The Bank of Mum and Dad is now utilised by 2 in 5 first home buyers in Australia, making it one of the largest lenders with an annual lending amount of around $92 billion and an average loan of approximately $92,000 per transaction. What does it mean to the rest of us? Is the bank of Mum and Dad creating a new class system?
Cat Claw
Not really. Bank of Mum and Dad has always existed. I think the expectation is what has changed. I know my generation would only ask our parents for a loan if we were really in dire straits...and then pay it back. Now, I think there's generations of children who expect their parents to help and actually gift them the money.

I just finished Lucinda Riley's series of books called "The Seven Sisters" and enjoyed it very much. I am looking for a new series of books to read. Furthermore, I am not interested in science fiction or books with too much violence. Do you have any suggestions?
Nan
I recommend The Clan of the Cave Bear. It is about early man and the struggle to survive. Written by Jean Auel. There is about 5 books in the series. Not to be missed.

When you saw film footage of the floods in Florida...you might have been very surprised to see houses on fire in the middle of all that water... Hurricane Helene created a storm surge that flooded some electric vehicles, causing them to catch fire and, in some cases, ignite homes....the current advice is that you do own an EV and a hurricane is coming DO NOT park it in the garage or ANYWHERE near buildings...try and park in on higher ground (good luck with...

EV's a big risk. Also, child labour used to produce lithium for batteries. Batteries as far as I know not recyclable. Pollution still created by the manufacture of these vehicles. What is the point?

I don't live in Australia, but I totally agree with you about the news, and it's only going to get worse from here! In Matthew chapter 24 you'll read much more about what is REALLY going to be happening, not just what Satan, the Devil, Wants us to believe! Do Not Be Deceived! At 1 Peter 5:8 we read, "Keep your senses, be watchful! Your adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone." And at 2 Corinthians 11:14 we read, "And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps disguising himself as an angel of light." Beware, and Believe! ;-D

When my kids came home one day from School, they were both REALLY worried...the teacher had told them the icecaps were melting, and sea levels were already rising..." Are we going to be OK, Dad?"... Has anyone found out that the on and off ramps are supposed to be safe for all individuals who need to use them to help them on and off without getting hurt but if they are built like a slope, they become unsafe for them, especially downtowns. The people who built on and off ramps should at least have a pole or something people can grab a hold of to help them step up and down if they come across any of those on and off ramps, which aren't safe. Do you agree?

We have re-sold ‘phone’ tickets and have bought others tickets as well with no problems. Although positive emotions are up, the world still has a wellbeing problem. Negative emotions are still running at record highs. What do you reckon? Is there more negativity around, or are we just exposed to more negative news?
BLM
Does the world have a wellbeing problem - YES - in 'real time' known as - economic and social inequalities, public health emergencies, wars, climate crisis, etc. FYI: In the country I reside - USA - we are exposed to too much to DONALD JOHN TRUMP on television and on online - just hearing his names on the news on an ongoing daily basis creates negative emotions at historical high levels in the USA.

My question is: Should seniors choose large dogs vs 20lb and under? I was walking my dog and I often see seniors walking their dog. What I am surprised to see are seniors walking huge dogs - like German shepherds. Great Danes, boxers, golden retrievers- and others. I often see elderly unable to manage their large dog - due to strength - mobility, etc. should seniors stick with small dogs that are more manageable?

Communication is key to handling various values in a partnership. There are many long-lasting relationships among people of differing political or religious viewpoints. You might give your marriage a chance to survive if you can properly discuss and disagree. What are your thoughts? How do those who are married work through their differences?

Have read the comments with interest. I was 2 months from turning 16 when I met my husband at the local swimming pool. I was keen on one of the attendants but the one that walked me home was to be my future husband. The following day (Saturday) I ad to do some shopping at the local shopping centre & lo & behold, who do I see but my future husband (Dave). He couldn't remember the house number of the house where I lived, so he was riding his bike, hoping that by riding around, that it would jog his memory of where I lived. I called out to him & that was the start of us becoming a couple. That was the 30th June & on the 12th July, I asked him if we could get engaged as I knew he was going into the English army for 2 years National Service. Luckily, he said "yes" but I didn't an engagement ring until my 16th birthday which was in the August just prior to him doing his duty. We remained engaged until Dave got demobbed 2 years later which gave me time to save for my "bottom drawer" & to save up some money. The outcome of all this, is that last month we celebrated our 64th Wedding Anniversary. I can't say that it has always been easy but those 2 years being engaged gave us time to become friends, we've always tried to compromise & to talk things through. Afterall, we are each individuals with different opinions so you have to take this into consideration. We are both now in our 80's, do things together, as he does the cooking & I do food preparation, such as vegies etc. Still very happy to this day. Hope I haven't bored anyone with the story of my marriage.

Lately, renting has become very high. When it comes to food or clothes, one can save up. But renting is something that you depend on others. The cheapest renting in Canada is $2,000 for a family. I'm with you. I always acknowledge drivers for acknowledging something I've done and vice versa. Although there have been many times when the little devil on my left shoulder wants to come out and say something but the little angel on my right shoulder always wins. I normally try and think what certain drivers are going to do before they do it. I do often say that the driver must be in a hurry for their own funeral or they must be very rich to pay for their fines and damages as well as mine. In the long run it really isn't that hard to be nice.

"Stay positive no matter what happens." That's one simple piece of advice that changed my life. I learned the importance of this advice the hard way when my life was travelling along just nicely. What about you? What is one piece of simple advice that actually changed your life?
WonkyandProud
I had heard it for years but had no idea how to do it. My advice was to love myself. Finally, I realized that I was no worse than anyone else. We all have skeletons in our closets, but my depression would not allow me to forgive myself even though I knew I was a good person with a heart full of love for everyone. Finally, I figured out why I had done the things I was not proud of, and I realized anyone would have done the same in the same circumstances. Now I love myself, and it has changed my life completely!

For me, decent housing improves health, education, and work. It provides a sense of safety and belonging. Without a decent home, it is difficult to contribute to society. Because housing is so vital to our "mana" and wellbeing, it is a human right. How is it where you live, and what are your thoughts?
merricat
Where is it written that we have the "right" to expect a home, or shelter? From our earliest ancestors, they had to hunt and gather what they needed to survive. They hunted animals for food, and they used the skin and bones to build shelters and make clothing, using crude tools made from other parts from the animals they hunted. Eventually, they made better tools, allowing to build better homes using more natural elements, rocks, wood, mud, eventually metal. They had to work for everything that needed. There were no free handouts. Why should any able humans expect anyone to give them anything that they didn't work for?

How can I be sure that a virus protector is legit and doesn't infect my system with a trojan virus?
Andrew C 287196
Make sure you download it from the developer's legitimate website or from the appropriate official App Store. Downloading from anywhere else is asking for trouble.
You can also still buy your anti-malware software from a big-name established brand high street computer retailer.
OR, you could just buy an Apple device - they have no real malware problems (unless you do stupid things like download pirate movies or visit porn websites, in which case you get what you deserve).

I was asked, If you were running your own diner or any small business. Would you hire someone currently convicted and still have dozens of crimes to fight against? The person might be innocent as every criminal would claim for themselves. But would you trust that person to serve your customers? Guard your cashier?
Do you think when you hire this person, she/he would dedicate all their time to work for you or be distracted with their ongoing legal battles ?

One of the biggest barriers to sharing has to be ego. Some people simply won't admit that they have made a mistake. This may be through fear of how others might see them or because they believe they don't make mistakes (in this case it's usually somebody else's fault ). So, how is it with you? How often do you admit when you are wrong about something? Is it difficult for you to do so?

They are rooted in psychological and behavioural deficiencies, such as lack of work ethic, lack of faith, lack of discipline, over-spending, excessive risk-taking in investments, greed, pride, and an insatiable desire to impress others. What are your thoughts? Why is it so hard for some people to make money, yet so easy for others?
Bec 416633
Making money and wealth are two different things and neither are necessarily the answer to happiness. Depends on your definition of making money too. A dollar or a million dollars a day? Opportunity, falling into your lap or created, and mentoring. Intelligence and mental acuity. Knowing how to work smarter not just harder. Learning how to make money work for you, not you work for it. Luck. I've had money and a dream life, then lost everything and we ended up homeless for a time, because my now ex-husband ended up with a brain injury then a fairly rare dementia and I cared for him instead of looking out only for me.

I was reading an article today. A travel journalist commented on an elderly couple walking arm in arm along the streets of a country town. He described this as an example of "enduring love" or "mobility support". Why are some people sceptical about affection between elderly people? I like to think that in an ideal world, there should be no age barrier to people showing affection to one another. What are your thoughts on this issue?
writerrochelle
"Elderly" is such an ugly way of describing Senior Citizens. I'm 76 years old, and I have the "heart" of a 16 year old. I'm still compassionate and caring, lively and loving, thoughtful and thrifty, and I have empathy and humility. I was a good kid, and now I'm a good "Baby Boomer". As one grows older in years, our minds stay young, even if our bodies don't and, given the chance, I could love someone just as much now, if not more, than I did when I was young! ;-D

Op shop shopping, has become very popular for all ages. I donate regularly when I have a "clean up." It is a great way for organisation's to make money. But, I have also noticed as the popularity has increased so have the prices! Would it not be better to keep prices low & guarantee more turnover? Have others noticed the changes?
Glenystas
My husband and I manage a small op shop run by our church. We are all volunteers and with money raised (once overheads are paid) we donate a large portion to local groups and 2 international projects started by ladies living in our local area. Some of the major charity groups now employ coordinators, and pay some staff members and this is reflected in the pricing. We regularly have sales specials and reward our loyal local shoppers with a loyalty card giving a discount on their 8th visit. We have standardised pricing most clothing items are $4 each, childrens clothing 00000 - 14 are 5 items for $1; new items with tags and better quality items are priced accordingly and are on separate racks. We also have an understanding with local employment agencies whereby their clients going to a job interview can access clothing for the interview free of charge. Try to look for one of the independent op shops in your area because I am sure you will find that the prices are more reasonable and support your local area to a greater extent.

I have lost three close loves ones this year and almost everyone I hear from is in the same boat. I'm not just talking older people either. I'm hearing of so many younger, healthy people suddenly dying. It's so very sad. My friend was telling me of the procession of funerals she has been to this year and the last one was over two days as the cemetary were too busy to intern his casket on the day of the funeral! Is anyone else here seeing the same kind of thing?
There are about 3 million carers in Australia either full time or part time looking after family members etc. a higher number of women and also a high number of younger Australians. These are not in aged care homes etc. but private. They may get a carers pension and allowance but this is way below any job in the workforce. There is no superannuation paid for them For some there may be an inheritance but this is not always the case. A woman who has a baby gets...
2026
Hmm.
I think too much is given to mums and single mums.
Because they have women advocacy groups that can influence the dumb politicians in power.
Yes, home carers do deserve more.
It's not compulsory to work unless you don't have a partner to support you.
So not necessarily for women to go to work if their kids are too young to yet go to school, instead of daycare.
If they wanna work then they should wait until their kids are in primary school, and have someone help them after school hours for their kids.
Too much money is being spent on child care.
My parents never had access when I was a kid.
Women's groups are behind this shit.
Too much family benefits as well, even if they work.
Many of these families are hardly paying much income tax, when you factor in their holidays, sickness days off, public holidays, family benefits, subsided children care, health care.
No wonder Aus is going broke!
Never had much help in my parents day.
Didn't have much in the way of most of these options.

Do you believe in the Empty Nest Syndrome many parents feel when their kids leave home? Or do you think it is a made-up syndrome, as my friend told me. I have recently experienced my last child leaving home-leaving my house empty, and I experienced 'empty nest syndrome'. I was unprepared for the amount of depression I experienced in a childless home after being a single mom for years. I believe in the empty nest syndrome - what about you - is it real or fake?

Our oldest (22) still lives with me to make sure I'm ok as their dad passed this year. I'm currently building off grid to be alone. My son went down to his Australian bank today to withdraw $7,000 in cash....they asked him what he needed the money for (whose money is it?) and then told him that they didn't hold a lot of currency...and that if he needed to withdraw more than $4,000 he would need to make an appointment...he got the money out of them in the end...after a struggle.....is this the new normal for Banks?
Neo
They all do that now. What was considered a little bit of money is now considered lots. They are just abiding by cash laws which compels them to report suspicious transactions.
By law any transaction that is considered suspicious can be reported even if it is below $10000.
It is no longer "your money, Ralph".

We've all seen the effects of social media in day-to-day life, and now many children are being given phones and downloading many inappropriate social media apps. Should they be allowed to be on them? There are already age restrictions on these apps, but many people ignore them and get them any way.

What do you think if you're travelling down the road and several people blinks their light to notify you of the police is ahead? Do you think it is out of generosity or the people is saving you some money from the city or state from charging you a fine?
Andrew C 287196
Such signalling means the idiot drivers slow down for a short stretch and then simply speed up again after passing the police camera. The best option is to signal a "camera" even when there isn't one, then the idiot driver slows down for longer. Even better, let the idiot drivers get caught, fined, and even potentially have their license removed. *THEN* the roads will be much safer for the rest of us who actually obey the road rules and speed *limits*.
It's very very simple: If you can't obey the road rules, then get off the road!

Long ago during the Crusades in Europe and the Middle East, the king of France (Phillip the Fair) owed a huge sum to the Knights Templar and to avoid paying what he owed, he made a deal w/ the Pope to have the Knights arrested and tried on heresy which is more lies from the Catholics to steal and lie and cheat and grab lands for the Church and the Crown. Of course, the Knights got wind of this and sailed away on several ships w/ all their loot and money and that treasure trove is still missing! The leaders of the Templars and as many of their followers they could find (which were not numerous!) were burned at the stake or hanged! Then the greedy Pope and King raided the Templar churches and found 'housekeeping funds' amounting all told to a few thousand French Francs- maybe in today's market- $500! If you want to read a good book re the Templars, find Umberto Eco's (He wrote the Name of the Rose too) novel 'Foucault's Pendulum' which advances many theories as to the location of the Knights' treasure trove.

I would love to be able to create a topic of compliments and inspiration. The very first person to comment would state something they're grateful for, then the next person to comment would compliment or inspire the person above them, and so on. The only rule. Make it positive or inspiring for the person above you. The reason I would love to do this is because I believe there's a lot of people out there, myself included, in this world that may feel lonely, sad, or just lost ...

If everyone on this earth lived by the guidelines written for our benefit in God's inspired word, the Bible, there would be no wars, no poverty, no abuse, no loneliness, none of the things we see in the world today. I have recently stepped back from a very intense role, and now I am struggling to adjust to being much less busy or 'in demand' in my new role. My new work is satisfying, and while I love not doing 60 hr weeks, and leaving with no worries or concerns at the end of the work day, I am used to operating at a much higher level of demand. I wondered how others have coped with this experience and whether that will fade. I stepped back as it was burning me out after 6 yrs,...

Cooked people and cooked pigs evidently taste much the same, and I understand Maori were not shy about doing a spot of people cooking. The Maori ate other Maori, then suddenly along came white people and they had a choice!

I came from the age where spankings were a normal form of discipline. It was never severe, and we barely felt it. I feel that is made us respect our parents in a way that children don't do anymore. Perhaps I'm wrong, but did a gentle spanking do more than hurt our feelings because we knew we did something wrong? In school, I believe some type of discipline should be implemented other than yelling! I don't care for the idea of yelling at children, especially in front of...

My father was approaching his 91st birthday and asked me if I would go to his house one day and sort through his photo's because he said if he died no-one would know who the people in the photos were. I didn't have time, and I was going on holiday but said I would go around when I came home. Well that can happen when the person is alive too. My Mum doesn't remember what she had for dinner the night before but remembers growing up during the war and being bombed out twice. Her short term memory is like non existent but she can still play a mean game of scrabble. Some times we don't listen to the important things because life gets busy or it not quite the right time, don't dwell on that. Mistakes happen and we have to get on with life but make sure you allow your self to grieve too. Go through his photos and remember him lovingly. After all he was your Dad. Don't hate a day because of the commercialism where it's all about spending money, Father's Day can mean so much more if you just put in a little imagination. Go for a picnic or have a nice lunch, go for a walk and reminisce the Dad you had. Sorry for your loss and he lived a long time and I am sure he had a great life. You are apart of his legacy. Remember him fondly in the things that make you unique.

Should offenders be jailed for the rest of their lives without parole, leaving the bill to the taxpayer, which amounts to over $100k annually? Or should we just implement the death penalty? The only reason offenders receive these sentences is for the protection of the community not financial protection. If the death penalty were applied to severe life-without-parole offenders, both the community and the taxpayer would benefit. In either case, the offenders aren't stepping back...

We clean the windows when they need cleaning, but there's little point during the wetter months. Mind you, there's little point any time because they soon get dirty again around here, plus it's impossible to get "streak free" cleaning, no matter what the products you use like to claim. :-(

I don't think I ever needed that spare one, but I have several in my 'button box'. (I'm 75) I think most young adults today haven't been taught or wouldn't have the slightest notion or knowledge to sew a button on. It's a throw away society. Very sad.

Everything in moderation. Too much Salt (NaCL) = Hardened Arteries & heart problems. Too much Fat = Heart problems, obesity. Too much Sugar = Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes. Read the Labels if you value your health. Watch out for all those Chemicals with weird names you can't pronounce or just Numbers both of which are meaningless. Want to cut down on the Sugar.Fructose intake? Then make sure there are NO Artificial Sweeteners such as Aspartame etc., some of which are highly Carcinogenic. Stay away from those so-called Natural Sweeteners with No Calories such as Stevia. they may not make you Fat, Ugly and Obese BUT they do nothing to reduce your Addiction to Sweet things, they just keep the Addiction going. Apply this to those Soft Drinks too. The makers proudly claim "NO Sugar", "ZERO Sugar" but they don't want you to stop drinking them so they sweeten them artificially to maintain Your Addiction to Sweet things.

Hi, my name is Alisha, and I am dealing with weight gain and I exercise a lot. What are some ways that I can lose weight?
writerrochelle
This is how I lost: Lower daily intake of calories (1200 for me at 5'2"), drink something HOT every 2 hours (tea, coffee, lemonade, and hot chocolate, at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm and 11pm for me), and only eat in an 8 hour period, fasting for 16 hours (11am breakfast, 3pm lunch and no later than 7 pm dinner for me). I can do it by drinking a hot beverage every 2 hours. I lost 1 pound a week, in 11 months, and am keeping it off, and you can, too! I'm 76! I started on February 14, 2023 and, before February 14, 2024, I had lost that 45 pounds! Oh, and I did NOT exercise, or take anything for weight loss! ;-D

I agree that you are living a clean healthy life but you are wrong when you say the majority picks on the minority as it's quite the reverse. My question is: if your partner cheated on you and you decided to give the relationship another try, would you still live with them? How would you feel? Would you completely forgive and forget? Would you be able to trust your partner like you used to?
writerrochelle
According to the Bible, adultery is grounds for divorce but, if you choose not to divorce (if you're married), it will take time living together to regain trust, and must be earned by your mate. You will have a multitude of feeling to deal with. You should be forgiving their error, but you will never forget. If you're not married, why put up with this behavior? You shouldn't be living together anyway because you are both committing fornication! ;-(

We will be going on our first cruise soon. Do any of you have a few tips about do's and don't's. What should we avoid or not miss out on? Is it good to do most activity bookings prior to the cruise, like excursions on the islands or spa treatments? Are there things to pack that they do not mention on the booking site, for example facial tissues? I would love to get some advice.
Perry 1310449
I have been on several. You can find excursions off of the ship cheaper than the excursions through the ship, but remember if you are on a ship based excursion, they will wait for you! Excursions you purchase from someone on land, they won’t wait for you, no matter the reason! Secondly, don’t buy the drink packages unless you expect to drink A LOT! I think it works out to you need to drink 15 drinks a day to pay the same amount! Yes, drinks on board will range from $11-$16 each, so take advantage of things like free juice at breakfast, along with free iced tea and coffee and hot chocolate. Steak House visits are over priced, and expensive, so leave them be, unless that is what you are going for! Main dining room food is excellent, and are covered with your cruise. They have changed sone rules there, so check when you board! Yes, you can sometimes get extra food there for free in limited amounts, like if you want an extra appetizer or dessert. But people ruined it over the years by requesting 2-3 main entrees! Like lobster and such. I ate there many times, excellent food! But smaller portions! You can go online to places like YouTube and look for videos of what each cruise line and ship offer for meals, posted by people who shared their cruise info! I highly recommend doing some early viewing! Myself, I ate many meals at the buffet on the Lido deck, or whatever deck each ship uses. LOTS OF GREAT FOOD! My wife loved the Omelette Bar! They make them to your specs in front of you. They also feature things like French toast, hot cakes, scrambled eggs with inclusions for breakfast, as well as toast, bagels, sliced meats like ham, salami, chicken and Turkey, cheeses, in case you just want to make a quick sandwich before an excursion? You will probably gain a few pounds on the cruise unless you really watch yourself! 😂😂. Unless you REALLY want them, stay away from the photographers! Sometimes those cute pictures you had taken on the boarding ramp, Formal Night, and by the dozens of photographers on the ship, can run into the $20-$30 range EACH. SO UNLESS YOU PLAN ON $500 worth of pictures coming home with you, beware! Sign up for the tip package before you embark! You are still expected to tip your room steward, etc., but you can base that on how good (or bad) they helped you out! Everything on board will be charged to your room account. And everything is expensive, so watch yourself unless money is not an object. A candy bar in one of the stores can cost $4-5 each instead of $1.50-2 at home. One of the places I never miss, us sone ships gave a candy store! It also has a few things like stuffed animals, drinks, etc. yes it us expensive, as in $7-8 a quarter pound! But I like ut because I can buy 2-3 of these wrapped candies, 4-5 or those, a quarter cop of M&Ms. They put them in a sip lock bag usually, so I leave them in my cabin, so at night if I get a tiny sweet tooth attack, I can eat a few and ve satisfied, rather than calling room service. They DO have room service, but remember the menu us limited, expensive, and you are expected to tip! Make sure to pack things like Sun block if you are going to Mexico or Bahamas, headache medicine, and any prescriptions you have. They do have some of those things available in a place or two on board, and if you go off ship, there are usually places like a Walmart or grocery store locally, but never expect there will be when you need them! And depending on where you travel, again, prices can be cheaper or more expensive! Our last cruise was to Alaska. And there, a $5 bottle of aspirin can be upwards to $15. A $2.50 bag of candy can be $15. I have to take my CPAP, but they don’t let you bring things like extension cords, electric fans, coffee pots, etc. on board, because everything us on the same circuit! If something shorts out, it can damage thousands if dollars worth of electronics! And you can be accountable for those costs! What else…if you are late fir your ship, you get left there and have to figure out how to get to your next destination, incurring more costs! Some people like to bring things to decorate their doors or room, so that is an option! Especially if it is something special, like your anniversary or honeymoon! My daughter, with kids, brings cheap but strong magnetic hooks from Amazon or Walmart that she can tie string to and hang swimming suits to dry, or decorations for the room. The walls are usually magnetic in your room, so makes it easy to put up and take down with no damage. There is a closet in your room, usually just 2-3 feet wide for hanging dresses, shirts, slacks, and the like. And usually a very small safe, usually about 8-10 inches wide, 6-7 inches high and 6 inches or so deep, so you can keep passports if you need them for your cruise, there so you don’t have to carry them around! In some instances you need to take your shipboard ID as well as your passport to check back in when you return from an off board excursion. And they can and will check pkges at times. You aren’t allowed to bring alcohol on board. So if you do, or you buy bottles on the ship, They will be sent to the pursers office to be kept safely for you until debarkation at home! They wa t you to buy their booze! lol. You are usually allowed to bring one case of coke or Pepsi or whatever when you arrive. If you want water bottles, you can purchase them before or after you arrive onboard. Just call the front desk or visit them. If you do need an extension cord or fan for your room, they can supply them for you. The same for power strips! They don’t trust power strips you bring on board, so do not pack them! My wife and I always ask for one, because unless you are in a suite, there is generally only one outlet in your cabin! So with 2 iPhones, an iPad, chargers for camera batteries, yes, my lovely wife is an avid amateur photographer, we need much more than one! I hope that helps you a little. And hope you didn’t get bored listening to me rant! God Bless and watch over you on your trip!😜

While growing up during the Cold War, I was repeatedly taught that a big difference between us and the USSR was that the USSR banned books while we, in the free world, wouldn't do such a thing. Today, we are seeing many books banned in parts of America. Personally, I never thought that I'd see the day when books would be banned in America!

A relative received insurance money for stolen jewellery. She was instructed to go to a particular store on the Central Coast in NSW to buy replacement jewellery. Many of the items stolen were heirlooms, so it was going to be heartbreaking. At the store, she noticed there was a half-price sale. Was she lucky this time? Not really. The store manager claimed that it was policy for Jewellers to charge full price for items bought with insurance money, even though...

The word is GREED. Greed has been expanded like never before. What the jeweller did was patently Dishonest. Without exception ALL Insurance is Grand Scale Larceny by ALL Insurance companies . One huge Multi-national group operating in Australia, IAG, which Victorians should get to know, controls RACV's Insurance, has just announced a 79% Increase in Profit from the House Insurance Division of their business to over $AU1.4 BILLION. In the same breath they announced they are INCREASING House Insurance Premiums by 11 %! Almost 4 times the CPI. They also announced an Increase in the Profit they made from their Motor Vehicle Insurance division. If this massive increase in House Insurance premiums is not Price Gouging or Profiteering I would like to know what else it is. It is beyond time the federal Government stepped in and regulated the Insurance industry and if that means regulating Premiums so be it. Even better would be a Taxpayer Owned Insurance Company, one which, unlike Medibank, could never, ever be sold off to Private Enterprise. We all saw what happened when the then Federal Government sold Medibank to Private Enterprise. Medibank Ltd. became the Leading Force in Raising Private Health Insurance Premiums.
The boss of IAG used lots of weasel words to justify those House Insurance Ppremiums Increases. No-one, least of all the ABC's Sarah Ferguson on the ABC's 7:30 Report last night, believed a word he said.
Insurance is nothing more than a Gigantic scam.

Now you need a minimum of 6-8 letters with numericals, upper case, lower case, symbols, can't re-use old passwords, etc. I can spend up to half an hour trying to come up with a password that a website accepts & one that I will remember. Then by the time I have come up with my unique never used before password, I promptly forget it. Then the cycle starts all over again. Yes, I write them down. And what I mess my notebook looks like!

How much theft would there be if otherwise law-abiding citizens were to quit buying stolen items?

There will always be thieves, as some do it because they feel others have more than them even if it is not to on sell. Seems those who can't be bothered to either work and/or save for what they want will steal because of their warped sense of 'entitlement'

Unfortunately some people were more interested in getting home than making the right choices. I take pride in saying I stuck to my beliefs and acquitted a young man accused of wrongdoing. The judge was pleased with the verdict. I was very proud of the decision and outcome. Not everyone is cut out for this service but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I know, I know,...we have all the drama...its going to be MUCH worse than the Spanish Flu...isn't it?...America has rallied..the rest of us are lucky....My relatives overseas have all survived...we are going through a MASSIVE part of history...this is a community...talk to us about you are coping
Imperia S '' PIER''
I am rather a bit of a panic merchant, so I am always on edge, and with all that is going on in the world, I thank my lucky stars that I am or rather seem to be coping, however this latest argument between Isreal, and who ever plays on mind as I don't want our kids to be part of any wars

In the past five years, I've noticed my city has become more populated. It is causing congestion with traffic. Also, the grocery stores are over packed, and I'm finding that the foods I usually purchase are becoming less available. Is anyone else living in the Hamilton area noticing this?
Benz
The elites can make you believe anything when they claim to control almost every global media outlet.
The flood of migrants is a deliberate method of the elite to cause division amongst people so they fight one another.
Why would they want this?
They want you so distracted with all the problems like cost of living, housing crisis, business failures, destruction of the food chain, global warming lies, overpopulation so they can take your land and then lock you up in "smart cities/prisons".
These smart cities are run by Artificial intelligence and track and trace your every move to ensure you exist within their strict carbon efficient guidelines every second of your life.
If you step out of line you will be punshished through the digital social credit system. They may choose to reduce your food allowance, travel restrictions or maybe force you to be re-educated in a strict facility......who knows?
These smart cities are already in operation in China.

I am calling it a deep cleaning of my house. I am getting rid of anything I have acquired over the 20 years living here, donating to worthy causes, and making my house easier to clean at the same time. Likewise, I wondered, what do others think of this idea?
Buttonpops
I'm attempting to do this too. We have such a small house and often trip over things left on the floor. We dont have any broom cupboards or linen cupboards or a garage so things get stored inside.

One day chocolate was suddenly poisonous to dogs (that would have been a surprise to my first three dogs who ate it and lived until at least 13 year of age)...best buy them dog treats at $10 a packet... AND you should not give them sticks or bits of wood they may splinter and be swallowed (but you can buy a stick shaped dog toy...made of wood...in the supermarket...for only $19!!)...oh and bones...cooked or uncooked...can splinter and be swallowed too now...or damage...

Yes it's a big business - and don't forget the flea shampoos and heartworm tablets and doggies day care centres and vet bills that are more expensive than human services.

Women who have Caesarean births in Scotland go home on the second day of the birth. This is a financial decision, not a medical one. Surely, the care of the mother and child should be paramount. I was concerned when I heard this. Do you think this is going too far in the cost-cutting exercise, potentially putting patients at risk?
Liane H
Absolutely disgraceful. Higher risk of post natal depression and undiagnosed versions of it ...
Why put so much pressure on new mums ? Day 3 is the worst day after birth for the baby blues to set in and milk production to come in properly ,then complications can arise ... that is all just after a natural childbirth!

Has political correctness gotten to a stage where it is more harmful to society than it is helpful. Everyone seems to be so easily offended by the most silliest of things and people seem to be bending over backwards to appease what are often minority groups.
BLM
It is not political correctness that got us in this MESS - it is racism and sexism that got us in this MESS!! Everybody says honest is the BEST policy - but nobody actually practices honesty.

Never judge a man (or woman) until you realize the (or lack of) choices that man (or woman) had available at that life-changing moment. Or are you the type that goes with the current and that ship (moment) has sailed (and you are always RIGHT)?

It must be well past your nap time M1364377...your comments and calling people B****es and retard is inappropriate and offensive. I hope you are removed from here by the time you wake up and are packing your lunch for school.

I am unhappy about some people in there that think that everyone has to say congrats, well done, etc. Some people just want to sit and play without chatting. You think it's rude that if someone does not acknowledge your win, you take offence. YOU!! DO NOT know what is going on in someone's life. Maybe they can't type, maybe they are shy, maybe they have a mental illness you know nothing of. To turn sour on someone just because they do not comment is just plain...
Smiley
OK, well there are a lot of comments for this discussion. You have certainly got the members chatting Julz.
I am a fairly regular player of BINGO here , i have only played it a few times in real life.
I am by no means a retired older citizen though, but i do enjoy the interaction with the others who play and chat.
I admit that my Mental Health isn't as healthy as it could be and i am doing what i can to better that- playing bingo and interacting with others is one of the things that helps my situation.
I have very few friends left in real life, i have got to "know" people here and they seem like lovely people. Would i willingly want to meet each and every person in real life? Possibly not, Am i happy to chat to them most days about life in general, or share a joke, some trivia or a favourite song? Yeah- no harm there.
NO one can please everyone all of the time, someone will find issues with the way something is typed or said even if no harm was meant from it. (And yes, i did leave the word "no" in capitals just to show that i'm not perfect with my grammar, etc but it doesn't make me any less of a person either.)
The chat in Bingo is something we can all contribute to or not join in. Either way, it shouldn't matter.
I thought you seemed like a nice person from the chats you contributed to over the time you've played in the bingo rooms.
We all have good days and bad days. Days when we feel like a chat and days where we just want to play and not add to the chat.
I know i do. Somedays i'll chat more than play and those days i usually haven't had much interaction with the outside world at all, so this is a way for me to have some adult chats, not just thinking monologues in my head or talking to my children.
I hope you're keeping well Julz and know that whether it is in Bingo, the general discussion or elsewhere- if you ever wish to chat, there will always be someone around ready to reply and chat with you. <3
I have seen some filthy language used from time to time, but not for quite a while now thankfully. It is nothing that i haven't heard before though. Keyboard warriors are often just cowards who think typing something mean or hurtful helps to make them feel like a bigger person, but we all know that's not the case.

A lot of people these days are suffering from bad mental health, and people don't even realise. People with bad mental health will usually isolate themselves from others, and just want to be alone, even though what they need is to talk to someone. We should check that everyone is ok, because trust me, having bad mental health is like living a nightmare. What is your opinion on this topic?
Katzeye
I have a niece that has mental issues which are quite severe to the stage where she has attempted to take her life multiple times but luckily failed however she has also very much mutilated herself at the same time. She is now 21 and still has major relapses of self mutilation. Many of our family have tried to reach out to her over the years including myself and she has even been in respite care institutions. It is really sad because she is a lovely young lady with so much potential to make something of herself but over here in NZ the mental health system has failed her as well as many others and that is only half the problem. Many so called professionals said there is nothing wrong with her and it is all to do with attention seeking but this was recently proven wrong as she has now been diagnosed with border line personality disorder which is one of the most commonly misdiagonsed mental health conditions out there.

Is it just me, or is retail shopping getting worse and worse? I used to love going shopping and looking at the variety of clothes, bedding, or furniture and going online and scrolling through the huge varierty of cheap sales. Now, I find it so monotonous. There s no variety in anything anymore, most of the clothes are the same top in the same fabric but, it might come in 5 different colours. The furniture is all cheap but, they re on sale for what they re actually worth.. it s...

I used to like shopping.
I would plan a Saturday thrifting, hidden items, .50c for a pretty trinket was fun.
Now seems nearly impossible and just no fun.
I do you like temu, that one's fun and I've won quite a few things free shipping just for playing games.. At the end of the day I think shoppers would like to feel rewarded for thier experience.

Kids are way too young to understand the pressure and expectations that come with being judged on their looks. You think toddlers should be strutting around in sequins and fake smiles? You re teaching them that their worth is tied to appearance self-esteem issues. Not ignoring the toxic environment of the absurdity, can a toddler understand the concept of beauty and competition? They can t even tie their shoes yet! You re setting them up for failure by putting them in a situation...

Beauty pageants have been around for many years especially in the USA and mothers are really competitive to the detriment of their children. I have to agree with Christina, competition with kids, their birthday parties, etc. is all to do with the parent/s whereas children generally just want to have fun with their friends. We used to call it keeping up with the Jonses, now it is way out of control.
Putting little children in full makeup, hair, expensive outfits is just sickening.

I see lots of people wearing jackets that are warm and puffy, but should we be wearing them? I think not. I have heard of many bad incidents with puffer jacket. My friend got roasted in their puffer jacket, it caught on fire, and it couldn't be put out, the jacket burnt too quick. Another friend of mine went missing in their jacket, was never found. RIP Jimmy. And I have also had a bad experience with puffer jackets. At school, everyone wore raincoats and I had a...

Check the label! Here in Canada, the law says that the manufacturer must declare how flammable a garment is. Look for the fire code on the garment. I don't know where you are "hearing" all these complaints but they are quite probably bogus. What does a jacket have to do with someone going missing? If they had a different kind of jacket they would never, ever disappear? And "The Human Torch"? What was that person doing so carelessly around a fire in the first place?
These examples sound like a conspiracy theory because some misguided 'influencer' doesn't like the style of jacket.

Would you eat insects? Companies are incorporating insects into food products. I have seen cricket crackers, chocolates made with ants, and bugs used for food colouring. Many of these food items are aimed at appealing to younger consumers. Even schools are offering insect snacks. What are your thoughts? Are you eager to eat or bake using insects?
lippy loo
No I think it is rank. Yes some countries / cultures eat insects, spiders and anything basically that walks the earth including dogs, cats, whales, dolphins, monkeys, birds, fish, in fact all wild life even if some are dangerous and life threatening. Now, companies want us to eat insects and down the track a few years we will be called out for diminishing the insects of the world.
The methane can be controlled from cattle, giraffes, elephants, sheep etc. by just adding a tiny bit of a certain seaweed that can be cultivated at a minimal cost but I guess the acreage can produce more vegetables and so a higher financial yield and hence the BS about us needing all to go vegan and eat insects.
Give me my meat any day. We developed eating meat which made our brains smarter. Maybe due to less meat being eaten, this is why people are becoming so much more stupider these days.

Daily Poll Losing interest with surveys 1 . Completely enjoy from start to finish 2. Start losing interest half way 3. Don't finish them 4. Get sick of the same question being asked again and again but in a slightly different way 5. Stop doing surveys because of questions 6. Other reasons 7. Prefer not to answer

Now they are asking for installation of a User Zoom device, invasive questions about your banking accounts, access to mobile advertising, access to TV subscription data, ask you to go to sites and lie to get dummy insurance policies etc. They then pay you a reward not compatible with an award basic wage, screen you out for no reason at the end of a survey, even when you send in a screen shot saying that you have completed the survey, they pay only a pittance. I keep hoping for the days when I joined up of receiving much better points than now. The Co-vid crisis is long over. How much is Rewardia getting for every survey we do? I suspect we are only receiving a very small percentage of what is actually paid.

We have really good dog like robots...ones like birds...and otters. Why not make robots TO hunt? Some people are totally obsessed with outsmarting and killing things....some people have stopped eating animals...why not stop killing them for no reason too? We could even make smarter "animals" that would make "hunting" more exciting for those with guns....they could be disabled and "die"...then just restarted for the next "hunt". What do you think about that?
Pato Lo Duck
Great idea, then we could have a robotic duck season and I wouldn’t have to hide in my nest anymore…

I have been searching for a job, for about 6 months now, with the same result every time I've applied. One of the main requirements when applying for a job is having a driver's license. I haven't been able to get my driver's license for a number of personal reasons, but this has restricted me to jobs that I'm not interested in. What should I do about this?
Katzeye
Same thing has happened to my son, always asked about drivers license.I suspect it's so the business knows they can rely on you to get to work and on time.A lot of people take public transport now rather than drive to work but they don't seem to take that in to consideration.

I have seen a lot of these products on the shelves what is up with inventors they come up with odd things which are not safe for children at any age I saw a cotton candy flavoured putty or something which I don't think is safe for kids and a lady had chap stick or lipstick which is not safe for kids and the mom gave it to her 6-year-old. What do you think?

I grew up in the 80s and all our toys were hazards. I had a barbie once, roller blading barbie, she had flints on her rollerblades, so I'd drag her across the floor or carpet and sparks would shoot out! I can't imagine something like that being sold today haha!

My problem is that I always forget to eat lunch. I'm not hungry, and I get busy during the day. My meter is happy, though. I googled to see how many meals we should eat each day, and it varies. I've read articles saying we could just eat one big meal each day. I've read articles saying we should eat 6 small meals a day. How many meals do you eat? Do you think eating only breakfast and dinner is a bad thing? Or should we beat eating 5 or 6 times a day. How often do...

I admit, I have a smoothie nearly every morning for breakfast. I often have a quiche or peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and meat and vegies for dinner, (about 3 x a week) I recently read the Whole meal Bread with Smooth peanut butter, No sugar/salt, actually helps your weight and digestion when eaten before bed. So that's my new favorite bedtime snack. It seems to help. Ive been dieting for 6 months. I lost 25 kgs but am a bit stuck for loosing the last 20-15 kgs. In the last month, Ive gone back up 1 kg...grrr... AnY tips? Im trying to Eat Less and Move More.

The athletes are representing Australia. The Govt. spends money like water in parliament house and members' offices, accommodation, Government House luxuries like new furniture, dinner sets etc because the new Govt. General doesn't like the look of the old.which could be better spent on essential services. Why not promote Australia??

Considering the shortage of tradesmen and other educated people, should post-secondary training and education be free?
MoB
Education is never free, the question should be, should taxpayers pay for all education or should parents pay for some of the education their children get.
