There is no such thing as true freedom

easiest way to gauge freedom is to look at what freedom isn't... staying in the Ukraine isn't freedom. What a worry.

The meaning of freedom varies from person to person, it's like saying someone isn't "normal" because it's not what is "normal" means to you.

Freedom is fragile, relative, there is subjective and objective freedom - oh, I don’t know anymore! Is it really free? Does it have a price? Can I buy it? Then...it is a man-made product, sometimes is available, sometimes not, some shops have it some not...various qualities...and sometimes you just run out of it!

I think you have already said it all. Australians have much more freedom than many other countries in the world. If we lived in those countries that are dictatorships we might realise how lucky we are to have our freedom.

Freedom is being free to make choices, good or bad, making sure that what you choose doesn't violate the rights and freedoms of others. That is what it should be like living in a Western democracy.

Depends where you are and what you face. To me it means number of choices - if you only have 1 option then that's lack of freedom but if you have 2 or more then that gives you a greater degree of freedom. A lot of people would argue about the mandates being a lack of freedom but I beg to differ because you still have more than one option. For some people it is only one option due to job requirements/needing to pay rent or comorbidities in the family etc. So yeah it depends on the conditions.

Freedom for me is living a life that is not dictated by any person, government or religion even though we all need laws to abide by or otherwise it would be chaos. I can live with laws but not being dictated to, been told how to live or what work I have to do. Soldiers lost their lives for our freedom as they fought for our country. If they hadn't Australia would certainly be a different country now and well we would be living in concentration camps being used up for what ever we were capable of. Thank goodness that didn't happen. With the threat of WW3 around the corner appreciate the freedom you have because it could be gone tomorrow.

Freedom is the right to make discrimination and victimisation charges against a School Principal without further victimisation. In NSW, after a negotiated process to transfer the woman out of a bitter and hostile situation to another school , after a Freedom of information request, she finds out that the Government Education officials covered up the criminal activities of the principal and recorded that the female teacher was transferred for the "good of the staff". Her career is grossly affected, the Department spends a fortune on defending the principal and allows him to continue to commit similar actions against other females without penalty. Who will audit how much public money was spent on covering up the damage that this man did, to staff and students alike To the NSW Government, Freedom does not exist.

Freedom of thought and actions but with this freedom also comes responsibility which many do not like to adhere to. Yes there are laws one must follow as without them only anarchy exists. Many people marched here in Australia against masks, vaccines, lockdowns etc. However, we had just over 5000 deaths and just over 3 million reported cases. Victoria had the majority of these cases. Mostly all restrictions have been lifted now but people are still protesting - for what now? Some politicians are saying we lost our freedom and will again as soon as the election is over. These are the same people who backed the protesters and put out incorrect messages. Scare mongering at it's best. We do not have soldiers on our streets carrying assault weapons. We were allowed out to shop, exercise, walk the dog, take our kids to and from school, get medical, dental etc. services. Yes our liberty was limited during this period but the virus was managed. So, freedom comes with responsibilities to others in our society. Freedom is not being ruled with an iron fist and a rifle and threats and deaths. I never felt my freedom was taken away from me during this time. My opinion was that I was working towards the freedom of beating the virus so life could get back to normal for everyone.

The price we pay is lonliness and isolation because people in general cannot have open conversations or differ in opinions and just be left at that and still be friends. Jealousy, envy and money are our curse in life without those care and love might abound.
