just a fad/ con to divert the attention of the brainless into wasting money on what they mostly don't need. I've been doing all my stuff listed for yonks because I don't like wasting money not to save an unsavable planet.

We also recycle our soda cans, clear plastic bottles, milk jugs, car batteries, metals and all paper waste goes in the recycle bin. We recycle used oil back to the auto parts store. They use it to make insecticide. As for any meat scraps after dinner, the dogs accept all donations! The goose loves leftover veggies. My outside ferals get all left over milk.

                                            • What I find annoying is that most plastics aren't recycled. Big solid 20 litre oil containers are thrown in landfill. The amount of plastic containers like for frozen peas etc and plastic wrapping which isn't recycled is atrocious. Recycling is a good thing but I think the government isn't really serious, they just like to give the impression they are doing something.

                                            • A few more good ideas. Use material nappies and wipes not disposables which takes 100 years or more to break down. Do not use coffee pods, disposable coffee cup. Do not use plastic bags or any type of plastic and dispose of correctly by recycling at least. Do not buy plastic bottles of water as these are thrown away all over the place. Put native plants in your garden and or pot plants. I saw a Butterfly garden the other day on TV. Lovely. I am sure Bees would come to it also and it was only very small up against a wall. All this would make a difference but as you say Asia and the UK and other countries have high incidence of pollution in the air, land and waterways. The ocean has a huge garbage trap that would take years to clean up if it could be. Fishing gear is another thing where the long lines for instance are trapping so many of the beautiful large and small creatures. There are a few dedicated divers etc. locating them and removing them which is admirable but is a drop in the ocean. But as you say every little bit helps.

                                                  • The thing about plastic that makes the environmental solving problem complicated, is that wrapping and packaging food in plastic generally makes it keep a lot longer, so you have to decide, which is more harmful, producing, say 25% more food to replace the food that would go off because it was not packed for longevity, and using a lot of fossil fuels to grow and transport it, or not using plastic. I would suggest that using and recycling plastic is probably the best option.

The currents have taken a lot of it to certain places, but remnants still float independently in the waters. Humans are trying to clean it up, but it will take a long time. I Love animals. Individually what each of us do may not seem like much, such as taking our own containers to the Deli instead of the staff putting that 125gms of Ham etc. in HUGE Plastic bags and then wrapping it in copious sheets of paper, recycling as much as possible - DON'T Buy Sliced Meats, Chicken, Cheese etc. all packed in Plastic, and very much more expensive than the same products at the Deli or Butcher's, In our local supermarket they sell Bacon for less than $30kg, The same, but packed in Plastic, from the Self Serve fridge is priced at $43kg! Every bit we do may seem like nothing but collectively we will acheive amazing results. We cannot rely on our Politicians to do anything, other than chatter because they are frightened of putting people off-side anf thereby losing their Votes. If you know some so-called Sport, such as all Motor Racing is bad for the environment but other than for the winner it actually acheives nothing of benefit to the World then don't go to the races or watch them on TV.

Also there is a LOT of drinks food coming into Australia from overseas that are not recyclable and bottles cans cannot be cashed in at the return and earn centres. One way to use plastics that be recycled is to treat them under very high heat and pressure to make traffic sign posts, street sign posts and probably a lot more uses

We can take our plastic bags or used batteries to Coles and put in the bins there. Certain bottles and cans can be recycles for cash also. I have a lovely garden with a bird pond and I love seeing the birds and bugs come for a feed and drink. It is only small but I get plenty of action. However, I am the only unit out of 8 that has a garden. Others have rocks or maybe some sort of Palm tree and that's it. We do have 2 large native trees at the front of the units and they flower every year and bring in the Lorikeets and other birds by the dozens daily and yes they make a mess but it is so joyful. Now admittedly a chunk of those people would be babies and young kids, but imagine if a large percentage of those people each did a single thing everyday for the planet, what a change we could make.

Yes, there's lots of little individual steps people can take but the big steps need to be taken by the biggest influencers of pollution (like companies and government institutions) for substantial change to happen. I think as well as these little things we do we should also spend time writing to the people who can make the biggest changes - submitting on bills that influence pollution, asking our favourite brands to make their packaging recyclable, petitioning your local council to set up a green waste collection or asking the supermarket for a soft plastics collection.

Australia as I think in all of Australia, we already have green waste collection as well as a recycle collection in each home/unit etc. and supermarkets do collect plastic bags and also batteries. There is a bottle and can recycle unit where you get 10c back for each recycled article as long as the 10c was originally paid of course by the consumer on that particular product. We have clean up Australia Day where volunteers clean up the beaches, rivers, country areas etc. removing waste, old cars and rubbish and tonnes are collected every year.

My neighbors would kill me if I ruined their lawns and my landlord said no as well. However, I recycle a lot and hey- if you have a kitty cat, those plastic bags make good bags o hold the ookies when you clean out his or her or their litter boxes. I save a lot of those bags and donate them to the local food bank. When I go to the food bank, I always use cloth or canvas bags that can be used over and over again and they are even washable! Each year I have a freebies day on which I put out on my front porch (Marked FREE) a lot of items I no longer need nor want. This is recycling too.

Mother Nature didn't design the ecosystem to cope with excessive numbers. She usually keeps things in balance (e.g. too many rabbits means more wolves, too few rabbits means less wolves). Continual interference by humans and their excessive numbers has and still is screwing that balance up. Morons want to also start ruining other planets as well. 😟

I avoid buying products that are wrapped, apart from essentials like sugar. I don't drive, there is sufficient public transport for my needs. I live simply, reuse or repurpose what I can and buy second hand as much as I can. We just had hard rubbish Pick up here. You wouldn't believe the amount of waste in the streets. I have always lived this way, don't expect others to do the same, but it has become more popular with economic crisis and awareness of pollutants. I believe the world is changing. Whether from climate change or just a cycle that the planet goes through,it's important to realise that we can make our planet more liveable for all with our own actions.

I agree if we all do a teeny tiny bit more than what we are currently doing, even that small difference per individual would make a massive difference on a more national or even global scale.

Banana skins great for digging into the ground. Have a worm farm. I used to peel the aluminium off the back of tablet packets (no need now as our chemist takes them back & sends them for recycling) I have a shoe box & they all go in, when it's full I just put them in their bin, which is inside the shop), Any containers I get from bought meals I keep, wash & use them for storage in the freezer. The actions of humankind and fossil fuels have increased the rate drastically. It’s a scientifically proven fact.

Two, micromanaging of the planet does not work (unless everyone on the planet does it and that is never going to happen). Three, human beings are incapable of doing what is good for the greater good (or history would not repeat itself on this planet). Four, this is a capitalistic planet (profits over people and profits over the environment) and capitalism has existed for at least five hundred years on this planet (human beings are resistance to positive change unless it is going to enrich the rich). Last, la vie est une chienne et puis tu meurs.

I own no car (got rid of mine in 2009). Never drank coffee in my life, this is the EASIEST way to DESTROY your adrenals and kidneys. I walk everywhere. I recycle even though MOST of it ends up in a landfill. I use MINIMAL technology. I keep lights off most of the time. I don't buy plastics. I don't overconsume by shopping daily like lots do. Needles to say...I do MORE than most, yet I KNOW "climates" have always "changed" as ALL is cyclical. And this agenda being pushed is fabricated on purpose. We have actually been in a GLOBAL COOLING PERIOD...when does it end? 2030. What a coincidence that is the same as Agenda 2030. MAN...what a MASSIVE coincidence!!!!! You will notice this "cooling" when "weather" is ALLOWED to be weather, and they are NOT using HAARP ionosphere heaters to raise the temp up.Truth is...most so-called "harmful emissions" get ABSORBED by TREES!! This is called NATURE. Another truth is the global elites want to force us into MORE and MORE of THEIR control....and they do this using "sustainability" as the guise to force us into compliance. Another truth is these same people have been purposely manipulating our weather using HAARP stations strategically located around the world. Those HAARP ionosphere heaters will LITERALLY create "hot spots" in whichever areas they NEED to do so...so they can SAY "temperatures" are rising. Then they use the news, owned by the same elites, to push lies onto us so we "feel bad", while these rules NEVER APPLY TO THEM!! Also, TREES give us OXYGEN. They been CLEAR CUTTING mass amounts of trees...oh, my bad, THEY SAY they are "wildfires", but we know all these are started using DEW's...direct energy weapons...so they CAN get rid of loads of trees, force people OUT of rural areas, etc.The 5G/60 Ghz millimeter wave DOES NOT work as well when trees are present. The trees ABSORB the frequency. And, in case you haven't figured this out...60Ghz is the exact same frequency as the oxygen molecule absorption rate frequency. Meaning..oxygen IS NOT ABLE to bond to your hemoglobin...so your "Cells" will "suffocate". Guess what the 6G tech will attack? Your THYROID. It will inihibit the proper intake of iodine.I hope you all SEE what is going on. THEY want US dead. To put it simply. And THEY will do ANYTHING to achieve their goal...which is "depopulation". And, this simply means MORE people dying per day in the world on average...than there are being born. It's that simple. THEY want this by...2030!! But, by their very own stats, it is not set to occur until around 2050-2060 because WAY MORE people are awake and aware than THEY will ever lead on! They have achieved this in Japan already.I know lots simply "do not care"...but, then they WILL care about certain things. This is the cognitive dissonance the elites want you to have, aka the "model citizen" for them, a fully brainwashed, radical leftist HYPOCRITE. Every single thing pushed by the radical left...which is MOST of MSM, Hellyweird, etc. is ALL rooted in hypocrisy. EVERY SINGLE THING. We have been psychologically trauma bonded to 4 main tools of CONtrol by these elites. Voting for govt at all levels...is one. YOUR vote means YOU CONSENT that you are OK with corruption and fraud to go on! Stop participating. Using big pharma...is another. They know NOTHING of health, nutrition or healing. NOTHING. You play in their sandbox...you WILL fall victim to their lies as all they do is practice the "slow kill" method, while maximizing profits off you in the meantime. Mainstream media...this is the 3rd. Stop ingesting ANY of it. Left is OVERT and radical in the agenda, their ideal. But, the right is CONTROLLED OPPOSITION...seeming to be "different", yet being COVERT using more deception so the same agenda plays out. Escape the left v. right divide...we must awaken TWICE...once to the blatant left lies, but a 2nd time to the controlled opp right...two wings of the SAME BIRD. Finally...organized reLIEgion. ALL organized reLIEgions are IDOLATROUS. God is real..we ALL came from God, but don't be fooled, folks. The Bible is NOT literal fact...but it is ALLEGORICAL truth!! The SAME elites having it "play out" LITERALLY...are doing this TO MOCK YOU!! They were the SAME ONES (jesuits) who overseen the KJV be "adjusted".All in all...do what you can, but just know the "agenda" is a blatant FRAUD...and these elites will stop at nothing to KILL US ALL.It is 2025, folks. If you are not awake and aware to all this radical leftist hypocrisy, than I am sorry but you've been brainwashed and indoctrinated by blatant lies. The psychological trauma bond they control most is akin to us being in an abusive relationship with a narcissist/sociopath. We "stay" invested in the realtionship because "I know I can CHANGE them!" or "Oh, this is the last time, they're going to change, I beLIEve it!". ESCAPE THE RELATIONSHIP, folks. Cut ties with those 4 main tools of CONtrol, or they will keep CONtrolling you through their CONditioning, as they CONvince you to do as they say! See how the word CON comes up so much! Truth is right in front for ALL to see...but, in the land of the BLIND (ignorant), the ONE EYED MAN (the elites, they love their one eye symbology) is KING!! Stop being conned. You're better than them.

Even the washing up water became slop for the pigs, no detergent was used so it was safe .. the carrier of the slop bowl became their best friend. The tin man used to come around and fix the pots or take them away if no longer useable, the Rag Man used to taket he rags and the Bottles and Jars were all collected as well .. we only had one small Dustbin each week to put out. So guess where the "green waste" ended up, yes in the garden.

I recycle everything I possibly can. Don't have coffee grounds so didn't realise their issue. I would never put them down the toilet - it needs enough cleaning without making it worse! My council also has a separate bin to recycle food scraps etc now so the grounds could go in there maybe.
