Discussions of the day

Women have come a long way from being thought of as 2nd class citizens. I am all for all the gains we have made. Women are leaders in all aspects of life, Be it politics, business or generally in the work force. But I can't help but feel we have also lost so much. Such as self-respect and respect from our male counterparts. We can swear as good as any man! Not so sure if this is a good thing! Men never used to swear in front of woman, but now it seems...
Michelle S 553303
I truly believe that women in general have less rights now than they did when I was growing up in the 1960's. My mother was able to stay home and raise my brother and I and not forced to leave her home AND her children to afford the mortgage money for the house my father and her purchased together. They had 2 solid years working together at a factory before my mother fell pregnant with me and retired from the paid workforce and she was able to rest during her pregnancy and prepare for my arrival enjoying that time. Even on one income back then we had meat every night for dinner because back then you could afford it, not now! My mother taught me SO many valuable lessons of how to cook well but cheaply, how to sew and how to run a home. I, however, did not think that these lessons were valuable until I got older and unfortunately I bought into the feminist hype of the working woman being able to "do it all"! Absolute BS BTW as all I did was get on a treadmill for 25 years without stopping trying to be everything that my changing society told me was my right but ultimately missing out on some of the most important things in my 5 children's lives. I sent them along to Daycare because I was told it was as good as me caring for them and they'd be well socialised, but they cried when I left them and I abandoned them to a place of noise and no love. They will say to me today "Mum, do you remember when" or "do you remember so and so" and I have no recollection of those events or people because my headspace and I were somewhere else. I wish that I had realised the feminist lies back then and stayed at home raising my children myself and teaching them things of value. You can NEVER reclaim those moments you lost and I regret it deeply. I believe that we are less "women" now than we were before we had the right to choose whether or not to bring to term the children we carried in our wombs and we started trying so dang hard to be as good as men when we already were but in a different way! We got robbed of a lot of simple pleasures of watching our children play or having kids come home with our kids and ask to play in the backyard because there was always someone home back then. These days women, mothers especially, have to coordinate schedules and are often absent from the home and need to organise formal play dates with the other equally busy and exhausted parents of their child's friends. If THIS is what was meant by "progress" for women then we collectively were sold a lemon! Thanks for reading.

Never judge a man (or woman) until you realize the (or lack of) choices that man (or woman) had available at that life-changing moment. Or are you the type that goes with the current and that ship (moment) has sailed (and you are always RIGHT)?

Do you think it is right for small communities to put off fireworks by neighbours with no license or permission? What are the dangers of fire and also of injury doing this?
Greg B 520364
I have never heard of putting off fireworks. If you are going to put them off you don't need a license. If you let them off you might just BLOW your hand off.

Is it just me, or has there been a rise in people who in insist on correcting other people's Spelling and Grammar?? (even now, I'm sure I've probably put a full stop in the wrong place or misspelled a few words) Is this a battle worth fighting or just plain Jerky, what do you think?? By the way, it annoys the crap out of me
Suzanne H 324959
I do editing and proofreading for work, and I never correct spelling and grammar when I’ve not been asked to do so. I think it is rude and can be a form of bullying and belittling someone. If the spelling or grammar is wrong but the meaning is clear, there’s no need to annoy the writer with corrections. And if no one ever made mistakes, I would have a lot less work!

It seems of late that all we hear is how we should eat plant foods and not meat or dairy products etc. Almond milk is not as nutritious as cows milk and should not be given the children? It is also produced with pesticides and heaps of water to grow them. I was watching a cooking show last week and the vegan chef said h I also feel that a acre of plant food will give the grower more money they a cow or sheep would over a year. However, if the environmentalists...
Bugalugs
What I don't like, in fact I loathe, about Vegans and Vegetarians is thet they adopt the attitude that they are so much better than everyone else. yet these are the same people who want all their "Flesh" replacement meals to taste just like the Beef, Chickem Lamb, Turkey, Pork, Salmon, Barramundi, Herrings etc. they used to eat before they became so much better, more Environmentally Conscious and overall Much Superior Citizens than the rest of us.
The next time you are in the Supermarket have a good, close look at the Ingredients Label on all this Vegetarian, Vegan food. You will be surprised, very possibly, and justifiably, shocked at the amount of Laboratory-produced "Nature Identical" Flavours, Colours, the amount of Sodium, NaCl, and other Artificial Chemicals which are used to make those Meat Free Sausages, Mince, Steaks etc. taste just like the real thing!
It is a bit like those people who say they have stopped using sugar, the Cane or Beet variety and have switched to No Calorie, No Fat Artificlal Sweeteners all sold under trade names but which are, in truth, produced in laborarories and some of the ingredients have been shown, no, Proven to be Carcinogenic!
You don't have to adopt any of these extremist fads such as Veganism, if you want to reduce the amount of Meats you eat, just do so and increase your Vegetables including Potatoes!
For the extremists they all seem to think they are better than everyone else, they are so arrogant, so smug, they really have no idea what problems they are setting up fopr themselves after eating all that Artificial rubbish. They won't eat Cheese, drink Milk, eat Eggs and try to imply that this is contributing to cutting down on Animal Cruelty. Garbage, utter garbage because the Cows will still be producing milk, chickens still laying infertile eggs and they do it al Naturally.

Local bylaws say no bikes or skateboards...my own street says 5ks and hour all of that is ignored. Down in the park there is one small sign says "dogs on leads"....also ignored...the same with odd parking rules...nobody wants it...nobody obeys it...nobody enforces it...so what is the point?...someone is getting paid to do this...what is going on?

And the sign said
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply"
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young man
I think you'll do"
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that
Huh, me workin' for you"

Do you think all companies should offer Paternity Leave as well as Maternity Leave?
Bugalugs
No. People Choose to have children so they should plan accordingly. The cost to business and, where the employer is a Government, the Taxpayers is enormous. This is justb another form of Welfare just as the endless demand by people that the Taxpayers should pay for all their children's Child Care - Early Pre-School Care, After School Care, Holiday Care - it is just Welfare. Why should the Taxpayers, the vast majority of whom are on incomes of less than $100,000.00, pay the cost of Child Care for people who have incomes of $180,000 all the way up to $500,000 and more?
If people want to have children that's fine BUT they must plan and if the Father wants time off during the very early days then let him take his Annual or Long-Service Leave, he would still get paid but it would be money he is already entitled to and his employer would have already budgeted for that expense.

Conversations surrounding political correctness and wokeness are buzzing on the internet. Do we have the right to say what we want, even if it offends others? Does a push for diversity lead to tokenism? Have the ever-shifting boundaries of political correctness gone too far?
Craig S 1050522
Yes it has gone too far and plans to go even further.
But then I'm nearly 67yr old and came through the 70's and 80's which were not PC at all.

There is a plethora of arguments for and against the above. Towards the end of his life Charles Darwin became skeptical of his theory of evolution. Science is knowledge gained from observable facts. Theory is how we try to link facts to make a story. Given that new facts (evidence) can dramatically change the story should we still see evolution and creation as either/or argument.

Constant fatigue (feeling tired all the time) is a common, often chronic symptom, not a condition itself, usually caused by lifestyle factors (poor sleep, diet, stress), mental health issues (depression, anxiety), or underlying medical conditions like iron deficiency or diabetes. Are you also tired all the time?
Maiava A
Our modern society is designed to make us tired all the time so it can kill us early. Life was a lot simple in the 80s and 90s.
No 24 hour Television or steaming services,
no stores open 7 days a week,
no internet or social media,
no notifications from your mobile phone,
no mobile phones that ring anytime of day or night,
no 6 or 7 day work weeks,
no cancers or heart diseases,
no overly processed foods,
no hundreds of fast food restaurants,no vaping,no bullies,
no bill board ads in your face 24 hours a day,
etc...Did I miss anything else?

It seems like everything from food to cars to electronics to homes have skyrocketed in price since 2020. What's the underlying cause here? Why or how are people still able to buy these things for their inflated prices?
Beth
Two words: corporate greed. Granted covid, wars, inflation etc have some effect, it's not anywhere as pronounced as new set prices would have you believe. Corporations have milked these things to hike prices and get away with it and are continuing to do so.

The space program costs billions and billions of dollars. There has been talk about new moon missions, missions to Mars, missions to other planets or their moons in our solar system, and missions out of our solar system. For which mission or missions should all of that money be spent? Should we not spend so much on space missions and instead focus on fixing Earth and its problems?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
I don't believe 'we' (governments cooperating together on this planet - solving our environmental issues and natural resources issues, etc.) have enough money to solve earth's many issues - all created by mankind. Might as well have a Plan B - exit this planet (Earth) and start our destructive human behavior pattern on another uninhabited planet ('still') it is a dirty, rotten shame we are condemned to repeat our history on another uninhabited planet in the universe (LOL))!

Common disadvantages of homeschooling include a lack of real-life socialisation, limited access to resources and facilities, the demanding load on parents, and potential legal challenges. What are your thoughts on homeschooling?
Joanne D 124129
I come school my child. I do not believe that children need to attend a main stream school. Parents can access so many different resources and facilities. Homeschooling allows kids to learn without disruption, without all the waiting. Kids queue to enter a school classroom they wait while students organise themselves, they wait while instructions and resources are distributed. Waiting to ask questions plus all the rest. Homeschool kids have access to as much socialising as mainstream school students if not more. This depends on the parents and locations. We do group sporting, Homeschool group activities, play sessions, group library activities activities. The difference i find with my kid is that they are socialising with kids of a wide variety of ages, stages, and walks of life.
I have found Homeschool kids to be more friendly, they actually think more, are kind and great well rounded kids. I've not come across bullying and harassment behaviour. We live how we attend a monthly science activity. The kids get together and start group games. No parental instruction and they support younger kids or kids that may have disabilities and adjust things to include kids. These kids do this without any adult direction. Talking to the kids they take each kid individually likes/dislikes and all abilities. There has to my knowledge no restricting or isolation of any kids. They have been happy, confident, caring and intelligent kids. The kids can adjust attitudes and behaviours if they are playing games with toddlers, thru to high school kids and even adjusting games to include kids in wheelchairs or crutches, blind or other disabilities. They don't make a fuss of adjustments. An example was 12 boys (aged between 8 and 15 ) playing with a ball kicking it from one side to another. Then allowing some toddlers to have a kick of the ball and encouraging the little ones to be part of the game.

A family name is usually carried by a man, which has been for such a long time when this world was created. To me, a man is a man that brings his name forward with pride to his wife/partner & children & makes decisions & is the main bread winner of your home. Now these days, life & family meanings & structures are changing a lot. Many men now are adopting their wife/partner's name instead of keeping his name. How do you feel when this has been done? It brings the...
Elizabeth T 396096
"taking a man's name" is antiquated and sexist. It is easier (legally) and cheaper to keep your own name (especially these days when people are in the habit of remarrying).
When I was married, I always earned MORE than my husband so I find it offensive when people say "the man is the breadwinner" and I am talking decades ago (when we first married) right up until recent history when we divorced.

What is the voting age in your country, and is it compulsory to vote? In New Zealand at the moment, there's a push to lower voting age from 18 to 16 years It has been stated "it's against human rights not to lower the age" wish someone could explain that one to me!!

I wasn't eligible to vote until 21 and that really is the age the human brain starts to gain a bit of sense and maturity, the left want a lower voting age because the kids can be controlled in their thinking at school and have no idea of the realities of surviving in the adult world

I'm a good person who likes to help others. However, it seems to me that humans have changed in the past 5 years as I've been used, and then I'm kicked to the curb once they've gotten what they wanted from me. In today’s world, good people are often misunderstood. Kindness is mistaken for weakness. Empathy is seen as naïve. And those who help without asking for anything back are sometimes taken for granted, used, or dismissed as “too sensitive.”
But the truth is: good people are the quiet strength holding everything together. They show up when no one else does. They forgive when it's hardest. They keep choosing love in a world that sometimes celebrates cruelty and selfish gain.
Being good today isn’t always rewarded, and it can feel lonely. But that doesn’t make it any less powerful. In fact, it makes it more rare — and more necessary.
Because in the end, it’s the good people who change lives, even if the world doesn't always notice.

When faced with something as life-changing as a cancer diagnosis, the path forward is never simple. Chemotherapy, alternative therapies, or even choosing to let life unfold naturally none of these are easy or wrong, just deeply personal. The truth is, we can only choose what we know. My partner of 24 years passed suddenly on the 30th January. We had him lying in state at home and a fantail flittered outside the window behind him. Two weeks later a fantail flew into the lounge and sat on the ceiling pendant and continued to follow me throughout the house as I opened all the doors and windows to let it out. It wasn't frantic or chirping, I sat down back down in the lounge, said thank you and it flew in front of my face and then left. Being Maori it is meant to bring news of an upcoming death but my mum who's 75 said it was my partner visiting and regard it as a blessing. So I looked it up and the first article I clicked on was written by a person called Stewart (his name), later that day our son got the mail and there was an envelope addressed to him with a $200 grocery voucher and no return address. Probably a logical explanation but I like the idea that it's him and not conincidental.

Some scientists believe that Climate Change is bogus. It's not real according to their analysis. Some of these Climate change sceptics have done analytical studies and --couldn't find real evidence of it. The earth is always changing, and nothing remains the same for too long. But if these other Scientists are right and this has all been a lie, then what would be the reason for this? Why would so many want to believe it and insist it is happening?
Paula J 395266
Stalin once said if you tell a lie make it a big lie because people will believe a big lie. Darwin came up with the theory of evolution, and it was only a theory as there has never been any proof. With the advances in DNA this theory has been blown out of the water and yet it is taught in schools as a fact. What did Darwin gain from what is a lie? Fame! Climate change is another lie that started as Global Warming but when it became evident that the world was not warming it was changed to climate change. The CSIRO know it isn't a fact but if they announce that the money tap will be turned off. Malcolm Turnbull pushes climate change, and why wouldn't he as he and his son are making a lot of money from green technologies. As with anything, follow the money. Just look at the money being made by people making and installing solar panels, electric cars and batteries. And all this rubbish needs replacing every 10 or 20 years. It is one huge con and many people have been sucked in either because they didn't really think about it or are too afraid to disagree. How on earth can mankind change the weather? There is the sun and moon with all their effects, undersea volcanoes spewing hot water that heats our oceans altering the currents which effects the rain we get. Climate change has been blamed for the recent floods which is totally incorrect, they were caused by El Nino which has been known by the South Americans for thousands of years. People should ask questions and not simply accept the rubbish pushed as FACT.

Young adults are taking more time to marry, and cohabitation has become a popular alternative to marriage. People may also not want to marry if they have previously felt intensely controlled by others. What are your thoughts? Why do some people never marry?

Some research suggests that loneliness can increase stress. It's also associated with an increased risk of certain mental health problems. For example, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and sleep problems. My anxiety and depression isolates me from people and stops me from being able to do the things I'd like to do. What do you reckon? What does being lonely do to a person?

Well wow this discussion can hit on so much nerves. I can fully understand a life between 2 adults, but when children are involved that is too much to take in. If you live in a dysfunctional life or in an abusive situation, I also can fully understand, but when especially a mother to decide to leave your family & especially children, in my opinion it takes the cake. I find this to be so selfish on your part to up root your children's lifes for what you think for a better life. It...
Leonie 705004
We have no right to judge anyone as we do not know the complete story. There could be many reasons for a mother to leave, she may be putting her kids first, who knows? It would be such a hard decision. We have not walked in their shoes. Anybody who has made the decision deserves our support as well as the children and other parent. The last thing they need is others judging. How will that help a family?

Do you think seniors cause more car accidents than young people?
Robyn C 1009255
I received my licence at 19 & am now 82, I have never had a speeding ticket, only a small dint in my car in our car park misjudging how close I was to a pole. Another scratch on the front must have been done by someone else when my car was in the shopping centre. Will have to go for my license in three years & not looking forward to it, my husband is due for the second time he passed there last one in flying colours. How many young people with have a record like this, all my children & now grandchildren have been picked up mostly for speed limit fortunately not drink driving, one G Child lost his license for three months after loosing all his points, was rather expensive , fines as well as difficulty in getting to work.

Lately, if I am not director or CEO of a company, or I don't have own company, I am scanned out of surveys. I mean, be realistic - would really the owner of a company have time for online surveys? Or someone with income greater than 150k a year would spend time to do online surveys about groceries stores? I don't think so. That requirements of being even able to do some survey is almost impossible lately. What are your experiences?
Richard M 407933
Like a lot of others, I get screened out of countless surveys - certainly there are far more outs than acceptances. There is absolutely no doubt that the main reason I get the 'cold shoulder' is my age. I am 77.
Being rejected used to annoy me but I have come to accept that the so called marketing experts aren't interested in considered opinions from us older folk and believe that the world functions around the upwardly mobile with more money than sense. That's okay, they pay their money and get what they want but I wish they wouldn't waste everyone's time in this manner.

How much are we eating, and we don't know it. Starting to notice warnings on a few foods, what do you guys know about it?
Carol S 657195
I think we have no idea what we are eating. How could we know? We aren't there where our food is grown or even worse where it's produced, handled and packaged. Unless you grow your own food and raise your own livestock, you don't know what you're eating. Even then, what part does the environment and the feed for the livestock impact the final product? Almost everything from the air we breathe to the items we interact with to the food we eat affects us. I'm more concerned with the electronics and all the things we can't see. I have proof that the electricity in our homes can kill us, even our pets and trees. Now there is so much more than just the electricity we use. All the devices we use affect us, and I feel we are forced to use them out of necessity. I hate mobile phones, but almost every company wants you to download an app which I think is for tracking purposes, but they make it appear to be for out benefit. When do companies EVER do anything just to save us money? That doesn't even make sense. I feel like we are lambs being sent to the slaughter and everyone just follows along. I try not to, but sometimes we HAVE to in order to do what we have to do. They assume everyone has a cell phone and internet. We should be able to make that choice and not be forced into using things that we don't even understand how they work! Maybe I'm just too old for this. Does anyone agree or am I paranoid? I've been around long enough to know not to trust everything. You can't even believe what you hear and see now with the AI which is another subject I'd like to avoid!

Has anyone heard of the 'Bulla Rescue' in Australia which involves horses? I watched a documentary about rescuing Race horses that were left to starve to death by a trainer. There were many reports sent to the RSPCA, but it was not investigated. They found over 20 horses dead or dying from starvation. 23 horses were rescued, but 3 had to be put down. If you report something serious, shouldn't it be investigated. In the end the police were also involved.
Mooi
So much goes on in the racing industry. It is all about money and greed. It happens with horse racing and greyhound racing, rodeos and any form of animal exploitation. It is always about the money they can make out of an animal and when it is spent and considered no longer profitable, it is discarded. These animals are sentient beings, not commodities.

we eat all our leftovers now. anything left in the pot like a few spoons of uneaten carrots goes in a tupperware container in the freezer, just on top of the other stuff that has already been layered in over the weeks. then when full we make a soup stock and dump the container of veggies, pasta bits etc. that we have saved up. that gives us 2 days of soup lunches, just add bread. feels like a free meal or two, stuff that in previous years I didnt pay much attention to those little bits of veggies or 20 pasta noodles left in the cooking pot, they just went in the garbage.

What are your thoughts on Education? Is the system too rigid and doesn't cater to individual students needs, or do you feel it's too loose and has no real meaning anymore? It may be what you remember during your years at school, or the experience you have/had sending your children or other children in your care to school.
Paula J 395266
The education system is nothing more than a left leaning brain washing scheme. The teachers have no authority over the pupils who do pretty much what they like. There is no discipline or routine and nothing worthwhile is being taught. One of my children had a subject called pastoral care. I thought it was spelt "pasture" and wondered why they were learning about animal husbandry. I never did find out exactly what he learnt but his children have been taught about the stolen generation, how we stole their land, the world will burn up via climate change and you can be gender neutral or gender fluid and that there are more than 2 sexes. When I told my 10 year old grandson he might like Mork & Mindy he was quite concerned telling me many old TV shows aren't appropriate today. Fancy loading that on the shoulders of a 10 year old. In my opinion it's nothing more than child abuse. They are children and should be able to enjoy a childhood free of concern and unnecessary worry.

Don't buy / rent hideously over-priced buildings to operate from (including NOT renting shops in over-priced shopping malls).

Many reasons mainly the cost of living. I agree with a panel member that the Govt don't want you to retire so change the goal posts as frequently as they can get away with. The Govt needs our taxes more and more as people either choose not to have children or can't literally afford to with housing and cost of living. A totally sad state of affairs as it changes peoples' lives so the rich can get richer and tell the middle class which will become almost extinct that they are lazy or didn't work hard enough. Last, I don't have any kids (not my issue or concern)!

I don't care for sports other than the Olympics. I don't follow sports of any kind and do not watch them. I certainly would not pay an outrageous price for tickets to see them live. It is absurd what they pay professional athletes; they could do so much good with that kind of money. Many athletes end up broke and don't know how to earn a living any other way.

In our family, every year we would give the same presents. My Dad would wrap up a potato in lots of newspaper and put it under the tree, one for me and one for my brother. He then did this for my daughters as well. We always had one fun gift, One daughter always got a coffee mug, she has quite a collection now. The other always got funny underpants. I would search all year for both. My husband still gets a cigar (his one a year) and I get good chocolates. ...

WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT CHRISTMAS WHEN SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE A TREE THAT HAS BEEN CUT DOWN.EVERY TIME I HEAR WELL MOST OG THE TIME GROUPS OF PEOPLE GO OUT TO PLANT TREES TO HELP CLIMATE CHANGE SO WHY NOT BUY A TREE THAT CAN BE USED FOR YEARS

I am an only girl in a family with four brothers. My mother lived to be 88 years old and had dementia. I moved her in with me and cared for her for the last three years of her life. Only one of my brothers came to see her, the others didn't even call to check on her. Mom was a good mother and took good care of us growing up. We had an alcoholic father who cared more about his liquor than about us, but Mom made up for it by giving more of herself. I know of other families...

Gender is not the issue, more like family dynamics is the issue combined with the stereotyping of males. Furthermore, your sample size is too small to draw valid conclusions on gender. In addition, under the scenario you described you can draw invalid generalizations about males. Which has led to the 'myth' of girls (women) are more responsible than boys (men)...hm - even in these politically correct times - males are winning custody of their child or children from their ex-wives - for the first time - in the history of democracies!

Has anyone noticed that the weather outside is colder than usual for this time of year, especially here in California where I live? It feels like I m living in Wisconsin, where it s not sunny most of the time. Even when the sun comes out, it s not hot. Winters in Wisconsin often reach 50 below zero, and the weather can change dramatically it might rain, then shine, and then snow, which is quite strange. Also, I really dislike group homes and their regulations....

Hello Lisa thank you for the Californian weather perspective. In Melbourne the weather is similar, it's colder and hotter during this time of the year, than the past few years. Climate change and its effects are quite obvious. Regarding your plight of living with house mates is a bit daunting, but what can you do? When you cannot afford a home by yourself, some sacrifices have to be made. I pass a positive compliment to you. If you are the one who is appearing in the photo, you look quite young and smart, why not try a career advancement to buy your own place? Just a suggestion! This is what I did when I was young: work harder to climb the ladder to achieve career development. It was hard but, it solved a lot of life problems. Good Luck! 😀

I am sitting over here in Adelaide Australia and the sun is shining, and believe me, I know how lucky I am, I want to send as many blessings as I can chalk up with the big fella upstairs and send them over to the hurricane-affected areas, all I can say is Hellene is a [bad word], and Milton is an [another bad word]
The ghost
We should all consent to politicians having a sabbatical trip to form a barrier to areas that are about to be hit by hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and any other natural disasters, with only a bottle of listerine to sweeten the smell of bullshit coming out of their mouth as they get hit by nature.

It is something that Brands REALLY want to know...you know brands, right? They used to make things and were responsible for them...now they outsource the manufacturing process to someone else ... make MASSES of money ... sell you T-Shirts with their name on them (in the 1970s these were given away) and try desperately to make themselves cool and trendy by spending millions of dollars on sponsorship and advertising. Vacuous...like the Emperor's...

Should offenders be jailed for the rest of their lives without parole, leaving the bill to the taxpayer, which amounts to over $100k annually? Or should we just implement the death penalty? The only reason offenders receive these sentences is for the protection of the community not financial protection. If the death penalty were applied to severe life-without-parole offenders, both the community and the taxpayer would benefit. In either case, the offenders aren't stepping back...

you are forgetting those who are wrongly imprisoned and later found not guilty. once you kill someone it's not possible to fix such cases. and there are too many of them these days.

While growing up during the Cold War, I was repeatedly taught that a big difference between us and the USSR was that the USSR banned books while we, in the free world, wouldn't do such a thing. Today, we are seeing many books banned in parts of America. Personally, I never thought that I'd see the day when books would be banned in America!
Shawn B 1061185
NO! Banning books is how the "absolute coward" tries to exercise control over what the truth is and who can access it.
Remember, you are your own "censor control board." if you don't like what your reading, put the darn book down so someone else may learn about what you turned down.

What do the men think about woman boxing? Is it a man's sport? And shouldn't be practice by females?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Women boxing (women) and men boxing (men) is not a sport (under any set of twisted circumstances - PERIOD) and should have been permanently banned in all countries - decades (or is it centuries) ago (so much for humans capable of the doing the 'right thing' under any circumstances when capitalism principles are involved aka always about the money - LOL)!

We used to buy records (that we owned) and cassettes and videotapes we used to buy software that we owned too...the software got way too expensive...and people were making copies of tapes... videos and software so they just very gently removed the equipment AND technology. You used to have a DVD/CD burner/player in your computer, everyone did, where did that go? Cannot afford $2,500 for Photoshop or AutoCAD? Don't worry you can now rent...

the massive promotion of AI - Artificial Intelligence fills us with horror. If the reports are correct then AI will start making all the decisions for us, decisions dictated by the people creating this monster. We know its minor but how about thodse emails, letters you write on your PC etc.? We are now told our spelling is incorrect simply because it does not fit in with the Bastardised, incredibly Lazy, American version of how the Americans think English should be spelt. Our computers etc. come with a built-in Default "English S pelling (US version). Try to change that to suit your wish to use Correct, Original English Spelling. We have tried to make English Spelling our Default it initially workd but when we shut doen for the day and boot up the next day what do we get? The Horrible American Spelling. If Americans want to use their appallingly Lazy way then that is up to them. Why should people who want to use Real English Spelling be denied that Right? It is beyond time the ASmericans stopped being the World's Number One BULLY, we have Putin, Netanyahu, XI, and Kim of the Not-so-Democratice People's Republic of North Korea, in reality like Putin he is nothing more than an autocratic bully who are all trying to replace them.

I went into the city for an appointment and stopped into a Cafe to get coffee. It was a tiny place with a big, heavy glass door. I noticed from the 6 customers crammed in there, one man was needing to take a lady's mug of coffee to her outside (in her wheelchair) So I went and pulled the door open and held it for him to go out to her I may well have been a door stopper. He didn't even glance sideways, let alone thank me. Yes, I was all in black And I am only small...

The worst experience I've had with being invisible was a few years ago. I had recently been released from hospital after an accident. I was on crutches and struggling to get into a local mall to do some Christmas shopping. Well, some jerk actually pushed me out of the way so he could go first. Talk about angry, but what was I to do?

They are so big and car parks are designed for cars not 4WDs that are virtually as big as a truck. Look at the Ram or the LandCruiser

Maybe it's time to remember that country people need bigger vehicles to successfully run their farms, be they meat, fruit, vegetable or other. Without our rural industries the NZ economy would be in a total mess. And of course you are right, big vehicles don't fit in little car-parks and rural people do not go out of their way to annoy town-people so let's just be a little more tolerant please

There are many places in the world that provide school lunches (in Japan it is included in their school fees for example) and in various parts of the world breakfast is provided either by schools and/or charities. In Australia, many parents are used to child care centres usually providing meals (or certain ones) and including the cost in their daily fees. With our busy society - more families having both parents work and the increase amount of obesity, do you think it would...
Jania S
I think it is amazing how many parents are not prepared to be parents and want other people to work for them. More and more areas. Maybe parents who want this should give their children away to someone who will care for them 100 %. BTW we in Australia dont get paid or work the hours in Japan or other countries.
PARENTS are 100% responsible for their children. THIS IS FACT and anyone who get 'offended' can just ignore this comment.

Australia is in dire need of workers. From healthcare and teaching, to farms and the factory floor, the country is in the grip of a national labour shortage. Regional towns like Griffith, in central NSW, are crying out for more workers while those still in jobs struggle to shoulder the burden. You can't tell the difference....it is saving the planet...it stops animal cruelty.....and this runs against... you can taste the difference...it is made of vegetables, so why does it cost twice the price of meat...if you are going to stop animal cruelty there are better ways...........surely being a vegetarian means eating no meat, so why do you need a meat substitute? Are you missing your dead animals? What do we think?
Carol S 657195
I see no point in humans becoming vegetarians. What do we do with the animals that we have on the planet? Cows have to be milked, and there's nothing better than beef in my opinion. People are not herbivores. Why do we think we are so civiilized that we are too good to eat meat? God put them here for us to use, but not to abuse! There are humane ways to slaughter animals. I think it's more important to focus on people slaughtering other people! What the hell is going on there? We need to figure that out ASAP! Get rid of the drugs, cults and mental illness and automatic weapons. The founders of this country did not mean for us to be armed like the armed forces. The US is the worst country for murder, why? Are we too spoiled that we are bored and are looking for love instead of drugs or material things? I think it's a combination of drugs and working and divorced parents. Homes are broken!
