Has immigration affected your job or your chance to get a job, or has it made a difference to your job?

No but it's something we have to think about

Immigration can affect job markets in complex and often misunderstood ways. For some, especially in industries with high competition or limited opportunities, immigration may feel like it adds pressure to wages or job availability. In sectors like construction, hospitality, or IT, the influx of skilled or low-wage labor can change the dynamics of hiring and pay. However, immigration also brings substantial benefits—many immigrants fill labor shortages, start businesses, and contribute to economic growth, which in turn creates more jobs overall. For others, immigration may have no noticeable impact on their job or could even improve their work environment by introducing diverse perspectives and skills. Ultimately, the effect depends on the industry, location, and broader economic conditions.

In NZ the Government keeps bringing in Immigrants and refugees. When they arrive they are given money, houses and vehicles, some are taught basic English and then put on benefits. More money than the unemployment benefit. a lot more money than retirees, and houses from the State House system, while we still have thousands of people on a waiting list for those same State Houses. There are hundreds of unoccupied state houses around the country that have been unoccupied for years and the Government won't spend the time or money to do them up properly and put families in them, even though the buildings are actually very sturdy structures. They just need good TLC. Now I have heard the Govt is intending to sell a whole lot of the state houses and build new ones. Where the devil are their priorities, and these homeless still live on the streets or in their cars with children, including at times, little babies, and through winter. Many Immigrants get jobs because many New Zealanders won't do the jobs, won't leave the cities, or can't pass a pre-employment drugs test. I am 75 and still working, because I need to, as the pension is inadequate to survive on, but have never been unemployed, had to pass drugs test for jobs, yet all the benefit receivers don't have to pass a drugs test to get their money. I know there are many genuine cases need assistance, but when is something going to be done about all the bludgers who just sit on their butts all day and make no attempt to get a job, do drugs and can't be bothered to work.

Immigrants are willing to be exploited with low wages and work in unsafe conditions. So yes, it does affect chances of getting a job because some of us have standards of working conditions that we will not negotiate on.

There is impact on immigration , but on the other hand we can't get any locals to work. Employers are looking all over for employees, but nobody wants to work.

Yes, for me it has. I work in the aged care sector and without immigration help there would not be enough carers to look after the elderly

It has affected some of my family in getting good jobs. It is a government and political lie that US citizens do not want to work or work at jobs "Immigrants" will work at. I know this first hand and upfront and it is one of the biggest lies out there. Immigrants are given favor over a lot of lower income pay jobs. However there are a lot of people who are citizens who will work for those wages too. Years ago now my husband was working for a wage that was barely keeping us afloat and applied for a janitor job. Those hiring knew us well as It was my home town and they told my husband we could not live on the wage they would pay which was $2 more an hour than he was getting paid. It would have given is what we needed to put savings aside and things for emergency and extra. They hired non citizen instead who was single without a family. We had four kids It was a bitter thing. We also as a family picked apples and pears and cherries when things were tight. Now they favor the immigrants over citizens most of the time. It is wrong and false that we as US citizens won't take such jobs many will and try to. They also are given housing and EBT cards, My granddaughter and husband had one such family living in an apartment below theirs and needed babysitters the family below turned out to be illegal and they got to know them pretty well. They did hire them to babysit when they needed to work or go to appointments. The immigrants spoke broken English and yet they had expensive phones and nice clothing. Eventually they were caught and deported but they lived in the same apartment complex as my granddaughter for nearly a year. Most the crimes we have in our area are committed by illegals the past 3 years murder, rape, theft of cars and other items and vandalism. A lot of them are young men and have guns and belong to gangs now. 25 years ago we did not have gangs in Spokane.

All illegal Immigration should be stopped, the amount of illegals that our ABF and Navy catch is so good, they do great job, the Indonesian Government have a lot to answer for.

Immigration has crushed our community in devastating ways. It's got to be stopped. Not to mention the 2 (includes the one with husband) almost fatal random acts of serious violence that almost took my life the one by myself and mine and my husband's lives once as a couple. Our beautiful city has literally become a Mexican ghetto. I have several beautiful and contributing friends that are Hispanic, so there is some positive, but truly having had these life altering altercations have me saying that immigrants need to stay in their countries unless coming to America the lawful and legal way and I get to speak out bc this has touched my life and my communities lives so overtly. I know most other countries don't have open borders for me to arrive at their country and just let me move on in. I know this quite factually. But this will be an issue addressed by whichever new president takes office. It can no longer go on and our citizens and governments well know it. There has to be vetting and order of anyone wanting to immigrate here. Case closed. No on has walked in my shoes.

Here in NZ while we rely on migrant workers that is largely because far too many able bodied Kiwis simply won’t do the work. Why? Largely because Work & Income NZ would rather pay perfectly able bodied, unencumbered people a weekly benefit than make them go out and work. Then before the week is up most of those same people complain about having no money/falling short. Migrant workers on the other hand come here to WORK, because unlike our own they know that back home there is no welfare safety net. If you don’t work you don’t eat.

In Australia 90% of the population are either immigrants or children of immigrants. I would think USA is the same. It would be a different world if there were no immigrants.

I'm a house mum so no competition for that job... Anyway I think we can all agree that everyone has ancestors who have immigrated at some point in time. Humans have a pioneering spirit after all which is good for a lot of reasons. Immigration is necessary at some point in time due to a number of reasons. An example would be aging populations which is costly and leaves a skill shortage so you have to get people in to pay taxes to care for elderly and keep the economy running. Alternatively you could embrace the robots but personally I'd rather good jobs go to young deserving people who are willing to work hard.

immigration policies that can make it difficult to obtain visas or permanent residency. This can affect your ability to stay in a country long-term and pursue career opportunities .Immigration processes can be lengthy and uncertain, leading to delays in obtaining the necessary permits to work or reside in a country. This uncertainty can cause significant stress and disrupt career plans.

I think they do need to work for their keep and their is a labor law on wages here in the United States. And ya know their are jobs here that most don't want to work at .Send them to those jobs that noone else wants.I think the ones in prison need to work and earn their keep also and keep them busy.

Immigration is a matter of the heart based on its need for workers and new ideas to keep our society functioning. This has nothing to do with employment opportunities.

The reason immigrates are getting jobs is because they are willing to take anything, start at the bottom and work their way up. Today's children are privileged. They have been brought up in an educational system where they get a trophy for coming last because they are so special. Problem is the real world doesn't work that way. I have friends that have been unemployed for years, not because there are no jobs but because they are waiting for that "perfect" job where they skip the years of hard work and are already midway to the top without the effort.

There is a problem with all the immigration now in that some places only want to hire those who speak Spanish. They have therefore come here and created their own jobs in a way, which now does affect potential employees.

The point is you can't sustain such an immigration push this time. The last big migration of the 50s and 60s was based on a need to ensure that we had sufficient resources to predominantly defend our shores. Those people came out of war torn Europe. New enterprises sprung up factories etc... remember we used to make things here. This migration push is based on a wealth strategy. If you've got cash you can come and setup a 2 dollar shop or a lotto agency. And buy property push up prices so that locals can't afford to buy a home anymore. A labour government ponzy scheme that is bound to backfire.

He was always complaining that employees were stealing his money if they took an extra minute to get back on the job after meal breaks or took too many toilet breaks, and all the while he was stealing their wages by refusing to pay overtime rates. One of his rules was you had to start work half an hour early each day without pay to make up for your inefficient work practices during the day. He even went so far as to install a fingerprint clock in and out machine and every time you left the factory floor to have a meal break or go to the toilet you had to clock out and in, then the time away was deducted from your wages.

They lock people up for stealing a toast from Kmart, but he gets away with it scot free because every time anybody complained he sacked them then threatened them will a law suit if they reported him. Being mostly immigrants working there, that used to scare the crap out of them and they just gave up and moved on. I tried to take action against him and the proceedings dragged on for 3 years. His lawyers wrote the most astounding bald faced lies about me and in the end my lawyer told my to give it up and walk away, because if I lost, I would have to pay court costs of $40-70k and they thought it was just too big a risk. I withdrew my complaint on their advice but was never happy about him getting away with it. I also know he had been taken to court other times before I worked for him and used similar tactics to get away with his illegal activities.

Tradies for the building industry were needed so we accepted 250000 people and out of the 250000 we got 1100 carpenters and 250 plumbers. So what about the rest? Now that we have an extra 250000 people we need more tradies for the building industry but they are now saying we need people with higher qualifications. What, super chippies? I was talking to a nurse working at a children's practice and she told me about an immigrant couple who took a baby there that was so sick it was unable to hold it's head up or keep it's eyes open. It had been ill for a couple of days but they didn't know to go to a doctor. She said she felt sorry for them as they don't know about all sorts of things because they are immigrants. Yet these people are supposed to be "skilled". My daughter works in a doctors practice and tells me about the very sick immigrants who are coming here, some with life long serious health issues, but when it's time to pay they don't speak English. I'm tired of the crowded roads, the long hospital waits, the overcrowded schools as well as the housing shortage but the Government just keeps bringing more and more people in. It should stop until we get the infrastructure we desperately need.

If they're not ready to demolish them to build more on smaller blocks of land, rent them out until they are. Some have dry grass as high as windows of the the houses. A fire hazard if even glass was thrown in it by somebody too lazy to dispose of the container in a rubbish bin. Reduced rent is better than no income.

How is that amount of people negatively affecting your life ? I don’t agree with catholicism or any other religion for that matter but a large percentage of the population do. None of which have any affect on my culture or lifestyle.

People who live here find it difficult to find somewhere cheap enough for them to live in. The Government should look after the residents who are already here. Look at what the government do for illegal immigrants who land here. They put a roof over their heads and give them money to support them.

The government with it's same job equal pay has spoilt our work force. Which in turn is not good for businesses nor employees. It is hard to get a full time job because no one wants to pay the extremely high wages people want and need these days. I am so grateful I am not in any kind of business wanting to employ some one. People and companies need to know the prices they want are exorbitant and a majority of people can ill afford so we will find a cheaper alternatives, do it ourselves or go with out. Then where will people and compies be when that happens. It's coming.

The major roads were built in the 1800s, and houses were built close to these roads, the Hume Highway in Australia is a good example, they say we are aging population and need more migrants to pay taxes but yet all major industries are moving to AI and automated workplaces, so the existing citizens will lose their jobs in the near future

They are great neighbors. The father works for a company that restores homes & businesses after a disaster. Their oldest son has a landscaping business. The businesses here have had help wanted signs up since the end of the pandemic. I have had several places offer me a job. They say that can't keep help, nobody wants to work. Even the postal service has a hard time getting workers.

Because immigrants will do the jobs some Americans won't, employers pay them less money. They haven't crushed wages or made rent go up. Rent goes up because of greedy landlords, building supplies costing more, people tearing up the properties before they move out.

The main problem with immigration here is that they're letting in too many people (plus the internal migration to cities and more people being born), while doing almost nothing to improve the infrastructure to cope with them. That means more traffic congestion, failing services (electricity, water, and waste water systems), etc., as well as building more and more houses increasingly further out, which destroys the countryside. 😟

We have had very strict water restrictions and generally have a shortage. Orchards and market gardens have literally died because of water restrictions. As a result some people have literally walked off their properties and also caused more unemployment. Higher population and constant water shortages are going to lead to even larger ones
