I do talk to all the pets and I feel like they understand. The Chiweenie will have a conversation with me.

I talk to our dogs,cat and birds just like I do people but one major difference is they don't judge and they listen better than most people

Only certain birds can actually talk, or mimic humans words. I don't think they understand any words tho.

Of course I talk to my cats. They have ears, feelings and know right from wrong. One is quite talkative and has a lot to say while others tell me off. However, they are all male and just like human males there are times when they choose to simply ignore me.

I definitely do talk to my little dog. If you say words often enough i notice that he gets to know them. He is not a big dog but he has got a loud bark. I say to him softly H and it gets lighter by quite a bit and I praise him up There are a lot of things I talk and he definitely knows what Im saying because je will go and do the things I ask of him It is really good company

TOTALLY AGREE. As far as I am concerned they are part of the family - why would you not talk to them?. Our white german shepherd understood everything. I reckon he could read my mind. Hahaha

Some dogs are smarter than others but they still do not understand speech. Monkeys are smarter than dogs and they do not understand human speech either.

Absolutely. They respond, and they sure are great listeners, as well as entertainers. We have 2 cats.

Animals can be cruel and do hurt and can kill humans. They aren't innocent babies to be treated like babies. I'm sick of hearing about dogs Killing and maiming people. The reason is that these animals and esp some types of breeds are prone to aggression. If they lived in the wild they would have access to this environment and would have to ability to release their aggression in a natural way. Dogs were domesticated thousands of years ago but they still have the instinct of wild dogs, or many do, so sometimes they will attack humans and animals. Also turning on the owners if they feel like it. But cooped up in the suburbs they can't release that aggression as much and eventually it will build up and they attack people, often randomly. Dangerous.

Less animals should be bred in Australia, esp Dogs, cats, rabbits. There should be a law that says only 2 pets per household. Unless on a large property. That would lower the amount of wildlife killed by these other pets, or in some cases, they are pests. Any excess of animals not housed should be humanly put down. Edited 01-Oct-23 13:15pm

Smelly. Carrying parasites. Germs. Costs heaps of money to feed and pay for them to live. Vet fees etc. Just so moronic owners can get amusement that is sadly lacking in their dull and lonely lives. I'm glad I'm over the pet ownership thing. I would never get one ever again. They take too much effort to look after properly. And many pet owners fail to do a decent job of that. Many cats and dogs are spoilt and lazy. They eat too much and these days don't get enough exercise. I do not blame pets for that tho.Edited 01-Oct-23 13:01pm

Some people act as if they are married to pets. It's like a sickness in some people They keep their cats and dogs locked up inside, all hours, day and night, except for the odd walkies. Animals are not being respected for being just animals. Some lonely people even use them as a substitute for company. Or for children replacement. Animals aren't fur babies. You can be affection towards animals but going to far isn't good. Animals should never sleep on your bed. For hygiene reasons. People who do that are dirty humans. Id hate to catch what they catch! Animals cannot understand speech. Just like we cannot understand what they are trying to do when meowing or barking. Only through interpretation of body language or signs can humans and animals for any communication.

When I was pregnant a relatives cat that was donated to them would sleep on my stomach. They said it was unusual as it wouldn't let anyone touch or pick her up. She was a rescue cat that I believe was badly treated. I stayed over one night and the poor cat was attacked by a possum. Nasty deep scratches down her head and face. I heard her meowing on my bed ,blood everywhere. I was the only one she let carry her to the vet. Unfortunately she got an infection,fluid around her heart and lungs from the attack and had to be euthanased. Sad life for any animal. Has anyone else had an animal behave unusually while they or their partner were pregnant?

I do, I can't help think they understand some of what you're saying espcially by the tone of your voice. Last night my cat kept meowing and banging at my bedroom door, I got up 2 times in the night to tell her to shut up, but not angrily. The 3rd time was just too much so I really growled at her, she didn't make a noice after that.

oh of course!. Even the possums, who wait for me to put fruit and seeds out.. Our pets know when when need them.

hi i talk to my little esa all the time she loves to get in my lap while watching tv her name is cierra and her nick names are princess cierra and madam munchie shes the apple of my eye and i love her dearly

Yes we do as they do listen to us and they love us unconditionally as we do them and they are a huge part of our lives. Our cat meows at us she is just gorgeous and the boys well they talk to us too. Woofing when they hear some thing, our youngest growls at the cattle next door so we tell him to stop as they are allowed to be there. He gets a little possessive of his bones and he snaps at the older dog for even walking passed him, he's just protecting it but no one else wants it. He can be a little silly at times. The pets make us very happy and we love them so much. I am sure we will loose our old boy one day in the not too distant future but I try not to think about it because it makes me so sad when I do. He's nearly 15 but he is doing so well for his age, sleeps a lot on our bed. We always know where he is. He has been an amazing dog and he will be greatly missed when ever we do loose him. I will cry and we will be very sad for a long time. He's well travelled as he came on our around Australia trip. We used to call him the caravan trip wrecker but we wouldn't have had it any other way. Some places were hard to see because they didn't allow dogs and of course we couldn't go into any national parks but we managed.

I don't have any pets right now, but I used to talk to my dogs like that. I talk to my grandpuppies that way, too.

Yes, I had a cat that understood what I was saying. I used to talk to my dogs, sometimes they understood. I talk to my rabbit, she understands some things. I used to talk to my bird and to my tortoise.

Yes I do - I have kangaroos, wallabies, and a special water dragon in my back yard and I take time to speak to them every day. Last night I also had this huge python climbing up some lattice but I didn't stop to speak to him or her.

Pets are getting dumber. They are inside too much and are losing their abilities to think for their self. How unkind is that! Lovin pets to death is bad for their cognition.

OMG! A resounding YES! My Sadie is the only other warm body in my rental duplex, and I talk to her all of the time. She understands many of the things I say, and right now we're going for a 'WALK'! ;-D
