There was a time in professional sports when the umpire/referee made a decision, it was accepted as final without question. Errors were made, but were acknowledged as part of the game.
Today, almost every decision is referred to an authority away from the playing field. This not only interrupts the play of the game but calls into question the integrity of the field official.
