It's never too late to start, but you should focus on finding your purpose and life task that is relevant to a certain job. Perhaps you're really good with numbers and need to be an Accountant or Financial advisor. Or you have a lot of empathy and love helping people, and perhaps should become a Therapist. What would your advice? Is it OK to start life at 40?

No, I restarted life at age 35 and now I am 75 years young and have been forced in 2008 at age 59 into an early retirement. I do online surveys to augment my stipends of SS and pension each month (Less than $1700 of which rent is $700).

2025 is one of those rare years that is mathematically special in a number of ways. 2025 = 45 x 45 2025 = (20 + 25) x (20 + 25) 2025 = (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9) x (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9) 2025 = (1 x 1 x 1) + (2 x 2 x 2) + (3 x 3 x 3) + (4 x 4 x 4) + (5 x 5 x 5) + (6 x 6 x 6) + (7 x 7 x 7) + (8 x 8 x 8) + (9 x 9 x 9) More complicated mathematical reasons...

What are your plans for 2025? I try not to make resolutions as they never stick... 2025 for us is going to be all about getting back to basics, decluttering and minimising how much "stuff" we have around us and what comes into the house ... With the cost of living these days going up and up, we need to find better ways to deal with what we have and use each week. Cooking more at home, buying less stuff and making more space in our lives for each...

I suppose I got a bit of a head start on everybody else. Earlier this month I moved interstate back to sunny Victoria( well sometimes it is). I left a d.v relationship with basically my clothes and my youngest son and his things to be with family. So decluttering DONE. Now just focusing on my health mental and physical as well as slowly saving to replace all I left behind. Pretty proud of myself at this point as I thought previously the only way I would get out was in a wooden box. I look forward to a better year than many more previous ones.i know for sure it can't possibly be worse. For the first time in quite I while I love my life. Hope everyone else out there has a reason to smile this coming New Year and sees us all better off than the last.

Can anybody quote some of Murphy's laws and rules. Such as, Never argument with an idiot as people may not be able to tell who is the idiot. The golden rule, he who has the gold make the rules. And there are many more that I can t think of right now.
Andrew C 287196
The most famous Murphy's Law is (as others have said below): "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" or similar wording.
But there are quite a few other "Murphy's Laws" as well, although whether or not they were all actually said by Edward A. Murphy Jr. or just other people making up their own, is unknown. There's a long list at https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~fgandon/miscellaneous/murphy/

Everything that does our thinking for us, including calculators, and that's quite a long list. When we quit using our God given brains, and let machines do our thinking and creating for us, we're dehumanizing ourselves. You may agree to disagree, but please be kind. My favorite TV series is 'The Night Stalker' (1974 - 1975). My second favorite TV series is 'The Prisoner' (1967 - 1968). My third favorite TV series is 'The Avengers' starring Honor Blackman (1961 - 1964) - she left the series after the third season. The TV series 'The Avengers' ran from 1961 - 1969!

My whole family were fans of the "Vera" series. I've seen some of them again recently and found them much more "real" than any of the new cop series. Seems just like what has happened to the ABC. They take away more and more of their funding and they can't afford good writers and actors to play them. My brother-in-law still chortles over " Fawlty Towers", and "Life of Brian" endlessly.

Working too hard - it s true, we all seem to be chasing something. More money, higher status, the plush corner office, you name it. I see so many people trading countless hours of their lives to buy stuff they don t want to impress people they really don t like. End this madness. Invest in yourself. Take a break. Go on a vacation. Life is too short! What would you say? What are some bad habits people develop in their 30s?

Hi I would like to discuss climate change, I am really sorry for bringing up this topic, I realise everybody is sick of all the news about this problem, but if man does not get it together in this lifetime recycle, garbage in our oceans, littering, cutting down our beautiful forests just to built luxury homes, protect our waterways for our water fowl, just think about what we are leaving the next generation GOOD LUCK with that.

I believe climate change us being blown out of proportion. Yes there are some issues tha definitely need to be addressed but it's not the gloom and doom certain people are saying. Gender is not the issue, more like family dynamics is the issue combined with the stereotyping of males. Furthermore, your sample size is too small to draw valid conclusions on gender. In addition, under the scenario you described you can draw invalid generalizations about males. Which has led to the 'myth' of girls (women) are more responsible than boys (men)...hm - even in these politically correct times - males are winning custody of their child or children from their ex-wives - for the first time - in the history of democracies!

I just did a survey where they clearly expected you to be paying monthly fees for a whole range of services. From the software you use...for all the music you listen to...to all you watch TV or your movies....leasing cars is another big contender too even for your food...REALLY! It's been gently gradual, and met no resistance so far. Easy money ... it's a perfect Corporate Future ... we are always in their debt, and we own nothing. THAT'S why they are...
Liberti_Jones
It is what the new world order wants but they are unrealistic in that many people are on low incomes and are not going to be able to afford their fees. There will be push back and there will be refusal and making do and doing without. Some of us lived without cellphones, and computers for several decades and we can do it again. We have skills and knowledge that will help us get by. People in the city and burbs will be more controlled but a lot of rural areas are left and people are not going to move willing into the city or suburbs. We will survive There has actually been resistance in some regions and areas around the globe. People can live without a lot of things they think they need but they are just wants not needs however if they don't have the skills, knowledge and wisdom they will not do so well. We will have a cashless society soon and the NWO will implement compliance or we cannot buy or sell. But there is barter and trade. Many people will not survive and die. Some from famine /starvation, some from diseases and sickness, some will be enslaved, some murdered. Some from floods, and hurricanes and bad weather or fires. NWO wants 15-30 minute cities as well. We might not have electricity to play movies or music. Better buy books, games, cards, and musical instrumants that can be utilized for entertainment. Learn to can, dry and preserve what food you can and to gather food as well. I know and have those skills and knowledge as do my adult children and some of my grandchildren as well. Do you know edible wild food and what is poison or not. Yes mushrooms, berries, catkins, and how to fix them. Wild game as well is another thing to trap or use other means for food, having a water source that is year around is also imperative. Do you know how to make food from scratch? Beans and Legumes and Rice and Oatmeal and Cornmeal or something you will need and flour, honey, sugar, salt, spices, Canned foods of various type and dried goods. Peanut butter and canned milk, powdered milk. Pastas are all important. The only perfection is for the elite wealthy everyone else will be their servants this has been desired for a couple centuries to get back to Lords, Ladies, Kings, Queens, Royalty and serfs and peon's. If you refuse they will consider you a criminal and you better know how to survive. They will leave some alone to the elements thinking they will die but not everyone will there will be survivors. The so called future the powers that be desire will not last they have never lasted. They will be overthrown an conquered as well. If you have no faith or belief you will comply if you have a faith you will survive and will not comply. It is not paranoia it is being prepared and ready for anything.

Parental/carer mental ill health can, in some circumstances, lead to an inability to look after the child's physical and emotional wellbeing. This is often for a short temporary period, however for some individuals it can be more prolonged. What is your experience? How does a parent's poor mental health affect a child?
Bugalugs
Of course it does. it can lead to neglect, wsexual, physical and mental abuse. Of course things like alcohol and drugs don't help do they? We have an increasing problem in which children, some as young as 9 years old, are roaming the streets late at night committing crimes, being arrested and then the bleeding hearts come out and accuse the Police and all but those responsible for the problem!
The Police and othes are so scared of being accused of racism that they dare not ask the Most Important Question of All.
Where are the Parents whilst their children are running amok?
I'll tell you where they are. They are at home blind drunk or drugged, both are mental health issues.

We drink it. We bath in it. We wash our clothes with it! The UNITED NATIONS says, by 2050, around 5 Billion people could face water shortages. Everyday in rich countries like Australia, we take water too much for granted. In times of drought we probably appreciate water more, when there is less rain. How do you think your nation would cope if you had to drastically cut back on water consumption?
Bugalugs
It is easy to not use water if you just think a bit. Yes, the makers of automatic dishwashers try to convince you that they use less water than Hand washing but then they would wouldn't they? They are trying to sell them. Do you really need to Pre-Rinse dishes before putting them into that Water and Energy sapping machine? Do you Really need to have your dishes sterilised? Do you really need to have them heated to boiling point to dry them? The answer is: NO. We wash our dishes ONCE a day, by hand and we use, at most 8 litres of water and enough Energy to have the Water at about 45C.

United Nation should involve in imposing laws or make amendment to existing laws to look after endangered species of wildlife both on land and in the sea. People from all over the world are killing these endangered animals just to make money. Does having snow at Christmas make it more like Christmas for you, or does it really matter? I am from the Caribbean and enjoyed the warmth at Christmas. I have always said crooks are really dumb. To prove my point, people shoplift and them brag about it on social media. They also break the law in other ways and either brag to their friends and get turned in or involve people in the crime who can't keep their mouths shut. Crime doesn't pay any way you look at it because if someone does get away with it for a while they won't stop when they have enough because they will never have enough.

WHITE-COLLAR-CRIMINALS 'ripped' the world off for trillions of dollars - and 'none' of the money was recovered. Furthermore, in the late 19th century - ROBBER BARONS' stole and looted a country in broad daylight for decades - it is known as USA these days, and ROBBER BARONS are known as OLD MONEY these days. History has proved on numerous occasions that WHITE-COLLAR-CRIMINALS - always get away with the money and NEVER get CAUGHT! Other words - crime pays very WELL - lol!

Has anyone noticed that the weather outside is colder than usual for this time of year, especially here in California where I live? It feels like I m living in Wisconsin, where it s not sunny most of the time. Even when the sun comes out, it s not hot. Winters in Wisconsin often reach 50 below zero, and the weather can change dramatically it might rain, then shine, and then snow, which is quite strange. Also, I really dislike group homes and their regulations....

Hello Lisa thank you for the Californian weather perspective. In Melbourne the weather is similar, it's colder and hotter during this time of the year, than the past few years. When is it time for an elderly person to be in aged care? Should it be up to the person themselves, or should their children help them decide? My Dad lives on his own and is happy, but he has recently had a fall, and I am not sure if I am happy about him being alone. What do you think?

We used to have milk bottles that were washed out, refilled and used for years (delivered on electric floats to your door) TVs, fridges, computers, household appliances ... shoes and clothes ... that were easy to repair and lasted for many years, if not forever. Now we have very cheaply made rubbish (often from our friends in China) that has to be thrown away when it stops working or wears out ... it is either impossible to fix or just massively cheaper to buy a new one...
Rod R 101788
The 2 are not necessarily the same things. Many houses used to reuse supermarket shopping bags as rubbish bags. Now we buy rubbish bags that can be made of recycled materials but still can't be recycled.
The laminate on the kitchen & bathroom benches in the house we rent are fading where they get wet, but my parents' kitchen benches were solid wood & lasted for more than 40 years.
I still use my Dads electric drill & it still works because the only plastic parts are the trigger & handle cover. It has outlasted 2 rechargeable drills.
The handsaw I use has a wooden handle & I sharpen the blade with a file.
Apparently I recently "upcycled" an old solid wood door we bought to replace a broken modern one. It's still being used as a door - it's been refurbished & reused, same as my Grandmothers' dresser made in 1908.
Some things are made to last & some aren't, it's all about money, sometimes for multi-national multi-million dollar companies yet most people reading this rant aren't millionaires.

The subject of shells was raised on this site, with some people feeling all shells should be left at the beach. I returned from overseas once and had to go through immigration and customs in Darwin, where the customs officers walked along the line of passengers with a large plastic bin asking for shells and coral. I guess we all think that way at some stage in life. We have not moved mountains so we think we have not achieved success however success is not based on what we have not done. Success is being happy. Success is confidence. Success is raising healthy kids. Success is much more than being top of the class. Success is getting through life in one piece and so much more.

There are a few countries that provide school children with free food. Even teachers are allowed to have it too. However, so many developed countries don't intend to do it. What is your opinion? A friend did this: She got a piece of paper and folded it in half and anytime she thought of a reason to have children, she wrote it down on one side. And anytime she thought of a reason not to have children, she would write it on the other. When she had her doubts about not having children, she would look at the list, and it would remind her that the decision she made not to have children was right for her. Any advice? Will I regret not having kids when I get older?
Dee Jay QLD Oz
I won’t comment on whether people should or shouldn’t have children. It’s very much a personal choice. I’m a Baby Boomer, now 66. I still clearly remember the day my in-laws visited, and MIL announced in no uncertain terms that couples who decided not to have children were the most selfish people in the world. I was 25 at the time, and had been married 6 years. We went on to have children, but I was disappointed that she had voiced her view in such a way, and created an “expectation” in our relationship. Children are everywhere (nieces, nephews, children living in care, neighbours, friends’ children ….. ), you can quite easily have children in your life that aren’t your own, and they are just as special.

I am 64 and have been "online" for at least 30 years now. These are a few of the positives for me: Connection with family and friends, especially when the connections cannot be in person. Women have come a long way from being thought of as 2nd class citizens. I am all for all the gains we have made. Women are leaders in all aspects of life, Be it politics, business or generally in the work force. But I can't help but feel we have also lost so much. Such as self-respect and respect from our male counterparts. We can swear as good as any man! Not so sure if this is a good thing! Men never used to swear in front of woman, but now it seems...
Michelle S 553303
I truly believe that women in general have less rights now than they did when I was growing up in the 1960's. My mother was able to stay home and raise my brother and I and not forced to leave her home AND her children to afford the mortgage money for the house my father and her purchased together. They had 2 solid years working together at a factory before my mother fell pregnant with me and retired from the paid workforce and she was able to rest during her pregnancy and prepare for my arrival enjoying that time. Even on one income back then we had meat every night for dinner because back then you could afford it, not now! My mother taught me SO many valuable lessons of how to cook well but cheaply, how to sew and how to run a home. I, however, did not think that these lessons were valuable until I got older and unfortunately I bought into the feminist hype of the working woman being able to "do it all"! Absolute BS BTW as all I did was get on a treadmill for 25 years without stopping trying to be everything that my changing society told me was my right but ultimately missing out on some of the most important things in my 5 children's lives. I sent them along to Daycare because I was told it was as good as me caring for them and they'd be well socialised, but they cried when I left them and I abandoned them to a place of noise and no love. They will say to me today "Mum, do you remember when" or "do you remember so and so" and I have no recollection of those events or people because my headspace and I were somewhere else. I wish that I had realised the feminist lies back then and stayed at home raising my children myself and teaching them things of value. You can NEVER reclaim those moments you lost and I regret it deeply. I believe that we are less "women" now than we were before we had the right to choose whether or not to bring to term the children we carried in our wombs and we started trying so dang hard to be as good as men when we already were but in a different way! We got robbed of a lot of simple pleasures of watching our children play or having kids come home with our kids and ask to play in the backyard because there was always someone home back then. These days women, mothers especially, have to coordinate schedules and are often absent from the home and need to organise formal play dates with the other equally busy and exhausted parents of their child's friends. If THIS is what was meant by "progress" for women then we collectively were sold a lemon! Thanks for reading.

I can't talk about everyone, I can talk only about myself. Marriage has proven itself as a dangerous institution to me. It puts me in a situation in which my boundaries are not honoured, and I lose control over my salary, I am expected to accept someone else s religion, and do everything he says. I think college, trades, and university will become a thing of the past - when AI reaches its full potential. I think going into the military for twenty years and getting a livable pension will become the norm - as their will be more wars over dwindling natural resources and ever-increasing population. Also, becoming a police officer will become your second mandatory option for twenty years which will give you another livable pension - crowd control will become an issue as the fight for dwindling natural resources will become more intensified with an ever-increasing population. The not-so-distant future will be a dark and ugly place for the overwhelming majority of people - not because of AI - but because humans are incapable of learning from our past mistakes and our luck as a specie will finally RUN OUT!

Our new neighbour is in his mid 80s and is up every morning at 6 am. He starts cutting wood to burn and disturbs us early in the morning. As we are new in the neighbourhood, we do not want to cause any trouble, so we remain quiet. Would you ask the elderly man not to cut wood so early because it disturbs you, or would you stay quiet?

This is hard for you. I avoid confronting people even in a nice way. Invite him in for a coffee and have a general get to know you chat. He might explain why he does it so early and every day without you even asking him. If he is doing it every day then he must not be doing it for very long. It might be a routine from an earlier part of his life. I can’t imagine he needs to do it every morning. In a general friendly chat you might be able to suggest he only does it once a week. Just do the get to know you first before you leap in and contact the council or start to tell your neighbour to change his ways. I feel for you. This could become increasingly more irritating.

loved watching the Brits waving their Union Flag.... Yes Flag, not Union Jack, it is only the Union Jack when it's flown from a jackstaff. But, it's easy to get the Union Flag wrong way up, and many of the Brits waved it wrong way up. A national flag flown upside down is a distress signal.. So was their waving their national flag upside down a prescient signal of distress....? Or just plain ignorance?

Hopefully the government / city councils in New Zealand are not stupid enough to bother with hosting the next one here. This type of event is nothing but a waste of tax-payer money - I don't think *any* have ever made a profit for the host country (partly due to the massive amount of money wasted getting ready for them), that's why the Commonwealth Games struggled to find a host city / country.

All throughout our lives, we are always getting advice given to us by others, whether we ask for it or not. Though some advice given to us is not very good, there are a few pieces that someone passes along to you that are actually really good, but we still decide to not follow it and end up regretting not following the advice later down the line ...

When I first joined the Navy, my mother told me to save a deposit and buy a house in Devonport on the north shore of Auckland and get flatmates in to help pay the mortgage. At 19, the last thing I wanted was a $200,000 mortgage!!! Those $200,000 houses are now worth in excess of $3mil.

It is something that Brands REALLY want to know...you know brands, right? They used to make things and were responsible for them...now they outsource the manufacturing process to someone else ... make MASSES of money ... sell you T-Shirts with their name on them (in the 1970s these were given away) and try desperately to make themselves cool and trendy by spending millions of dollars on sponsorship and advertising. Vacuous...like the Emperor's...

The Australian Government appears to be investigating whether they can introduce floor pricing to the sale of alcohol...at a minimum $1.50 per standard drink....they say that this will stop the sale of cheap drinks...which they argue cause most related problems to drinking...however due to massive taxes which go up annually...the only drink this will affect is wine...leaving the cheapest bottle wine costing $10.50.....NOW if we have to pay $10.50 for a bottle...

Kia Ora My fellow Rewardians... help me out here ? I know there have been a lot of AI discussions in daily polls/general discussions etc lately But how do we really feel about AI? Actually doing a half-arsed good job? Sometimes? I've added loads of new songs to my playlist recently, (thanks to y'all) and now I also get random suggestions of songs I might like and I'm so here for it! The songs take me back and bring me Joy ? Loving AI/Algorithms rite now...

I'm mostly worried about the children growing up with so much technology. When I subbed, I saw kindergartners given tablets to "DRAW"! What about the smell of a crayon, and learning to mix paint colors to make different ones (green+red=brown)? They aren't using their BRAINS anymore! ;-(

Artificial intelligence and robotics technology would likely improve efficiencies in the day to day management and operations, so what does that mean for us? Will roles then be less physical and more creative, and do we need to re-skill and relearn

I was looking up something tonight and thought - What have women invented? I was really surprised at their ingenuity but not surprised that men had taken the praise for some of them. Some things women invented: Windscreen Wipes, Dishwasher, rotary engine, coffee filter, disposable nappies, computer software, Wi-Fi, radioactivity, anti-fungal antibiotic, airplane muffler, Apgar score, glass aquariums, beer, Barbie doll, birth control pill, Bra, Bullet...

"Jest plain old inter sex jealousy". If you look back in history and we had been given the chance we might have helped with some of the messes men have made in the troubles and wars of yesteryear!
