Discussions of the day

Some people believe we should be teaching our kids more worthwhile life lessons like how to cook, sew, mend or even drive. Instead of making it too academically focused. What do you think?
Jenny L 591463
I think there has to be a balance. Teaching is hard I know as some friends and my mum taught. My mum would make learning fun and exciting, wore costumes to make the children laugh. She would read in funny voices and make games up. Maths is a hard subject and not a favourite for me and I also think for a lot of people. We have too many gadgets these days so we aren't using our brains and knowledge because gadgets do it for us. Give a child google and they can answer any question you ask, ask them to use their imagination and come up with some thing unique and they are stuck. Spelling is another problem and we have touched on this subject before, how can we teach children when their parents have called them some weird misspelt name no one can even pronounce let alone spell either.

The 1950s is remembered as an era of ideal homes and perfect housewives, but is it truly a thing of the past? American study shows an increase in popularity with more families having one person working and the other taking care of the house and the family. If money was not an issue - would you be happy to do so?
Dang Ling-bits.
When I changed gender from male to female I found that I could no longer reverse a car nor read a map. And those bloody men leaving the toilet seat up was really annoying.

I don t have a car. My doggy is not allowed on public transport where I live. I am not alone with this problem. Just to access with my doggy some nice, big parks or the ocean would be great. Some countries and cities have no problem with dogs on busses. What do you think?
Mary M 329762
Maybe they should have bus time table for peoples how want they pets o the bus. One in the morning and one for afternoon.

Crime is something that can affect anyone. Our political leaders should spend more money on reducing crime. Educating the general public on how to best protect their self's and families. What suggestions do you have to reduce the rates of crime in your town or suburb? Should more money be spent on ---Neighborhood-Watch?
Frank N
Early intervention can significantly reduce crime, and there are some really good examples of this. Also, if people who offend do have to always pay reparation as well as having to pay people money for the emotional and other harm they have caused will have an effect of meaning that people are less likely to offend. Corrections also needs to take its role of assisting offenders to turn their lives around much, much, much more seriously. The government should not let Corrections away with its excuses for not placing people on appropriate programmes nor providint them other assistance, such as counselling etc. There's such a lot we could do, but don't, and I could probably write a book about it.

We all keep hearing about everything we have to do to be successful in life. I'm talking about things like getting a Uni Degree, getting a job, getting married, having children, earning more year after year, having friends, buying a house, getting a new car and so on. What do you thing is the cause of social pressure and how do you deal with it?
Linda C
I am in my 70's and we had it back when I was a teen. I started work at just turned 15 and I paid for my clothing, transport, board, health care etc. At 21 if you were not married you were being talked about as being left on the shelf. Always been pressure put on everyone but the trick is to ignore the pressure and live your life as best you can with a good conscience, respect for family and yourself and never let friends influence you in ways that are not healthy. These days I think people should put their phones down and start talking to people. Influencers as they are called are just wanna be's who really do not know much anyway but seem to get a following and many become quite rich because of this so called fame.
It used to be called keeping up with the Jones's back in my day and that was something I never aspired to. I still don't. There will always be someone prettier, have a better figure, be taller, have a better car, house, job etc. I guess you have to learn to be satisfied with what you have and improve it if you wish by common sense approaches.

Recently I read on a news-website that Australia is running out of space in many of our gravesites. The States governments ... rather than suggest opening up more of the Vacant land to produce more cemeteries, have suggested the idea of reusing Graves. Some graves have currently got a long lease. Do you believe this is a good idea, or bad? Would you agree to the reuse of your deceased - love ones ... grave?
Ellen C 69679
I honestly thought this was already happening. We are eventually going to run out of space for graves in our cemeteries, as interesting as it is seeing the historical graves from over 100 years ago it may come down to those sites needing to be reused... More and more people seem to be opting for cremation nowadays however, so maybe it won't be as big an issue as predicted... Cemeteries may well become more for those that are religiously inclined. I know all my family are wanting to be cremated, personally I like the idea of those environmental burial pods where you go in the ground and return to the earth; plant a tree on top of me and I will be happy :)

Is homeschooling a bad option or a good option for parents?
Sally R 561271
Fantastic option! I think we are being hoodwinked into believing we can’t educate our children! I sent my oldest 3 children to school , then took them out and have been home educating for 4 yrs and my 5yr old hasn’t even been to kindy!
As for socialising - if I committed to all the social events organised for homeschoolers in my city , we would never get any formal work done! Don’t ever let people tell you Home schooled children don’t socialise!

Do you donate money to Animal Shelters or Animal Cruelty? So many people abandon animals on the street here and overseas. They are thrown in the tip to die. Would that make you want to help?
Edith v
I only donate to animal shelters .I have more faith in animals than some humans .I detest any cruelty to animals .We keep a dog ,but always adopt one from a shelter or refuge & they are so loving towards us

Europe has a proposal to ban all new cars that run on fuel by 2035. It might yet get the go ahead, but there is quite some resistance to the idea of doing this, as you would expect! The new vehicles would have to be electrical. If this goes ahead eventually in ---Europe....you would have to anticipate it would follow on to other nations, in North America, Asia, Australisia, etc. Would you like to see this happen in your country? Do you think this is good...
Stephan S
Europe has a good infrastructure and not so long distances.Australia is completely different and I dont think electric cars are suitable at the moment. There is not even the necessary infrastructure and also the grid is already now on its limits.I will not buy an electric vehicle anytime soon

How do we encourage more people to buy products made in their own country? It's naturally better to buy as much as you can from your own nation. There are many reasons for doing so. Jobs are one of the major reasons. And more money stays in your own country rather than offshore. Do you think governments should be doing more to encourage this? And if so, how?
Aisha A 379399
People will purchase if local products are affordable and of good quality. And governments need to support people trying to open their own businesses.

It is amazing how many people put heir hand out for money when you have maybe sold a house or so. I trusted this ex friend and so much for promises ...
Sandy S 24335
Yes and two years later am still waiting to see any of it. They have since become non friends over a different incident and in the time since we have also found out they didn't use the money for the emergency medical treatment they said it was for but they did at least enjoy a night at the casino on us. NEVER again do we trust anyone when it comes to money. We don't normally lend anyway but these two were such good, long time friends so we thought this was an exception. Sadly, from now on, no matter how desperate anyone is, we will not be helping them in this way.

I wake up during the night frequently. I seem to sleep for a few hours and then I am awake. I get on the computer and make myself a cup of tea and toast. After a few hours up I go back to sleep for a few more hours. This does not bother me as I no longer work. How about you?
lulu
I had sleep aponea at 80%, could not cope with that machine so i went on a weight loss programme and lost seven stone. Everyone i knew told me it wouldnt help but hey guess what it did and i no longer need the machine and sleep six to seven hours solid per night .

What do you think will happen when the Robot's take over many of our current jobs? What will we do then? Are you worried about the next generations of worker's? Where will the next jobs come from, if many of those we currently have are automated? Some current jobs at risks: transport, cashiers, accountants, office workers etc. What is your view?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Robots will make the perfect employees - do not have to pay robots or give robots benefits - the perfect setting for a capitalist planet. I would guess that future jobs will come in robot repair, the building of more sophisticated robots, computer programming, forensic detectives, and jobs that rely on the ability of humans to think and adapt (in the spur of the moment). However, if humans don't deal with climate change (global warning) on this planet - there will not be a future - for anyone?!

After all the trauma, tragedy, restrictions and anxiety with Covid-19 affected everyone of us to a greater or lesser degree, do you think the world will be a better place?
Mike Pike
The Bible says that when you made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life you have no need to worry about anything for God said that he will take care of us.so what if china takes over the world. My God is in control. my God will never leave me nor forsake me. My future is in my God. and without him I have no future. if you want to know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour Prayer this simple prayer
Lord Jesus I ask that you be my Lord and Saviour come into my life and be my King.
Acknowledge: We have sinned - Romans 3.23, Luke 18.13
Repent: Repent of Perish - Luke 13.3, Acts 3.19
Confess: Jesus is Lord - 1 John 1.9, Romans 10.9
Forsake: Forsake your sins - Isaiah55.7
Believe: Believe and be saved - John 3.16, Mark16.16
Receive: All who receive Him are his children - John 1.11,12
Attend a Church: Find a Faith filled Church.

Our existence is treated like a magic show....Covid 19 came just in time to delay anyone fixing Climate change...and everyone is VERY concerned about the huge quantities of plastics that are dumped and not recycled....NO-ONE is talking about mankind's obsession with concrete...billions of tons of waste concrete that won't be recycled and will NEVER break down...lets just put in the queue and only bring it up if everything looks like being fixed....
Aisha A 379399
Some governments don't even acknowledge climate change is happening so there's not going to be any action on their part. We as civilians can do things like not littering the oceans and using less plastic.

So they gave up their royal titles in order to have more privacy and not living in the public eyes. But their recent second baby announcement is anything but private. And what about the much anticipated sit down interview with their neighbor, Oprah Winfrey? That s a lot of publicity to me. It appears that they don t like the media chasing them but they like to tempt the media. That s just hypocrisy to me.
Therese M 73305
Sadly but true more so her she is a show pony and everyone has to look at her I'm gob smacked the family couldn't even have a funeral without her trying to but in the flowers and condolences could have been sent on the news of prince philip's death but no she had to try to be the big I am .Harry should stand up to her she is nothing but a money hungry woman that was looking for fame she is a schemer and mulipulater harry could have down better for himself .he needs to stay in the U.K as his marriage will fail and needs to be able to keep his kids the longer in USA territory she will have more chances of keeping custody disapointed he abandoned his nan at her sad time and not celebrating her birthday as meagan is not the only the woman to be pregnant 1day extra in the U.K would not make no difference .he needs to come to his senses where she is concerned diana would be disapointed he has fallen out with the family I only saw oprahs ads and knew she lied on that interview and as for Harry he had his mother's inheritance and still claims he's been cut off but hey your choice to walk away so don't cry wolf

With so many latch key kids should one parent always be at home when they arrive home and leave for school. Also on school holidays. There are so many kids getting up to mischief now days, do you think having a parent at home would help?

Yes I think it is ideal that one parent be at home when they leave and arrive home from school. The reality is in some families it is not possible.

For me it's very hard to forgive people who heart me. I always try but can't .
Smiley
If it is my friends or family/children eating my food?- easy to forgive.
The trusted relative who spread vicious lies about me and threatened to kill me?- they will NEVER be forgiven.
It depends on the circumstances and who is involved.

Would you call your child Apple like Gwyneth Paltrow did? I think naming your child something weird is a form of child abuse
Joe B 288252
Parents have a responsibility to think of their children’s future and to give them a name that sounds funny or smart at the time without considering the affect it will have shows a deep lack of understanding or concern of another human being.

I avoid self serve checkouts because I believe they are replacing people and jobs, what ever happened to service. Service stations don't serve you, banks want you lining up on the footpath. Yes, with technology we can do most things from the comfort of our lounge chair with little or no human contact. Being human is about interacting with other humans, what does the future look like for our dehumanized children?
Glenys C
I avoid self service checkouts, firstly because they are taking away jobs, secondly because I am not paid to do it and thirdly since the coronavirus too many fingers are touching the control that could be spreading the virus.

I think it's bad manners and it feels intrusive, what do you reckon?
Sandra C 12043
Depends on who they are. Most people are welcome in our house as long as they take us as we are. Most of our friends ring these days as I have just undergone a breast removal, chemotherapy and radiation and they are thoughful and ring in case I am asleep as I sleep at odd times.

We have to live and do the best with what we have. Sometimes I feel so frustrated with myself like a cat - chasing its tail going around and around, have so many bad habitats like all the bad habitats are stopping me from genuinely enjoying and getting the best out of my life. I do have some good habitats like listening to music, god please help me and my family and friends, I know life can be better and more enjoyable god bless you all.
Dang Ling-bits.
I only get frustrated when I knock my beer over and it spills onto my breakfast cereal. It makes them taste a tad odd.

Golf..it is a pastime...not a sport...whatever they tell you.. and I've noticed that at least 2 golf courses....one of them a major venue...are being closed down in Brisbane, where I live, converted to recreational purposes (so golf isn't a recreation either)..... Is Golf dying out?...have the latest generation of overweight and unfit grey haired men found something more interesting to do?... seeing people like Trump playing it all day, everyday would put a lot of people off...
Andy B 2142638
There is so much wrong with your post!
A sport is a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other.
Golf fits that definition (Merriam-Webster). Golf is a sport, definitely, irrespective of your biases.
And if you play without competing, it then becomes a recreation.
And to suggest that grey haired, overweight, unfit and male is the standard required to play golf, is completely ageist and sexist - not to say ignorant as well...
And Trump doesn't play it all day, every day. An obvious exaggeration. (He was even reported this year of not playing for a couple of months) And obviously put forward by a Trump detractor. You could have easily put Obama or Clinton playing to the same effect.
Trump supporters will be enthused to take up the sport!
Australia has a huge amount of golf courses per capita compared to other nations. We have the space where many countries don't. I would suggest the venues near you that are closing down are

I'm making dinner this year for 4 (so far), and looking forward to it. I'm planning to serve chicken breast (no carving, sorry Dad), with roast potatoes, (possibly with roasted parsnips), and either creamed spinach and carrots, or Asian slaw, which I served last year, with good effect. I've got ice-cream and tropical fruit, and/or custard and xmas puddings, as weather permits.
Pamela V 115067
Chicken with roasted veggies, trifle and pavlova. No one likes Christmas pudding so ice cream as well. Snacks beforehand so all 4 of us will be on a diet in January. Sad note, my 27 year old granddaughter passed away in February so will be first Christmas without Amy. Miss her terribly but will remember the good times.

I do. It's a disgrace. Whatever happened to the old adage "the customer is always right"? Seems manners have gone out the window!
Brandy Yining Z
Yes, I think the customer service definitely has declined when I tried to get hold of Vodafone to sort out some problems. I was put on hold every time when I called its call centre and I had to wait for 45 minutes on one stage. They seem to enjoy transferring me to different departments and promising the next department will help me. I ended up having to speak to 4 different people in one occasion and I was told different stories by those 4 people. There are no email addresses to contact Vodafone. I could only use the online virtual robot option and eventually it still requested me to call the same toll free phone number that I could never get help with. The problems were never solved and I have given up.

Many, many years ago, I worked as a childcare worker and if you witnessed what I saw working in various centres, you WOULDN'T place your kid in childcare. But it's not only the safety aspect. Parents are missing out on their children's important moments. Their first baby steps. Their first word. You can never get that again. Raise your kids yourself!
Angel
Having worked in a childcare centre, some kids are better off in one. We had children that had never sat at a table to eat.

The only reason governments won't legalise cannabis is because big pharma will take a huge hit. It's all about money. Alcohol kills more people than weed ever will, that is a certainty.
roger b 167654
Tobacco and Alcohol do more damage but collect a lot of taxes - at least you'll get the tax going to the govt. instead of drug dealers. It is a complicated issue and deserves more than just a simple yes or no.

I don't agree that every child in a sports team should get a trophy for having a go. Sport and athletics is about competition and there can only be one winner. Even the children's party game 'pass the parcel' has been changed by politically correct parents. Every child gets a prize now. It's ridiculous. Competition is good for kids. It teaches them how to win and what it feels like to lose -- much like life.
Lachelle B
Years ago an African swimmer qualified for the Olympics. He got his butt absolutely kicked by the other swimmers by lengths. But he kept going and completed the race. His training was in the river, not an indoor swimming pool, or the latest technology nor exercise equipment. When he touched the wall at the end he received a standing ovation by the crowd. Sometimes the losers end up being the winners!

The research indicates that most parents (around two-thirds) have a favourite child, often unconsciously favouring daughters, younger children, or those with more agreeable/conscientious personalities. What is your experience? Do parents have a favourite child?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Do parents have a favorite child? YES (and I was definitely NOT my parents' favorite child)! Should parents have a favorite child? NO (but human behavior (especially as a parent) being what it is)! Do I have a favorite child (as an adult)? NO (however, never had a kid and never like kids even when I was a kid)!

Do you have a secret you have never told anyone? You will go to your grave not speaking of it. Are you keeping it for someone else, or yourself? If you had a chance to unburden yourself in a safe place, would you?
Tina 1664116
I have a sister who knows my secrets, and I know hers. I have secrets that were told to me years ago, that I would never say; it's not my place to tell someone else's secret. I have two good ears, but my mouth stays closed.

The largest users of electricity in a typical home are those that generate heat or cold, primarily hot water heating, space heating, and cooling systems (like air conditioners or heat pumps), which can account for over half of household energy use. What wastes the most electricity in your house?

the heated lights in the bathroom that people forget to turn off when they leave the bathroom. I've walked past the bathroom and had to turn the light off because the bathroom was empty

The Australian Government appears to be investigating whether they can introduce floor pricing to the sale of alcohol...at a minimum $1.50 per standard drink....they say that this will stop the sale of cheap drinks...which they argue cause most related problems to drinking...however due to massive taxes which go up annually...the only drink this will affect is wine...leaving the cheapest bottle wine costing $10.50.....NOW if we have to pay $10.50 for a bottle...

We have re-sold \u2018phone\u2019 tickets and have bought others tickets as well with no problems. You just pass on the bar code or pdf file to whoever you sell and they get it scanned when they enter. There is no way they should be checking your phone number or SIM card to see if it\u2019s the same phone they sold it to. My son just attended a concert with his ticket on his dads phone. They both entered the venue with both their tickets on the one phone. It\u2019s just a bar code they scan. Not the phone..

Women who have Caesarean births in Scotland go home on the second day of the birth. This is a financial decision, not a medical one. Surely, the care of the mother and child should be paramount. I was concerned when I heard this. Do you think this is going too far in the cost-cutting exercise, potentially putting patients at risk?
Liane H
Absolutely disgraceful. Higher risk of post natal depression and undiagnosed versions of it ...
Why put so much pressure on new mums ? Day 3 is the worst day after birth for the baby blues to set in and milk production to come in properly ,then complications can arise ... that is all just after a natural childbirth!

We are seriously considering fostering a child. We need to consider many negative and positive aspects. Do you have any insights or advice based on your experience?
Teri 1282723
I've done it. And if you truly love people and want to help someone who isn't old enough to speak up for themselves, I recommend you do it as well. I grew up in a home where my parents nearly always had 1-3 foster children sharing our lives. We learned as children that fosters come and go, but we were able to adopt 2 of the boys. They are my brothers through and through. The girls that I fostered were being abused, both 16 years old. One was being beaten regularly by her mother and stabbed once, the other was being raped by her mother's live-in boyfriend. The time with them was only a few months each but it was enough to let them know there are good people in the world and both changed into good people themselves. One has a lovely family and the other is a veterinary technician. Both are happy:)
I very highly recommend fostering if you honestly feel your heart wanting to help. You don't get much financially, but you get loads in return emotionally. As much as you know they will most likely be leaving your home at some point, each and every one of them stay in your heart forever. You love with all purity of intentions and build them up and show them good in their world. You will make a positive difference for each child.

I've been seeing many videos with vacant, abandoned or neglected buildings across North America and just can't accept the levels of homelessness/under-housed in statistics either. While some governments (local, state or federal) may try to do a few things, do you think neighbours could also be allowed to help clean up some of these spaces? Or should we simply pay our own taxes, mind our own squares, hide our tools and hearts, and/or turn up our noses at the unkempt potential...
Jenny L 591463
It's the same here in Australia too. There is a closed down school near us with a house all boarded up. Yet there are people screaming out for some where to live, homelessness has gone through the roof. It's just a waste and because no one is using the school it is going down hill at a great rate of knots. There's even a tennis court, why couldn't some government department turn the old school into some accommodation for the needy even if it is only a temporary fix. At least it would be being used again instead of rotting away before our eyes. The owners of any run down building or premises should be made to clean them up. My parents had a vacant block in Brisbane and Dad used to get letters from the council to clean it up and people used to dump stuff on it. I remember helping them clean it up and I fell over some tyres that some body had dumped there. They ended up selling the land because they received a good offer on it and it then saved them from having to maintain it too. So where is the fairness letting other people get away with not maintaining their properties? I guess letters don't get passed on to the owners but after a certain amount of time has lapsed surely there is more they can do.

If you invited a friend over for dinner, and you suddenly became ill just an hour before they were to show up, do call them to tell them you suddenly fell ill thinking they may feel you're cancelling because you really don't want them to come, or do you tell them the truth to protect them from catching the illness?
Linda C
I would not hesitate in calling. During Covid and I might add I am in my 70's I had people come right up to me talking then tell me they had Covid. I keep away from people with colds, etc. as I am not a healthy person. So why would I not ring and tell a friend I am unwell and to make it another day when I am better. It's a common courtesy.

What is your opinion on which martial arts class is best for a 13-year-old? My son wants to sign up for one, but there's so many to choose from. Which is worth to sign up to?
Andrew C 287196
There was a discussion on the radio the other day about kids "wanting" to do various activities, the parents paying for it, and then the kid quickly pulling out again ... sports, dancing, scouts / girl guides, horse riding, etc.
Before paying any full term / year fees (often non-refundable because you're taking up a spot and the classes cannot start again to catch-up a later fill-in), you should find somewhere that either offers pay-per-lesson prices or even gives a free trial. That way you can find out if the kids *really* wants to do it or not before paying out huge piles of money.

How often have we said that someone is "just jealous" when they have offended us in some way. I was a bit shocked one day when one friend told me that another had said this about me after I'd said I didn't think a certain outfit would suit her. I knew she really liked the outfit, but I truly thought she would look better in something more suitable for her weight and shape. I worried over this for some time and concluded that while she has a lot of expensive things that...
IdentifyAs
The person who is telling you this crap is trying to put a wedge between you and your friend with the outfit. It may not even be true! If you value your friend with the suit, speak to her personally (don't mention who told you) and say I hope I didn't offend you when I said the suit didn't suit you. Do you believe that your dreams have a specific meaning in your life? Do you sometimes look up the meaning and try to make sense of it?
APB
I have only ever had one dream about a future event...that was David Bowie's death...aside from that it has always been a fantastic floor show of great experiences all laced together...
even the Bowie dream was good...he and I were talking and laughing together in a pub...as he got up to go I said "wait a minute...aren't you david bowie?"..he said "no mate...he's dead"..and then he laughed...
that was three weeks before his death was reported...

When the hairdresser is shown a picture and still fails to complete the hair cut, should you just smile and go, or should you be able to refuse to pay, as it is not what you had requested?
Roy R 1009866
The hair dresser was trying a style that he/she had not done before but they were still using their time so they must be paid. The hair style probably could be repaired, that is cut a little more for aa different style. Anyway, in a few short weeks the hair is back and the "new" cut can be tried again. Only Karen's refuse to pay, if you were the hair dresser would you want and expect to be paid? Yes, very likely, so pay up.

My answer would be no, just because you don t have kids doesn t mean you don t have friends or family that is looking forward to spending the holidays with you. I don t think parents should always be first in line, but I also don t think the person who has been there the longest should always get first pick either. Rotating is probably the most fair option. What do you think?
Claude H
No. There are too many laws now giving preference to everyone. We are all equal & should have equal rights.

Personally, I've been in a rather rough position. After a couple of years at one job, I'm working at my 4th different job this year (part-time position) and currently looking for a 5th different job, because my current occupation is not giving enough hours to cover all of my bills. One thought that had come to mind while in this predicament has been to go back to college, but I have taken two programs already, both of which I have not finished. Not sure if anyone here has...
BLACK LIVES MATTER
It will depend on your RATIONALE: WHY you did not finish the other two 'programs (academic community)' you took while you were in college - previously? Or are you a professional student (and not aware of the fact (?)). Whether it is worth going to academia for the 'third time' - is STRICTLY your decision (your life) and maybe 'involving' a conversation with your WALLET!

So I am being harassed by some woman who's not happy I married the man she wanted. I have 3 children with him, and we are so happy together. Yet this lady who I've blocked btw continues to harass me via fake social media accounts. What is a good reply to send her, as I have run out of ideas to reply as? All she wants is a one night stand......but apparently I am in the way

you need to report her to the police what she is doing is illegal maybe you can get your husband to talk to her with you there and he can tell her that he is not interested in her anymore and is happily married

Does it annoy you when people leave rubbish in the shopping trolley? Like the shopping trolley is the garbage. I found drink containers from a take-away and a paper in a shopping trolley, when the supermarket was busy and not many trolleys were available. A garbage bin had been provided at the front of the store, in a convenient location. What's next?

There are far more serious issues that concern me in this world than someone leaving rubbish in a trolley.

How to deal with bullying and harassment in the work place? I've been at a job for 2 years with constant bullying from a couple coworkers.. Management doesn't do anything I just don't know what to do. Need this job yet being pushed to the edge. Some advice please :/
Elizabeth T 396096
It is sad to say that though companies love to say how inclusive they are and how much they don't tolerate bullying that they do nothing when things are reported and even going higher up the chain of command does nothing. Your options are then:
1/ Report the matter to the government authority for action
2/ Tolerate it
3/ Resign
Not fair but this is life and it is sad to say nothing changes.

When I was younger, I was able to make a few dollars during the summer to be able to go spend at the store how I pleased (candy and ice cream, of course) I was hit with a sad realization the other day when my 11 year old son and his friend looked around to make some money. There was little to nothing that people around would pay them to do. They asked people if they could walk their dogs, tried to sell iced tea and were eager to start up lawn mowers (which I would...
Shawn B 1061185
It's a petty sad state of affairs when one has to start working at any age. Once 'work' is started in never ends (even in retirement.) We should try and let kids be kids as long as possible because like time itself, once it passes it never comes back.

Was having a conversation with my partner a little while ago about the latest person who won a big amount in the lottery. He grumbled that they probably didn't deserve it. I said anyone who buys a ticket deserves to win. So he asked "So if a rich person like Bill Gates for example brought a ticket then does he deserve to win?" To which I replied "Yeah because he brought a ticket!". What do you think? Do you think anyone deserves luck or good fortune?

Growing your own food can be cheaper and healthier. With the rising cost of produce, many of my family and friends started growing more produce. I myself grow a few things which I find taste better as there is no need for insecticides/chemicals. Have you tried growing your own produce?
Linda B 907610
We moved to a rural property - a year ago tomorrow, actually - and since then I have grown potatoes, kumara (sweet potatoes for those outside NZ), NZ yams, carrots, cauli, broccoli, capsicums, corn, onions (red and brown), spring onions, pumpkins, beans, snowpeas (mange tout), leeks, cabbages (red and savoy), spinach, silverbeet, swede, daikon radish, beetroot, garlic, rhubarb, courgettes (zucchini), several varieties of tomatoes and herbs and attempted eggplant (aubergine) but was unsuccessful with those as I planted them too late in the season. We have also harvested feijoas, lemons, limes, mandarins and peaches from trees that were already established on the property. We also have chickens for eggs. I have made several batches of pasta sauce, tomato relish, peach jam, onion marmalade and feijoa chutney. I also make my own Irish soda bread, naan bread and focaccia. We are loving the flavours of fruit and veges fresh from the garden and are looking to add more gardens so we can grow more produce.

Hello everyone, question: Is it too risky to get an investment with no experience whatsoever in this industry ?
Andrew C 287196
Just stick to normal local bank term deposits. They're much safer - let the bank take the risk of the ups and downs of the stock market. Stay well away from stupidities like cryptocurrency and transferring money to overseas "companies" that are more likely just scams!!

Everyone has different tastes and needs, so we all have different food combinations in our pantry. What do you consider to be your main pantry staples that you strive to always have in your pantry or fridge?
Michelle S 553303
If you strive to always have SOMETHING in your pantry then I would strongly suggest that you get multiples of everything starting now! As much as MSM won't talk about it, there IS going to be a global famine and even now it has begun in African and some poorer Middle Eastern countries too. There is simply NOT going to be enough food to feed everyone and with a deficit in supply only one thing is certain and that is that prices will continue to rise in ways that we who have grown up over the last 50 years have never conceived of! Farmers are being told NOT to grow food or they have seen prices for fertilisers go up so high, if available at all, that it isn't worth planting crops but taking the insurance money for a lost crop instead. The "environment" has become the reason for the slaughter of millions of additional animals which would not have ended up on our plates this year or next because the "Nitrogen Minister" of a country has stated that the animals have to go so that "Mother Earth" is saved from the ravages of sheep and cows! Crops are failing due to inclement weather either drowning the plants or drought drying them out. Water is and will continue to be restricted for farming and even the growing of rice, a stable food item on the menu of billions of people all around our planet isn't forgotten by the architects of this intentional disaster. There IS a war on food and if you and your loved ones WANT to eat in the years to come you MUST make ready now before supply slows and rationing becomes widespread. It sounds science fiction or like a novel but we are ALL going to go through times we simply can't begin now to imagine in our near future! Fill up that pantry now, buy as many Mason jars as you can find and fill them, get kilos of salt as it's a valuable commodity and plant a garden with non GMO seeds! All the best to you all.

With the recent quake in Melbourne, I am curious to know people's experience. Are you like me and only experienced small quakes, or have you been somewhere where there are big quakes? What were you doing when you experienced a quake, and what was your first thought? Did you know straight away it was a quake, or did you think something else?
DooDoo
Experienced all the big quakes in Christchurch 2010/2011. The 7.1M/depth 10km in 2010 was at 430am. I woke instantly and knew - I genuinely thought the house was collapsing so ran outside although that was hard to do. I thought my heart would explode it was beating so fast. I left the doors open overnight for a month after that.
The 6.3M and 6.1M /depth 5km earthquakes that killed nearly 200 people in 2011 was mind-blowing in its violence- you were glued to the spot by the gravitational forces. I was in the kitchen at work and clung desperately to a doorway. The noise was totally deafening. It was just random luck if you happened to be in a structurally safe building or not, whether you were safe, injured or killed, how damaged or liveable your home was. The shallower the earthquake, the worse the effects. After months of aftershocks (had about 10000), I naturally only took direct Drop-Cover-Hold action for quakes longer than 5 seconds and over about M4.5. I started hyperventilating at the occasional bigger ones only several years later. I only ever had nightmares about tsunamis and not earthquakes- go figure.
It took five years for workers to turn up and re-level my house floor. Mother Nature rules\u2026we are just fleas on a dog\u2019s back along for the ride.

Nowadays being free means being unemployed or lazy, but what is true is that every day is a list of thousands of things to do, but once you finish them and there is nothing else to do, all you have is free time, but then people will call you lazy. In that way, most people will see you as a lazy person because you are doing nothing on your free time. In some areas of the world, being free means that you have finished your work, but in some others means that you are eating your time...

What are your experiences on pre-teen behaviours? Is it normal for them to develop a hate towards parents and start being naughty and develop foul language. Are there any tricks or advice anyone has?
Paula J 395266
When my children were pre-teens my husband was very often away, often for months at a time with the RAN so I ruled my home with an iron rod. If I hadn't my life would have been hell. They were children and had rules and rarely needed to be punished. There was no acting up or swearing, they were allowed out to play but had a time that they had to be home. I really didn't ever have a problem with any of them and they were church goers. They are all married now with children of their own, they were never in any trouble, didn't do drugs and were not drinkers. They also stayed at home until they married which was late in their 20"s. My mother always said I had turned my sons into sooks but their wives tell me a did a brilliant job with them. Because dad was usually not here my boys were quite close to me and were always very helpful to their mum. One rings 2 or 3 times a week for a chat.

Sandra C 12043
Too many apartment buildings going up in our area. We are close to the city and now the lovely old houses that are on larger blocks being torn down to replace with ugly apartment buildings. They will never last as long as these houses have and what is even harder to take is that all the lovely old trees are being cut down. It will soon be a concrete jungle. These buildings de-humanise the area and within a short time look dirty and shabby.

Should people have to pay to have their animal checked if they are just worried about a weird behaviour of their animal, if the animal isn t treated.

Being checked over is a service and yes you should pay. They have studied for years, have all sorts of equipment to buy, rent to pay, insurance for buildings, workers, etc. Utilities and so much more let alone all the stock both medical and other. They have to know about all sorts of animals not just dogs and cats. Payment is for this expertise and if they found nothing wrong with the animal that is a great result and would put your mind to rest.

Its a tricky one...you don't just know more now...you are probably quite a different person too...I don't know how I would get on with myself when I was 23....radically different to now....your life experiences have contributed a lot to who you are at the moment...if you tinker in the past you will be different in the present...its all connected and hopefully a learning experience

Others love the beach, or watching musicals, playing board games or exploring their hometown together as a family. So there s no one perfect family activity your ideas for...

Being together without contention and not having to be doing something special to have good, quality time with your family. It's the little things that matter most. Sure doing activities is great. But it isn't a prerequisite to quality time with family. Just be....and appreciate each other.

Yeah why not. A robot wont cough/breathe covid onto my food, pass on hepatitis or be rude.
In Japan they have these robot waiters which are remotely connected to customer service people - some of which have disabilities, so it gives them a job plus merges the human aspect of customer service into the android. I thought that was quite neat.

Recently, I read a report stating that the production of making an Electric vehicle was more damaging to the environment than the production of petrol driven cars. And a well maintained small petrol car in its lifetime was just as clean to the environment as an EV. I own a reliable older Toyota Corolla that keeps on going and going and think that it would be friendlier to the Environment than the current Electric vehicles for sale. What do you think about Electric...
Linda C
I'm not impressed by them. You still have to make the cars and that involves the usual stuff. You have to generate more electricity to accommodate the increase in electric cars and of course outlets all over the place. I guess we need the cons and negatives to really understand if there are any actual benefits. Of course, the world is probably running out of oil so this could be the impetus to change the fuel. My car is 20 years old and I just had it serviced and checked and it is in good nick. Mind you I have not even reached 70000ks yet so I do not drive much and most of those k's were in the first 10 years. lol

Falling prey to a con artist can be a humiliating and often expensive exercise. Many cons end in costly court cases, even imprisonment, and that's just for the victims. Just for our health's sake, we need regular check-ups at the doctors. With women needing mammograms after 50 or so, I once told my GP that checking for breast lumps would be easier if there could be a dummy that women could feel that sort of thing and was told that there is such a thing, but this practice could not afford it. Wouldn't you think governments should pay for such things?

As its 19 years to the day since my own dear mother died from breast cancer at the young age of 62, I would agree that existing products such as the one referred to SHOULD be made available. All gambling - yes, including Lotto, Keno and Scratchies, advertising should be banned. Of course no government will ever do so because our politicians are every bit as addicted to the Revenue raised as those addicted to gambling! The advertising is so unbelievably hypocritical, At the end of all those endless advertisements there is always tacked on what are little more than asides, a throwaway few words rattled off at such speed no-one can actually hear what is being said "Gamble Responsibly", Don't spend more than you can afford" and other nonsense. The advertisers simply tack those words on because they are required to do so. Recently, one of our local rural roads was reduced in speed to 80kph - this was because it was cheaper than fixing the road in the first place. The road is still terrible to drive on, but it appears the city has first preference when it comes to fixing up the roads...a local freeway was 'smoothed' over a few weeks ago, a total waste of money - we have a lot of dirt roads round here, which could have benefited from the material used to 'fix' the freeway. Only then he will roll over and go to sleep (bossy bum Maine Coon) LOL I also feed the local crows that have learnt to yell out to me at the front door when they are ready to eat lol I have had to bury many animals which is heart breaking but I wouldn't have missed a day being with any of them. I wonder just how many people here on this forum are aware that since October 2021 that the Australian government can hack, quite legally, your social media accounts and alter and delete them for any reason whatsoever? It's called the Identify and Disrupt Bill which was passed at 2am on a Wednesday late in that month. Go and look it up on the Australian government website if you don't believe me. I was told this by my son who happened to be working with some Barristers who were visited by a man called Arthur, whom our previous female Premier in NSW had been in a relationship with at that time, just so people don't think I'm writing this with the view to commit some kind of fraud! I cannot watch MSM any longer because my research outside of this alleged "media sources" has led me to scientific research and resulting evidence leaving no room for me to conclude anything other than the following: that what is "news" content, at least as it relates to the"magic potion" killing and maiming people across the planet, is simply propaganda and theatre. I did not draw this conclusion without facts empirically derived from Researchers, Doctors and Scientists of many varied disciplines and I KNOW that my own government has lied and continues to lie about their own involvement in this charade. This is backed up in previously confidential documents detailing the Australian Military's involvement from decades ago of weaponising biological organisms through gain of function research and funding the same. I can say with clarity that freedom has never been SO under threat as it is now, not only because the government can come in and change your own words and remove them as they see fit, but because of the terms "misinformation" and"disinformation", but WHO decides this? I can see Big Tech's involvement but who among you are aware of the infiltration of WEF members, of whom Big Tech plays a leading role, in terminology used to discredit certain viewpoints. Just as the CIA coined the term "conspiracy theorist" to describe someone who thinks outside of the mainstream narrative and make them out to be "kooks", so too have Google, You Tube Twitter etc, who are all partners in this globalist agenda for a NWO where there will be no choices, no ownership of anything including your shoes, and certainly no privacy or freedom! If we lose the right to voice our own opinions today they will be gone tomorrow and NEVER return! If we don't want to live in a smart grid with cameras recording our every movement as it already is in China and adopt their credit score system, we all need to think about what it will be like for our children and THEIR children if we don't now say that enough is enough! Thanks for reading this.

The Australia's government in some areas have made it compulsory indoors or out to mask up or cop a $200 fine & as some believing it's their right to NOT wear one should they be made to pay their own medical bill's or the rest of the tax payers pay it for them?

Only if there is an outbreak. I'm fortunate to be living in Perth where there has been no community transmission for nine months.

Should the government step in to enforce stronger penalties for animal cruelty.? Should the SPCA be given more power legally to remove animals at risk and enforce penalties and fines? Should the government have a task force to deal with animal welfare in general, especially on farms and in factories and abattoirs.

Stop the breeding,
Humans can’t care for themselves let alone another species,
When will we learn that the planet isn’t here to entertain us.

As of 2020 the global life expectancy is 72.63 years. If you are given a chance to live to 100 years old, how do you wish to spent it? What will you do from today?

Free range and pasture raised chickens are much healthier for consumption and animal lifestyles. Allowing chickens to run free encourages their egg development and lets them live happier and healthier. Farmers should work to introduce more pastures for chickens.

Why do people pay good money to buy ripped and torn Jeans that make them look like they can't afford new clothes, because I don't care how broke I am , I refuse to leave the house wearing rags.

Yes I personally don't like the look either, but fashion is what it is. It's the same as the messy hair look or beach hair look, people spend money on products to recreate a look they can achieve naturally because they want to appear effortless because it's seen as desirable, when actually they are the exact opposite. I guess I just don't care enough about fashion.

I have just spent about 45 minutes washing my car, and oh my lord, the amount of white paint where people have scraped my car getting in and out of a parking space is unbelievable. How hard is it to pull into a parking space and back out without touching the car next to you? I think it would be extremely helpful if the shopping centres installed CCTV so we could see who was doing this. I know if I have a bad enough one I get to pay the excess for any repairs that need...
MoB
I park as far away from the shops as possible. Most cars that have trouble getting into a shopping centre carpark are four wheel drives. I think shopping centre carparks should have a separate area for these big cars to park in. They don't only cause trouble when they are parking but make it impossible for a small car to see around them when trying to get out of a car park.
