In today's generation, most people do not know how to build a resume or write a check. They expect the entitlements to magically get hired/promoted on the spot. Common sense is based on a generational experience, or how an individual is raised based on their family real life experience. There is a huge gap when it comes to experience and the generation they were raised on. Devils advocate.... there are some situations where the younger generation are figuring out that the 'wiser' generation did not have to experience in... "back in my day" . For instance, in the US the housing market. The back in my day-ers would say it's easy to save up and invest. But with the housing and economy (due to tariffs *cough cough) it's not as easy to own a house and maintain mortgage because of the economy. I think it has a lot to do with 'fitting in' - it starts at school ....don't think, just do what the others do - don't put your hand up and question, even when there's a little voice inside you saying 'really?'. Social media is the voice of Big Brother so only the strongest voice get's heard. 'Just go along with what others say and don't question.' These days, every country has a bully leading it, saying 'Do what I tell you... don't ask questions'. Everyone goes ...'ah well' and stops questioning.

In my opinion, common sense seems to have skipped a generation. Almost as if also that you're either born with it or you're not as well. I don't mean to be mean or cruel, but I am finding this to be the case more and more nowadays.

With information so readily available through the internet, people are relinquishing the ability to think for themselves and are allowing others to dictate and determine their opinions. This is creating a "woke" mentality and an entitled generation that has no understanding or recognition of common sense.

I think social media is good in some ways but unfortunately l think the younger generation now can't think for themselves, they seem to follow the herd mentality.

With society getting more polarized people don't look at what they have in"common" anymore, that's where common sense comes from, what we share. As we share less, and are less willing to change our minds, people don't want to believe they could have the same views as the "other side." Common sense requires a middle ground which has turned into a canyon.

I think it is because people have lost manners as well

from my perspective i grew up in the late 70's 80's & 90's. i had all my grandparents even had 1 great grand parent til 87. my point here is the interactions with these people and my parents being married my whole life and the fact that if i did something wrong i got my arse beat. all of these things played a crucial role in understanding what is common sense. today the children are sooo entitled they are convinced the world owes them something the exact opposite of what i was taught growing up. you cant punish your own children there is no cost to being a jerk. look how bullying has gone rampid. the reason you cant punish your kids. the hard lessons we learned are no longer hard they are dismissed as parental psycho babble. i use the phrase common sense has become a red herring all the time.

Common sense IMHO has been taken away from society, bc we have lost the ability to think for ourselves, and given up on our natural abilities to determine what is commen sense to the masses, or not. So yes common sense is no longer common. & smart ppl often dont give a fark...what others think...so not so much lack common sense, but just dont care. Also family units are fractured, and society is not as close as it once was, to form social norms which form the basis of how common sense forms. Schools no longer get students to think, in fact they are disadvantaged if they dare to think. Young people and many of their parents are glued to their devices and they believe everything they see online without ever asking questions. There is so much rubbish out there and the fact people believe it astounds me. For example, who in their right mind could believe if a man puts a dress on it make him a woman? Then there is climate change. Any thinking person couldn't believe that something humans do on earth can effect the weather. Then you hear the so called experts say don't worry about the facts it's all about feelings. That is possibly the problem, people are taught to feel rather than think. You can't tell the truth or face the facts because it might hurt someones feelings. Worrying about feelings and ignoring facts can be disastrous.

Technology has dumbed down America. People don't socialize as much in person anymore. No one knows how to spell or read an analog clock or text all day. No one has to think anymore. People are buried in their computers and video games and don't know how to interact with each other in person anymore. Kids are raised in daycares by strangers and don't get the one on one contact that they need from their parents and siblings anymore. Everyone goes their own way. A family is sitting in a restaurant and each one has a phone in their hand or the kids are playing video games. If my kids were in this generation, they would NOT be allowed to bring a phone, headphones, or a video game to the dinner table!

Common sense is learned by children as they grow if their carer/parent explains and helps them with different / dangerous possibilities to them as they grow so they see what can happen and to think for themselves - don't expect others to teach their children the hard way.

At one point it was common sense to use wooden boilers on steam paddle ships in the US (they often exploded)...that the Earth was flat...AND that the Earth was the centre of all creation....with all the heavens rotating around it...that testing for and then burning "witches " (or drowning them) was perfectly rational behavior...building cathedrals in medieval Europe with no real understanding of Gravity (they just fell down and killed people)..there are some interesting books on the subject..."truths" universal or otherwise vary wildly...have caused major wars...and are often not truths at at all...sorry... It has not disappeared but it is more noticeable with the morons on social media sprouting their rubbish and so many people including politicians now have a platform to speak before thinking. Logic and common sense are a great attribute and a pity it is not used.

There's a lot of people who don't have a lot of social interaction that do have excellent common sense. There's also a lot of people who spend tons of time with people and have terrible common sense (airhead is one of the terms usually associated with such and plenty of celebrities fit this profile). So, common sense has nothing to do with how much time you spend with people and has much more to do with what you have learned throughout your lifetime.

People's heavy reliance on technology has lead to a lack of common sense. If people are being told how to think & what to do via their devices, then they lack the decisive skills necessary to develop common sense.

Arguably, it is not common sense to reason that common sense has always been about. And arguably, it has nothing to do with social interaction, but instead an understanding of the physical world around us.

Some people just do not think things through these days. These days most young people and children are walking or sitting around with there phones and i pads etc they don't need to think ahead.

It starts when you are young and need to figure out how to navigate the little world around you. Parents and teaches need to let children make mistakes and figure out how to fix them, rather than fix it for them. Common sense of course would be using safety first.
