Hardly, not only a threat to people’s jobs but that contrived voice telling me there’s “something unauthorised” in the freakin’ bagging area or signalling that I need help I never asked for drives me up the wall. In fact I often wonder if it’s a real woman and find myself pitying the poor bugger of a man who has to listen to that everyday. Give me a worker any day. Rather pay for people than machines.

no . i chip people that their kids or grandkids wont have that full or partime job when they are teenagers, I did tell one of the people one day trying to shift me from a queue to come over here and use one of the closed checkouts. The boss or someone must have been close by arranging a display or something and next minute he opens up a empty lane. Gave me great satisfaction then when i went to pay with a won printed gift card , he had no idea and had to call one of the regulars to find out what to do.. Besides we were already paying for people stealing now we are also paying for. those that rip this system off.

when the other checkout have huge lines i will go to the self serve but i usually prefer to have a chat the person serving me. I am sure they get plenty of impatient nasty people. so i make a point of being genuinely friendly and courteous. Spread the love i say :)

Very convenient, but only for small shopping.

I get that some people don't like social interaction and I'm more of a stay at home person but it's sad that a majority of people now just want to avoid people all the time. Jobs are being taken away, we don't get a discount for doing it ourselves, it is really easy to steal and it is based on a trust system. I think less social interaction has led to people not knowing how to properly interact with others in social settings as well.

AFTER MILITARY SERVICE, I JOINED THE RETAIL BUSINESS. THAT WAS BACK IN 1976. I RETIRED IN 2018, FINISHING MY CAREER WITH WOOLWORTHS AS A MANAGER. THE BEST THING THEY DID WAS BRING SELF-SERVE CHECKOUTS INTO THE EQUATION. NO ONE LOST THEIR JOBS AS A RESULT AND IT SPEEDS UP SHOPPING NO END. I LOVE USING THE SYSTEM. ESPECIALLY IF I ONLY NEED A COUPLE OF ITEMS AND I DON'T WANT TO JOIN A LARGE QUEUE.

I most certainly DO NOT!!!! I love that someone knows how to pack my groceries and I'm giving someone a job. I detest the self-checkouts. It not only takes jobs away it promotes stealing and then we pay for that as the customer. No, I don't promote them at all.

NO, I usually get one that I have to have assistance with. We don't want unemployment to rise because of this technology introduction. A friend of mine said she is not doing to use one unless they give her a discount for doing their job.

I like to have a natter with the checkout operators. They get to know you and recognise you in the street. It’s good to say hi, but if I’m in a rush then the self checkout is great

No. If I have to do my own checkout then the store should pay me. I will deliberately wait in a que to be checked out to show the store that staff are valued. Stood in one the other day until the que had 8 customers waiting and they had to open another checkout. Felt good in myself that I had helped save someones job. I won't use the self service even if I have only one or two items. If they want to make them mandatory then I guess I will have to pay more and go back to the corner store.

Definitely NOT. Where are out young children going to get jobs in the school holidays. I am also sure that the people are ripping off the stores. by putting in cheaper apples (for example) than the ones that they are purchasing. The supervisor cannot be watching everybody all the time!!

No. Twice I tried it and forst time the scanner diodn't work. Second time it tried to double charge me. I am back using real people who are employed at the supermarkets.

I only use if the Service check-outs are busy and I only have a couple of itmes. Otherwise I avoid them likr the plague. Despite what the Supermarket people say they are Job Destroyers. I also prefer the human interaction because it also means more people in jobs and, particularly at this time with so many out of work - through no fault of their own or, for a change, employers not sdimply cutting staff for the sake of a few million more in profits - we need as many people in work as possible. This is akin to that darling of our stupid politicians: Autonomous (Self Driving) Vehicles. They don't seem to realise that there are 10s of 1000s of people who are not Technology suited and with all this automation what will they do for work - we may not like it but we NEED to work - when all those truckies, delivery people etc. lose their jobs as a result?

i refuse to use them,im not a paid employee,i wont contribute to loss of jobs,you dont get cheaper products out of it,the only benefit is to the retailer. i have been known to have a large trolley full of groceries,if the wait times are too long because they wont put staff on to man the checkouts ill just leave the trolley and walk out,plus i like the human interaction with the checkout staff

I went to a store the other day and they only have self-serve checkouts - won't be going there again!

I prefer to not use the self checkout unless I have only one item. Much prefer to keep the youngsters in a job and let their work ethic kick in. They are usually very pleasant to pass the time of day with as well - can't do that with a machine.

No never liked them and realised from the first one that it would put people out of work as we would be doing the job of the employees. I also see people struggling to use as there is no room for your trolley and you really need 2 so you can transfer the groceries from the in to out section. Still, the next wave of less employees will be all done on your phone or similar and the only persons needed will be the shelf fillers and these will eventually be replaced by robots. I often wonder where or how people will be working to pay for all the goods these companies offer. Next time you use a self checkout remember the prices of products did not reduce same as when they took the plastic bags away. Now everyone buys the plastic bags instead. It is all about the profit for the companies.

i prefer to support the checkout staff and interact with them. Lots of people today seem to go to great lengths to do things quicker and with as little human contact as possible. As my shop is usually large, the space and convenience of a helpful cashier is hard to replace. :)
