I ask this, because many phones, computers and, even, some businesses are doing away with passwords and are moving towards fingerprint scanning, iris scanning and chip scans. They claim it's more secure, but I still prefer to use a password, because I find the other new technologies a bit concerning. What are your thoughts about all of this?

I was once hacked years ago when I had my businesses. The police told me that one method most used by hackers is entering people's computers through their MSN...ICQ or YAHOO messengers ....The police advised me to delete all messengers from my computer ..... When I was hacked I was hacked on MSN messenger whilst unknowingly chatting to the person who hacked me, whilst she was in my computer sending copies of my business files to everyone on my friend's list

Do you listen to songs in other languages? These being languages that you do not speak or understand well (need a translation for). I personally, enjoy listening to songs sung in Aramaic, Russian and Serbian Slavic. Unlike some of my constituents, I do find the interpretation or translation of the song in a language I do understand.

i have heard some beautiful Latino songs, I don't understand the words but the way the music flows is just awesome, and having visited Japan some of the songs I heard are pretty cool too. You really don't have to know the words to appreciate the music/songs..

Should children be permitted to be executors to their parents will? The nominated ones often help themselves to a 'bit extra' as executors fees, which may be legal but not necessarily fair.

It is so hard sometimes as you bring your children up to be fair and honourable and it is so hard to see what the $$$ signs can do to some of them at times. Trust certainly goes out the window with those that are done wrong.

When boys are in an environment with other boys only. They take on a "pack mentality" and don t know how to relate to girls and women. I think co-ed schools are the smarter option. They help raise boys to become decent men.

No apologies, Johana C but I thinkyour ideas are nonsense. I went to an all boys school and if anything, thanks to the plethora of paedophile teachers - including female ones, who were the biggest bullies of all - we came out as misandrists. Yes, in some ways Co-ed schools are better but let us not forget that girls can be every bit as cruel, nasty, vindictive - especially towards other girls - Their bullying techniques have, somehow, been developed into an art which is passed down from one year to the next and they take that through to their adult lives.
Both demales and males will develop into decent Women and Men if they have the example set for them by their parents. Sadly today Parents would rather rake in buckets loads of money - half of which they waste on After School Care for THEIR children - than actually rearing THEIR children themselves. So children come out of school knowing nothing more than how to bully and are set to be misogynists and misandrists their entire lives.

Did they live up to your expectations? I've met Geoffrey Rush and Rutger Hauer (now deceased). The latter was a better experience than the former. It's best not to idolize anyone full stop because we are all human beings.

Shaun Micaulef: brilliant, discerning and humble bloke. We had a brief chat at a small newsstand in Melbourne's CBD. His intelligence shone through his eyes intensely. He is also extremely handsome in real life. I was at Edward's Lake (Melbourne Vic) for a Labor Party rally with my parents as a kid. It rained so the venue had to be held indoors and the Great Gough nodded as he walked by. That man had the most powerful presence I have ever come across. What a man!

What do you think of Daylight-saving? Some countries have it, and some don't. Some states, territories, in Australia have it. Some people seem to either love it, or hate it! I think its a bit too long, at least in Australia. I would shorten it by a month, as it gets to dam hot in some parts of country. How does it affect you, if at all? Do you become more happier, or .....moodier?

People think violent movies and video games cause real life violence. But I have to disagree. The majority of people who watch a violent film, don't go out and hurt or kill people. They watch the film, turn it off and then get on with their lives.

About 14 or 15 I think. I'd had trouble seeing when I was in primary school but every time I had an eye test, they said I was fine. Turns out the optometrist needed glasses himself and had been reading the results wrong for years. A lot of kids needed glasses in the years following that

I've slept with the same snorer my parents sleep with: Charlie (Heinz59er, dog), is the loudest sleeper; he snores, farts, barks, yips, grunts, growls, yelps, and even sleepwalks! My parents thought he was possessed the first night he was in the house. But he does like the ladies, and enjoys his nightly cuddles. certainly didn't get much of those in the house he was rescued from (RSPCA save). Making up for it now tho'.

I used to love watching the Academy Awards and see people realising their dreams and winning awards for their creative work. But the Oscars isn t what it once was. Actors have become political puppets. No one cares what they think about politics. They should stick to what they do best -- acting!

The glamour has gone and now mostly just trashy outfits and who can show more leg or boobs. No class in a lot of their speeches either. It sometimes feels like the ones that win should not even have been nominated and the better actors have been overlooked due to the money put behind the movie or the actors themselves. It all seems a bit rigged to me these days and I no longer watch it.

European Tradition used to be to take them down after the 6th January when the "Blessing of the Waters" are performed .. still stick to that but prolong it a bit as they are so pretty and brighten up the place! Yes, maybe I am just a big kid at heart!

Hi I have a dog that's 8 years old and has had arthritis for the last few months. It's hard to deal with and heartbreaking. She won't move around much and seems to be in pain even on meds. Is it best to let her go or hope for the best?

I had a dog that was 8 when she tore a ligament in her back leg . We put her on a product called "biovet joint suplement" mixed into hamburger, within a month she walking on her own six months she was walking up and down stairs again on her own in a yr she was running around almost like when she was young . We kept her on it until she died at 14 1/2. No arthritis.

What Christmas Traditions do you have? When my brother and I were young, our Dad would always wrap a potato up in lots and lots of newspaper and put it under the tree, and we would be there on Christmas morning unwrapping this huge parcel, only to find Dad had done it again. Friends and coworkers think we should get together at the bar regularly for drinks as a girl's night thing and although it sounds nice I can not afford to go. Is it rude or should I trust they understand. I had mentioned once before and heard oh it's only a couple drinks and another girl said I ll buy yours, but I don t think that is fair unless I can return the favour next time, but that wouldn t be the case. Maybe just go one time and order water with a lemon slice and when you get the chance, tell your work mates of your situation. I'm sure they will understand and sympathise with you. And if they offer to buy a round, accept graciously and don't worry about having to pay them back. They wouldn't offer to buy you a drink and expect one in return. I'm sure they're just happy you could join them on a night out. So go girl... and have fun!

The crabby neighbour who called the police because there was too much noise, or you were blocking traffic. Quite often the drunks show up and spoil it for everyone. Fights, loud arguments, too much booze, nobody cleans up, all contribute to the events demise.

I saw a TV show where a woman owned a business and her executive assistant was offered another job and when she found out it was a friend of hers who made the offer, she felt betrayed, but the friend said it was just a good business move, and had nothing to do with their friendship. Is that the right attitude? Should business deals, hiring/firing, corporate takeovers, whatever, be made regardless of who the people involved are, even if it's family or friends?

You can't really compare it to the last time you helped someone. Everyone is different and not everyone will screw you over. If I had enough money to spare I would help my partner provided he's not blowing all his money on drugs, alcohol, gambling etc. and then expecting others to give him money for his necessities.

With my mum in law passing a few weeks ago, the family had the unenviable task of going through her unit to get it ready for sale, as it was in an aged care village.
She kept cards, and the grandkids were going through them, (they are all adults), and found so many from/to their dear 'Pa' that they had sent many years back when they were little (he passed in 1988), and the kids were thrilled to see them & took them home for themselves as keepsakes.
I guess everyone is different, not everyone is sentimental. I feel it's disrespectful to throw them out.

I have planned a surprise party for my husband's 40th, never in my life attempted to do such a thing, so one day the thought came to my head and I spoke to my mother-in-law and she supported me in my decision, I choose a restaurant in Moonee Ponds. Just had mainly family and a few of my hubbies friends. it was a nice group of about 30 people. I had organized the date/time venue menu /birthday cake . All I told my husband was that on the day we were going out for dinner for his birthday although I didn't want him to see where we were going, I got him into the car. Blindfolded him and held on to his hand and guided him while walking, when I got him inside the venue all the family gathered ready to greet him once i took the blindfold off him he got the biggest and most unexpected shock of his life. My husband could not believe how I could keep such a secret, because I am one who gets exciteded .

Do you think RTA will start to design a better traffic lights working system? When people drive somewhere, it is always a disaster to get out of the suburban area. I think this is because the lights system works in the old way, like it was ten years ago. You probably experienced the situation when you are in the traffic line, and the light is green for only 2-3 seconds. What do you think about it?

I have this problem only on weekends. A set of lights run very phase time slow. I have rung the traffic control people and get told. Yes sure is a problem so I will tweak the phase to clear it. Nothing gets done. Even have gone online to report it and nothing done.

Only spend what you have to. People buy things that are not needed, so their money disappears before their eyes. There are many ways to save, some better than others, so use your imagination. I had plans to go to Ukraine this year but that has been put on hold for now.

I came up with a thought. Why not have a section where people could write a review of various forms of media such as a film, TV show, book, music album or a video (music, short film, a viral video, etc). For example, people could pick a topic and a title, like a new release movie and write a critical review of it along with a rating out of five stars and if they recommend it or not. This could come under the FORUMS section or GAME COMMENTS...

I just opened the cupboard and there they were. After removing everything from that shelf (there is always one shelf that they seem drawn to) and getting rid of as many as I could, I clean the shelf, shut the door. 2 minutes later, open the door, and the ones I misses are gathering in a corner, l swear they are laughing at me! So, I put down the borax/sugar mix, which is supposed to kill them, but of course they avoid it. Any Rewardians have better solutions for keeping...

I have tried everything and nothing got rid of the little beasties until I discovered Ant-Rid ant baits, they are little white blocks that you can stick to surfaces and the beasties go inside and take the stuff back to their nest - they really work and they are all gone within a couple of days

l had a Samsung which died so my sister gave me her spare lphone which took me 18 months to work out how to use. Every thing l tried to do was not compactable with the lphone, which meant l had to find different ways to get the phone to do what l wanted, very frustrating. l would never buy an lphone, shich is over priced. It wasn't until I started work at the age of 15 years that I made a good friend. I was bullied all through school. Then I found a great job where I met my best friend and the people I worked with were fantastic. Then my dad decided we should emigrate to Australia from the UK and I left my friends and my beautiful dog behind. Don't get me wrong I mostly love Australia apart from the Government, I have been married since 1979, four wonderful daughters, four grandchildren and a greyhound who is now my best friend, companion and confidante, she never gossips.

Yes,, often, I am aware I am dreaming but at the same time I wake up and my dream has been so realistic and attached to my life as it is that when I wake up I sometimes have to ask myself "Was I dreaming or was this real?" We seem to be going through another period where very old and antique furniture can be bought for very little...nobody wants it...when I was redoing a bathroom...it was MUCH cheaper for me to buy a solid timber dresser that was over 100 years old..and convert it to being a sink unit...than buy a crappy wood fiber unit from Bunnings ... what the new owner got was something very special ... but something else had to go ... to make it ... maybe in a hundred years time...

My dad has done a lot for me. My mom is now better (Thank God), but when I was growing up, she was ill a lot. Which, called for my dad to step up many times and fill both roles for my siblings and I. Its my mother that affected my life. She told me from very early on, she was disappointed the day I was born as I wasnt the 3rd son she had to have. She told me, I was fat, ugly, dumb, stupid would amount to nothing in life. She said, when Sue was born she was so ugly we threw away the baby and kept the afterbirth. She refused to name me, so after 2 weeks Dad named me. She said the only kind of man I will ever attract into my life will be blind and handicapped, so he wont see how ugly Iam and will be more intelligent than me. When it came out that I had been sexually abused and raped for years by my eldest brother, she went into overdrive to help, protect and support him, she did nothing for me.
My Dad died on a Tuesday, my mother sent my other brother around on the Friday to tell me, after the funeral. I found out through an Aunty, that my mother got all the people that she wanted to the hospital to see Dad and say their goodbyes, my son and I werent asked.
I miss my Dad and think of him every day, he was a weak man and my mother loved that, she treated him so badly. Dad was a good man.

An update to my earlier post! Recklessly (Or should that be "Wreck".....) I succumbed to DIY temptation again not long after writing it, after all what harm could another small bookcase do? Duly went online to find a matching one, only available in White now, that's OK, I have no colour bias, perfect harmony with the Black one..... Arrived on my doorstep this morning, great! Cold day, nothing like a bit of DIY on a cold winter's day to get the blood pumping, as long as I don't get any one the carpet. Lifted the box up...TRIED to lift the box up....it slowly dawned on me that this "Thing" was a whole heap bigger & heavier than the other one. Cryptocurrency, and owning your own crypto-wallet means you become your own bank. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.
While it is new technology, there are a lot of scammers looking to exploit those that are unfamiliar with it, and there are a lot of new 'cryptocurrencies' which can be used as "ponzi schemes"/Pump and Dumps"/"Rug pulls".

My son was in a car accident where he was driving straight on a main road. The second car pulled out of a parking lot in front of him. No one was given a ticket. My insurance company stated that no ticket means both parties were at fault. Is this a true statement?

Based on law in NZ you son had right of way, the other car was pulling out onto a carriageway and must give way or stop until way is clear. Drivers can exchange details of Name Address/contact phone number, Registration No and name of Insurance Co. If requested by other driver you must disclose this info and he must reciprocate as required under the Land Transport Act. I would also make a Police report to get it documented if police didnt attend accident esp if he refuses to supply required details. Here getting a ticket is not a requirement for Insurance Company

As a lonely teen in the UK back in the 50s and 60s I had penpals all over the world. We exchanged postcards, stamps, learnt a bit about languages and other cultures. How exciting it was to receive mail from France, Japan, USA, Italy, Norway, Jugoslavia, the Azores etc. I studied languages at School and Uni and hitchhiked around Europe meeting and mixing wonderful people including my future husband. Now Facebook has replaced letter writing and I love hearing from my many International friends every day.

Lessons and learning can go both ways. You teach them things and likewise they can teach you things. Your talking about bossing someone, there should be respect from both sides. Discipline is a different thing, it's like learning what's right and wrong. However gaining experience and learning is something you will always do.

I save up all my change at the end of the week and it goes into a special bank account for my little volunteer school in a very poor Balinese Village for children whose parents cannot afford the Government school fees. I began it as a kindergarten and it has been going now for 8 years, helped by my fundraising and donations from friends. Whenever I go over to take books, clothing, soccer boots etc., my accumulated bank deposits help pay the school bills. It is run by my Balinese friends who take no money themselves so the children can get a basic education. It is amazing how change does make such a difference to children who have nothing, not even a toy of their own. Covid has meant I cannot get over there since January and my tiny school has closed, waiting until I can get back with what I have saved.

Why are people so rude on the roads these days, before people used to give way to other people out of being polite. Now days people don't let anybody in, if you try to change lanes, people speed up so you can't If you park at the supermarket car park, once you have finished your shopping, and want to reverse out of your spot, no-one will stop to let you out, I've even had someone go around me, and I was half way out. I fail to see why middle-aged first time mothers are still stigmatised and shamed. I mean lots of women are having children later in life now. I was born to parents in their 40s and 50s and it hasn't done me any harm. I fail to see the issue. And this argument that the older parent may not live long enough to see their child grow up is ludicrous. Disease, addiction, tragedy and dysfunction can strike at any time in life. One can die at any age. Leave these poor women...

As an only child raised by my grandmother, I never felt the strong connection that others feel with brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and parents. When we immigrated 3 years ago, I did not feel an ounce of worry or longing to go back to my country of birth. I've never felt homesick at all. Is this normal at all? I was born in UK. My parents chose a different religion to their familes, and most of both families turned against my parents. Because of that rift I grew up knowing who my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were, but not having a very close bond with them. In 1971 my father announced that we were emigrating to Australia. Before we left UK we were told that there was a house ready for us, and jobs for my father and myself. We arrived in "the land of sunshine" in June on a very wet, cold, windy day, there was also no house or jobs, so we had to live in the Pennington Hostel and look for work. That was the only time I felt homesick. As our circumstances improved we were glad we had come. In 2006 I made my first trip back to UK for a 7 week holiday, but then I was happy to return home to Australia, for me 'home' is where my immediate family are.

Today I received notification that my TXT messages are "end-to-end encryption". When I learn more, this mean that noone including Google and third parties can read those messages send it from my phone. So does it mean until today they could? Growing up a little boy my Mother had a vast array of cutlery she told me that if I was ever invited to tea with the Queen I'd know what spoon, knife or whatever to use...three full sizes of knives and forks...fruit spoon, soup spoon, desert spoon, jam spoon, cheese knife, steak knife, fish knife...the list went on.... I haven't seen most of these in over 40 years...has anyone else?

PLEASE parents think about your child's future with the name you dump on it. As a teacher it was heartbreaking to see children ridiculed or embarrassed because they had been given 'cute' (at the time) or the names of once popular rock stars or celebrities or 'momentarily' popular names, often misspelt by the parents. Little "Princess", "Rowdy", "Hurricane" or "Feather" suffered and probably still do. Siobhann's mother was not Irish so she spelt it Shivawn and the poor girl had to spell it that way whenever she gave her name instead of the proud Irish way. Then came the popularity for nicknames being the real name so Archibald became Archie, John became Jack and Henry became Harry and even James became just Jimmy and Katherine became plain Kate. Give them the full, proper name so they can have a choice if they just want to be called a nickname rather than stuck with it all their life. Also please consider the name when attached to your surname. I spent a long time talking to classes that it was hurtful to burst out laughing every time poor Poppy Plant and Holly Busch were called. And honestly do people think I have never heard the joke, "What do you call a woman with one leg?"

Both my and my husband's credit card were hacked and instead of doing nothing but cancel the card and have a new one sent out and my money reimbursed by the credit card company. I went on a mission to find out who it was. To cut a long story short, I contacted the merchants and found out the name, address, phone number and e-mail addresses of the two perpetrators and handed it over to police (needless to say I also stopped the goods from being sent out). I then also contacted the local newspaper (The Mercury) and they printed an article on how I was able to track down the hackers, I also wanted to share valuable tips on how people can avoid this from happening to them from the info I got from police. The article was in yesterday's Mercury and took up almost a full page. I also noticed that The Telegraph had the article in digital version too. I urge others to make the effort to do the same, because if no one does anything, these people will know they can do it again and again and always get away with it!

I don't probably couldn't as people down the Road have dogs that bark nearly all day, but I have a sister 2 years younger than me that stays up nearly all night watching stupid movies then goe's to bed for a while, gets up to get the grandchildren off to school and goes takes sleeping pills and has another couple of hours, gets up at lunch time then more sleeping pills about 4 pm and up about 6.30!. There is so much to be learnt from the elderly. They've lived through wars and journeyed through struggles we couldn't even comprehend. Yet they are almost dismissed by society. It really annoys me.

When you're elderly, you either become invisible or an irritation. Younger people (and I include those well into their 40's even) become impatient with older people who are stuggling physically. I've seen it at supermarket check-outs all the time, the operator will whizz all the groceries through while the elderly person tries to keep up, then when the elder fumbles around trying to pay, those standing in line start sighing with impatience. I've even seen in family situations, the younger generations laughing or mocking their elders when they are trying to participate in a conversation. The whole 'ok boomer' tagline is the new "you wouldn't understand becuase you are not a parent' putdown that people who don't want to listen use. Elderly people deserve far more respect and patience than what they currently get.

I use vinegar in the washing machine, just lift the cap on the agitator and fill it up at the beginning of the 1st cycle. Clothes come up smelling fresh and of whatever is on the off the shelf ones.
