I think most of the jobs that that our know senior generation did have either been taken over by technology or moved to another country because they have cheap labour. I also believe it reflects on the quality of goods we receive from other countries. In turn all these products are garbage and thrown into the dump and we wonder why we have no room left to dispose of things. I feel old saying this but things definitely aren't made the way they used to be. I feel like we need to bring these jobs back to our own countries and stop buying off shore garbage. I once read an article where some historian said he thought people were at their happiest during George Washington's time period, and I asked my uncle what he thought about that. He said he was sure a lot of people back then were happy, but probably just as many were unhappy, then said just like today there are happy people but just as many unhappy ones. I truly "LOVE" how people see jobs in trades (plumber, chippie, sparkie, gardener, etc) or retail as a lower rated job, like the people who work those jobs are a lesser person to someone who has completed many years of uni or has a high degree. If it wasn't for cleaners, retail staff, check out operators, tradies and the like, how would you be able to do your shopping or even live? You would not have a house to live in- lots of tradies helped to build the vast majority of homes we all live in, without retail staff there'd be no shops operating, without cleaning staff many businesses would be piled high in filth. I know of people who have doctorates, people who are A/Prof's who are cleaners or are doing labouring jobs or retail work as they simply cannot get work in their field, or maybe their job got too stressful, so they chose to do something completely different. These people also do a lot of volunteer work in roles some other "well educated" would not dream of doing. I think it comes down to how you are raised. If you grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth and your parents taught you to look down on those with "lesser jobs", then sadly i think it will be very hard to change how one sees and treats other people and you may struggle with life if you're thrown a curve ball. If you're raised to treat the cleaners, retail workers and garbage truck driver with respect and talk to them as a fellow equal human being, than i think you're a well rounded person who will do fine in life and be able to handle whatever the world throws their way. And just as a FYI- Plumbers and tradies do up to 4years study/on the job training. Bartenders and coffee shop workers also do a lot of training courses and need to get accreditation for some of their roles. Same with grocery store workers. Yes, it's a job where you can start with no experience, but after doing the job for a while, you will realise you deal with many different things- abusive and/or rude customers, customers who they tell their deepest secrets to, you will sometimes be the ONLY person an individual (customer) interacts with, you will form friendships with customers, you will learn a lot about how a business is run. If you study for a decade and are still miserable, was it all worth it? If you start an entry level job and thoroughly enjoy it, do you consider this to be a waste of your education or the fact you have had an amazing opportunity open up for you?

Often all we had to eat was stale bread with hot water poured over it. The more she was given the more entitled she felt. Never worked a day in her life. My brother who was 6 years and sister 5 years older than me had already been put in care because Mum could't look after them. I made up my mind when I was young that I was not going to live like that. I never smoked, started working at 14 and only brought what we could afford. Most ATM's are owned by people who buy them as an investment, they cost money to own because the Reserve Bank charges people for the money they put into ATM's so when you paid at Woollies or Coles with your phone and took out cash the costs of keeping ATM's was more than the earnings so they were removed. Don't complain, don't whinge because you brought this upon yourself. I don't have a smartphone, I don't trust them, especially with my personal banking. Apps aren't as secure as websites, not your side but the other end and people you interact with. I still use the website but my bank is trying to close it and push me off onto an app of course because it's cheaper, but I'm not going without a loud noise. Not everyone wants to bank online, some people forget how to do things online as they age, some people aren't as capable as others to go online or on an app so Banks should be somewhat responsible for pushing everyone online where they get ripped off or scammed. It's too late now the horse has bolted, you chose a machine and technology over a person. I'll use technology when it's a benefit but I MUCH prefer to deal with a real live person, I queue at the checkout to keep the checkout person employed and I like to shop in stores to keep the sales people employed. Any business that tries to push me into having a smartphone I ditch because I don't want one or the apps they insist I need. Every action has consequences and not using people results in no people being required. Think about that the next time you use serf service.

When I trained as an EN (Enrolled Nurse) in the early 1990's I was paid for the entire year, whether it was a study day or a working on the ward day. As a newly divorced mother with 3 young children I could not have done it if I had to pay for it instead of being paid. Having hands on training is best for good patient care. Years later so many times young RN's would come onto the ward doing a 'placement' and they would complain about having to do some basic nursing task, they would say that they are supposed to be giving medications and taking blood for tests not making beds and emptying bed pans. They are just in the job for the money and the 'prestige'.

I have numerous hobbies that actually cost me money, not make me money! I love to go for drives on dirt roads in the woods which I do alone. Sometimes I stop and talk to the wildlife or just stop and thank God for His beautiful creations! It brings me great pleasure to the point of even being closer to God. It is spiritual for me, and I love it! It sounds crazy for some, I'm sure, but you do your thing, I'll do mine! I've been unable to leave the house due to anxiety, so I haven't been out of the house for year! I so appreciate what others don't even notice! As horrible as my panic attacks have been, it taught me the true meaning of life and to love myself and others. I could always love people, but not myself. Now, I do love myself, and my anxiety is gone and all the horrible thoughts about myself are gone, however, stress does trigger them, and I have to be aware of that and stop the negative thinking in its tracks. Recently, my car broke down and had to be towed. I have been stuck in the house because I ran out of money this money and have had no money to pay the $600+ repair bill. I feel very anxious, and the self-loathing is trying to come back. If driving in the woods heals me in all ways, then I'm going to have to figure out how to afford it. I'm worried about winter coming because I won't be able to do what I enjoy so much! I live in Pa., and winters can be harsh. I'm 70, and I don't like being out on the ice and snow. However, I do enjoy driving in the snow! These roads are not maintained in the winter, but winter can be beautiful depending on how you look at it. I love Pa., and all its natural beauty! I am blessed! So do whatever brings you joy! As long as you're not hurting anyone, go for it! Tell them to kiss your butt and find their own thing that brings them joy, so they are happy and don't need to judge you!

Old School? It is where your Teachers were only required to actually Teach you to Read, Write and do Arithmetic! They were NOT, as they are today by Lazy Parents, expected to actually bring up the children as well. Old School was when Parents taught their children Manners, how to behave but at the same time to ask endless questions which the parents should answer truthfully - no matter how awkward! To show respect towards others until that person shows they deserve none. Old School was when Parents made sure their children were fed before going to school and at least one of them was at home when their child/children got home from school. Where Parents - no matter their Race, Ethnicity, Religion - ensured their children actually went to school. Old School is a combination of what Parents, Children and Teachers should do. Today far too many Parents think the Teachers should do it all.

I shower daily, I wash my hair alternate days. When I worked in Aged Care we showered clients minimum of 3 days per week, 7 days if there were continence issues. (Community care, clients were still in their own homes)

I sure do. I love bonsais. I had several but had to get rid of them when we moved from WA to VIC. I will start again someday when we are settled in one place. I also love crocheting. Unfortunately, the teachers of today are those students who were not taught grammar and punctuation when they were in school. I've seen mistakes on school reports written by teachers. I heard a young woman say that it's patronizing to put punctuation in a text message. Patronizing? I felt like asking her if she knew the meaning of the word!

WOW sounds like you really have NOT retired. You are doing an amazing job. Many retirees return to working out of boredom or not being able to survive on the measly pension. I retired any years ago due to emphysema and more recently a lung cancer diagnoses. Since then I had set up a foodbank at my own cost which I ran from home on behalf of my church but they wanted to use it only to help people within our church instead of anyone in need, so I closed it. I then volunteered at another local foodbank for a while. These days I grow fresh vegetables all year round to help people in need through a local charity PLUS I counsel victims of abuse and domestic violence FREE of charge. But hey, this is nothing compared to the great work YOU are doing...Keep up the good work

I had not studied economics or accounting in school and so picked it up at uni as a mature aged student. My closest challenger was a lad who was working for his dad's accounting business and was an entitled turd. I was working in the fishing industry at the time. We both went into the exam with a score of 96% and I scored 99% on my exam. My biggest surveypet peeves are things like demographics questions within the survey router that you've signed up for and "completed a profile", or when they ask you if you're familiar with a brand and then keep quizzingyouabout it when yousay no; "do you trust this brand of tractors that you've never heard of?"

I also dislike when they ask your opinion of a store or company or restaurant, and I state I have never been there. Then they still try to ask a ton of q's and want an opinion of a place I have never been to and sometimes never even heard of before the survey.

Amusing that this should come up with a question about 'Length of surveys. Rewardia just had two surveys of 1 minute and 2 minutes. I must admit I was in a hurry but points are points. I opened both surveys. The 1 minute survey said 15 minutes (190 points) to complete and the 2 minute survey said 15-20 minutes (I think a couple of hundred points). Not impressed!

Really?...I grew up in the suburbs of Brighton UK...we did high speed home made go-cart races down really steep hills...some tunneling and excavation work (luckily no-one died) and a wide series of tree platforms and stations that were made mostly with stolen scaffolding from local building sites...ah happy days...listening to the abuse from the builders below...when you had outrun them AND out climbed them AND they had given up chasing you!...(they were huge angry guys!) all the other things we are accused of doing I strongly deny...all that stuff with the buses and that one incident with the helicopter?...that wasn't us...it was probably other kids..and you cannot prove it...being a kid was SO much fun!

What rubbish. You develop yourself and your skills throughout your whole life. A gap year when you're young is just an excuse. There's plenty of time to travel and enjoy yourself. Get a job and buy that house that every millennial is complaining that they'll never own. I left school and worked for 40 years. No yrs off for having children or gap years. I've had a wonderful life, travelled and now own a beautiful home.

For those of you shopping in Australia electricity cost has risen by 40% over the last two years because the Government is hell bent on going to renewable power generation and on last nights news they said it will go up at least 24% IN THE COMING YEAR. This drive to renewables is going to cost a fortune and it feeds through all levels of production. In Qld they just built a battery storage to capture home Solar generated power that would otherwise go to waste, it cost $200million and if called on in a blackout it will last from 2 - 4 hours and if not called on then if the batteries are charged then the power will still go to waste. So maybe the Supermarkets are ripping us off but price increases are being fueled by this mad rush to renewables when there are much cheaper sources of power that don't only work when the sun shines or the wind blows. I'd like to mention that the two major Supermarkets are US owned, maybe we should think about getting them back into Australian hands. Your Superannuation, $4.5trillion is mostly invested in overseas countries, have you seen the movement in the $A v $US in the last week or so, almost a 4% improvement, that equates to a 4% loss in those funds?? could do much better here if we put our mind to it.

every year its different but this year my little grandson Nova, and he lost a tooth yesterday because it was Christmas the tooth fairy left 20 dollars ,i was in good spirits but anyways after the unwrapping session this morning ,he asked what did Santa bring me, I told him I had been naughty and Santa didn't come, he put on a frown and went into his room to look at his prezzies i thought ,but he came back with his tooth fairy money so i could have a present, I was so impressed and proud i went down to the servo to get him some ROBLOX credit cost me 15 i gave that to him then he said i could spend 10 dollars of that 20 and give him 10 back so he doesn't upset the tooth fairy, so now i owe him 10

Getting along with anyone is 'Mind over Matter' if you think about it. We could ALL get along Anywhere and Everywhere on the earth if people would just make up their mind to do so. How do you think Jehovah's Witnesses get along so well? We're all imperfect people. The difference is we follow Jesus' example while on earth, and follow the examples given in the Bible, overlook small hurtful things that happen, talk to the person about large hurtful things, and forgive them all! Is it easy? NO! But it's required to live or work happily with family, friends or acquaintances, and it's required by our God, Jehovah! ;-D

So I was saying they're out there to get us with all there smart gadgets, Phones, Watches, Glasses, ear plugs the list goes on. In the case of what is potentially a domestic violence case, the police should have spoken to both parties. To not speak to the woman, just because the man seemed nice is gross misconduct. This is how people die at the hands of their partners, when the people that are there to protect you fail at doing their job. This is incomprehensible. I would call the police, and explain what you've just told us. Thank you for calling, most people turn a blind eye. Having been in this situation before, I wish someone like you had come to my aid. You did a good thing to help someone in need, so I commend you for doing the right thing.

Strictly depends on the situation and whether you are a firm believer in giving individual(s) 'second chances'! In family matters - NO! In personal relationships - depending on 'how much' trust between the two of you was violated - MAYBE. In the political world or criminal world - NEVER! In trivial matters (of no importance) - YES! I don't believe in 'second chances' per se, unless I am the lucky recipient of a second chance (LOL)!
