Discussions of the day

All families come in different way of life, such as having kids behave, obeys, helpful etc. then you have families having kids that they want a servant for them, don't obey, spoiled like a brat & claim to be rich. When these type of children fall into bad habits, it is so hard to steer them into the right direction. Parents/carers can or can't control children many times. How do you feel by teaching them a life lesson that is away of all gadgets that distract them at all hours of...

From regular panic attacks on day-to-day basis to an unexpected panic attack before for example flying - how do you manage your everyday life? How do you overcome anxiety?
Joy G
I have suffered from anxiety for over forty years. I have tried everything that I come across. I take medication but it doesn't seem to help much. I have tried many hypnotherapist, talked to many counsellors, psychologist, psychiatrists. I have tried numerous herbs, CBD oils and medications, relaxation techniques, crystal therapy, and the list goes on. I still have anxiety. I don't believe there is a cure. There are techniques to help after anxiety hits but no idea (sadly) how to overcome it.

We love traveling, and have just done a big trip to Europe and The UK. While we were there we were asked a lot about Australia and of course we told a few pork pies (exaggerated truths). What is the best one you have told? The one we used to tell American sailors (before internet) was that the Harbour Bridge was closed every day at 5pm for the Kangaroos to cross. It was amazing how many believed it. While crossing from Spain to Italy by...
Linda C
Heck we do not have to tell Porkies, our truths are enough. We have the most deadliest spider/s, deadliest snakes 9 of the top 10, Kangaroos that attack, Dingoes that attack, Sharks, Sea Snakes, Stingers, Blue Bottles, Stonefish, Box Jelly Fish, Salt Water Crocodiles, Cone Shell, Blue Ringed Octopus, Paralysis Tick, and the list goes on and any one of these are deadly. The European Honey Bee is also a baddy. Never had to make anything up. However, one American asked if we could see Uluru from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and of course I said yes but I did educate him after I took the mickey.
However on the plus side we have a beautiful country with unique animals, flowers, trees, etc. A huge rock in the middle of the country and the largest coral reef, we have wave rocks, canyons, deserts, water falls, mountains, stunning beaches and wide open spaces. Our country is diverse with so much beauty to see.
Actually, Kangaroos have been known to cross the Harbour Bridge so not such a porky.

On August 15, 1971 if my memory serves me correctly, president Nixon temporarily suspended the redeemability of USA notes back into gold. So from that point, the currency issued only has the promise of the government to make good on those notes. If you take a look at the indebtedness of most countries governments, this temporary action by president Nixon is fast becoming a world nightmare. Do you think it's about time to re introduce gold and silver to back currencies, or do...
BLACK LIVES MATTER
One, your memory doesn't serve you correctly, the first president to take the USA off the gold standard was FDR in 1933. Two, you are deliberately confusing personal debt with the debt of a country (a stigma comes with personal debt - not the debt of a country). Three, every 'country' on this planet has debt (including Saudia Arabia, Kuwait and China - supposedly the three richest countries on the planet). Four, not any countries have enough gold (in reserve in their country) to cover its debt (including China, Saudia Arabia, or Kuwait). Five, if the world economy went back to the gold standard, the world economy would immediately go into chaos (and a full-scale depression). Six, you 'never' hear international banking firms, international accounting firms, international law firms, or international think tanks (firms), etc. advocating for a return (back to) the gold standard. Seven, your plan will only work if you are advocating for ANARCHISM. Eight, cryptocurrency is a digital currency designed to work as a medium of exchange on a computer network that is not reliant on any central authority, such as a bank or government - to uphold or maintain it - aka a 'SCAM' on the streets of USA (in rough neighborhoods). Last, cryptocurrency 'only' works if you are 'gullible and greedy' - it is not a long-term viable solution to replace a monetary system that doesn't work (anymore 'except' for the benefit of the rich or the super-rich) - aka CAPITLISM.

As a freelancer, I'm seeing more and more AI technology surface. I get excited but at the same time have doubts. What are your thoughts on the future in AI technology?
Bernadette S 103492

Sydney is going to have a advertising campaign to try and convince residents to stop flushing undesirable objects down their LOOS. It blocks the sewage pipes when they do this, and it's not good for anyone to have this happen. Wipes are not permitted...but its many other things being flushed including oils and even toiletries...etc. Do you think some do this on ---purpose...or do you think they are just thoughtless and careless?
Paul B 522937
This is a pet subject of mine, I’ve been in the plumbing business for over 50 years and in that time I have seen strange articles stuck in drains
Often children put toys in the loo and in England there was a man at the water treatment station employed to look for still births. One really common article was a sanitizer that hung on the rim of the loo. It was just small enough to disappear from sight but never went any further. The clear water could pass but solids would accumulate . I must have cleared hundred out over the years until they made them bigger

Betrayal is a breach of trust and can feel very much like grief. Is it possible to truly move on? Have you ever undergone a huge betrayal? If so, how have you sought to process these lies?

My twins are 9. They would like to walk home from the bus stop, is 9 too young to let them do this?
Bugalugs
Depends on how mature they are. Do they know Never to speak with anyone they don't know or who have not visited their Mum and da at home?
I thinke Lorne M, below, has got it right. Safety in numbers.
They Must also klnow that there is to be no wandering off simply because they feel like it and that they Must come straight home and then, with your permission go off with other kids so that Mum/Dad knows where they are going.

Even without kids, many couples stay in loveless marriages, and there are a few reasons why. Many want to avoid talking to their spouse about how they feel about their marriage because they want to avoid hurting them. However, not communicating can be even more hurtful. Couples also stay together due to social norms. Do you think that a marriage last without being in love?
Tipster
My parent used to argue by appointment, Dad was one of those "yes dear" husbands who never wanted to rock the boat, but they were able to show affection even after 50 odd years marriage. They never seemed to argue, so occasionally they would get into a barney about the wrong colour loaf of bread, or something equally ridiculous, and afterwards life would return to normal

Your mother has met a man only 6 weeks ago, and tells you she is about to marry him. You found out some information about her new husband to be, and this information is extremely distressing. You tell your mother, but she still marries him. Do you attend the wedding?
Roy R 1009866
6 weeks is much too short a period of time to decide to marry unless the man is 99 with a foot in the grave and a few million in the bank, then it should be "where do I sign up"!

Falling victim to a scammer is an awful feeling. It s not only the theft of money or personal information that stings, the thought of being tricked by lowlife crooks is enough to enrage anyone. Statistics show more than 95 per cent of Australians are exposed to telephone, text and internet scams each year. Even more alarming is the amount of money these thieves are stealing from us. Last year it exceeded three billion dollars. Is there a meaningful solution to stopping scammers...

I am reading many books in English and find it odd that to keep something to yourself is considered telling a 'half-truth' or being deceptive. I don't find it deceptive or a lie. That is their choice to disclose or not to disclose. Something are better left unsaid. I would like to know your feelings on this.

Did not understand your question, but 'I think' you are asking the following: Truth is a generally accepted outcome or reasoning while Fact is a proven Truth. Fact is true but not all Truths are Facts (aka Half-Truths). Other words, Facts are more objective in their nature whereas Truths are more subjective in their nature (which can/will lead to Half-Truths).

So you decide on a washing liquid or powder for your washing machine...but however much you paid...you really need another additive to get your clothes really clean ... and the colours bright ... and then you need another product to wash your machine AFTER washing your clothes ... this is getting really silly ... why not just have one product that does the lot ...or are we just being conned? What do you think?

With the rise of social media, there has been an increasing concern about the potential impact it can have on mental health. Social media can be both a positive and a negative influence on mental health depending on how it is used. On one hand, it can provide a platform for people to connect with others and express themselves. This can be beneficial for those who may feel socially isolated or lack a sense of belonging. On the other hand, social media can also be a source of stress...
JANET R 328390
As far as I am concerned - we all have a CHOICE. We can choose to limit the time we spend on social media or we can stay on it most of the day. If it is used for the RIGHT REASON it is fantastic - or you can ALLOW IT TO CONTROL YOUR LIFE and hence your health. YOUR CHOICE. Do not blame social media for the impact on someone's health. It is NOT social media - it is the PERSON USING IT.

I don't think we have chivalrous gentlemen anymore, or they have been put off by these women who don't have the slight bit of feminine wiles. I was married to a pig who was incapable of even uttering a kind word or compliment. I did have a young man who gave me his seat at a funeral and another older gent who opened a door for me. I was very grateful and thanked them. and yes it is too over commercialized. You don't need to spend a bomb or be ostentatious to tell someone you love them.

I recently took on a position and found myself in such a toxic work environment (in a Professional office) that it literally made me sick for two months. When the issue was addressed about where the behavior was coming from, it was put off as a "misunderstanding" because I was new. Many people say never go to H.R because it makes you look bad and because it won't be resolved. It will be investigated but if no proof because the toxic atmosphere happens when the boss...

In my last job a woman who thought she was my supervisor (she was in fact a co-worker) said “do you think I give a &@^% about anything you have to say”. Not willing to put up with that behaviour I walked into my boss’s office and handed in my immediate resignation. He asked why, I told him and he asked me to wait for 10 minutes whilst he sorted out the matter. He called a department meeting and made her apologise to me in front of everyone. I stayed at the company for many years and was very grateful when she was transferred to another location.

Why is everyone giving this incredibly intelligent and well informed girl so much grief? How much do you know about her? The Matrix summed it up: We are a virus! It is time we love our earth mother. Why are foreign owned companies allowed to pretend that they are local... Energy Australia for example is Chinese....why are they not legally obliged somewhere to state that this is an International company....the other strange thing...why don't companies that ARE local point out this to their customers either?...to me that is a very important reason for choosing them...what do you think?

As many women know, being in a relationship with a guy who is not fully matured can be a difficult situation. To give a little context, I have been in a relationship for over a year with a guy who s quite young and doesn t fully understand the ways of a relationship and how to make the girl happy. There have been a lot of issues where there is no communication, yelling over little things, shit talking / letting his friends talk bad about me, never taking me out, complains...

Why are you still with him. The old saying "a leopard never changes it's spots" is true. Some partners might temper their actions but it usually comes back out again. Firstly he is younger than you and this is not really the ideal situation. You are being a doormat. He disrespects you big time. You are there just to do his bidding whether it be cooking, cleaning, physical or financial. Get some respect and leave or if it is your place ask him to leave immediately.

In a cost of living crisis, if you are a parent that has children under 5, would you reduce your work hours so that you pay less in childcare, or find a new job that pays more, so you can afford childcare? If you reduce your work hours, the risk is that you might have to change to a lower paid job, which risks your future career development. If you look for a new job to afford childcare, you risk adding more stress to a busy family of young children. What would you...
Bugalugs
If you have a partner why don't one of you stay home and look after your own children? I, and I think many others as well, get sick to death of hearing parents complaining about the cost of Childcare, that it should be Free - which simply means that other Taxpayers - some of whom have chosen not to breed - are expected - or rather it is considered their Duty - to pay for the rearing of other people's children.
If you want children then make up your minds to bring them up yourselves and put up with the inconveniences BUT do Not expect others to do it for you. If you are not prepared to rear your own children then don't have any - there are far too many people in the world already so that could be part of your contribution to addressing Climate Change!

I do believe the technology era is making us part of it too. How will people feel in the future when machines replace essential jobs? And then not essentials, but as many as machines would cover. Can you imagine coming to school without a teacher? Can you imagine coming to a supermarket without the usual counter stuff or people who sort out all food on shelves? Can you imagine buses and trains without drivers? No doctors or nurses, no postman, no barrister or...

There is a place for technology. Personally it has spread my "social life", Can chat with people I have met from other countries. Some people deserve to lose their job to machines, at least machine might be polite and actually try and help.Maybe a machine will not indoctrinate child to their own views as many teachers do.There are pros and cons. Guess maybe if/when a machine could show artificial emotion [as many people do] they may work in better

There are a lot of different ideas when it comes to what age a child is old enough to have a pet of their own to care for and be responsible for the needs of the animal. What is your best guess as to when a child is old enough to take on that responsibility? All kids mature at different rates, so keep that in mind and if you have a personal situation in your family or a family you know of going through it, please share what's worked and what hasn't. Driving into the hills one day the forecast was rain, as I got to the top of the road I was on and turning left I saw in a paddock a herd of goat, what struck me as odd was that every goat about 25 all stood facing the same direction and not moving, it's not the first time I've seen this. Couldn't help think that the devil's pet is a goat, or was it just something like the forecast for rain?

People can be influenced by lots of factors. Content can be really relevant for our decisions, being a more obvious persuasion, such as an ad, or a more implicit one, such as the memes we see on the internet. Memes can make us decide to listen to a song, which we start liking as a joke, but some days later it is already on your playlist. Who did not start listening to Never Gonna Give You Up or Super Idol after the memes? Memes can make anything irrelevant become...

Memes don't interest or influence me in any way. As for social media I have FB only with messenger only to keep in touch with family & friends in another state or overseas. I would have liked to have done History and Art History, and Car Mechanics. Not that the latter was offered at our Religious girls school back in the 70s n early 80s. A class on how to avoid getting very drunk and making a total ijit of yourself would have been useful too.

When I was 15years & 10months old, I met the man who was to become my husband. I actually asked him if we could get engaged as he was due to go in the Army & do his 2 years national service. I waited till he came out of the army so when I was 18 years & 1 month, we had a white wedding which was a dream of mine. This coming September we will have been married for 62 years. We have had our "ups & downs" as they say but we have always been able to sort them out. If I had my way again, it would be exactly the same except for a bit more travelling than what we have done. I have been disabled for the past few years & he has become my carer. He now does the cooking whilst I sit at the table & do the food preparation. We work as a team & always have done. Plus I still love this man, my husband after all these years.

It's been suggested by both major parties in Australia to increase the retirement age. (The age of 70 has been mentioned.) I have a relative who retired about two years ago due to hip problems. He was a former truck driver. Lucky for him...he has enough money in superannuation to rely on. (Do you think that it should be raised?) Many are passionately driven by ethical, financial and emotional factors, but will they regret their decision later in life? And what do you reckon involuntarily childless men think about this trend?
Lynn A 461499
In this day and age, with the world's population as it is, people need to think hard before they bring another child into the world. I am a mother and grandmother who adores children, and I agree that they add so much to our lives, but many children are born to people who cannot offer a stable home with loving parents who are prepared to make the sacrifices needed to be a good parent. Rather have people voluntarily deciding they do not want to be fathers, than carelessly doing so, then regretting that decision. I do agree that a person in his very early 20s may occasionally regret their choice, but doctors do not do a vasectomy without questioning why the man wants one and ensuring he is aware of long term results of that decision.. Sometimes a vasectomy can be reversed, as suggested, but as long as any future partner is made aware of the choice that has been made, I feel a man is entitled to his beliefs and decisions about his own body just as a woman is.

Most people don't love or enjoy their job, and even more people are overworked, exhausted, feel like they have no control over their life because of work. There's a huge difference between an empty fatigue and a gratifying exhaustion. Yet even if it is the latter, we ought to watch ourselves, we are of no use to anyone, if we compromise our career/occupation & health longevity. Have you ever suffered from a burnout?
Annette D 716821
I do love my job. A lot. But am still at risk of burnout if I don't look after my self care needs. Learning the signs, and having a wellbeing plan really helps.

Recycling is a positive thing...but REUSING is the best way of reducing our carbon footprint and it is STILL not a priority...half the salt and pepper grinders in the supermarket cannot just be refilled...there are more now than 5 years ago...bottles, containers and jars that cannot be resealed...plastic packing that is designed solely for one use...why?...is no-one paying attention?
Belle S
We've gone from paper everything to plastic to save the trees, now they are trying to reverse it back. We had an incinerator in our back yard, which alot of home rubbish was put into it & burned. They decided it was against the law & incinerators were removed. Maybe bring back the incinerator & maybe, we wouldn't have so much landfill like back in the 70's/80's. Like fashion, goes out of style but eventually comes back. Our Government needs to stop fixing things that aren't broke & working well with the planet & fix things that aren't working.

Do we respect the law anymore, do we take the police for granted and not treat them properly, or have they abused their power so much we don't trust them anymore yet when we are in trouble it seems they are the 1st to be called, myself I respect the police a lot, they deserve it and have a horrible job to do

THEY SHOULD BE RESPECTED FOR THE WORK THEY DO BUT, THEY SHOULD REMEMBER THEY ARE PEACE KEEPERS NOT EXECUTIONERS AND TRY A LITTLE RESTRAINT AND IMPROVE THEIR TRAINING

Maybe I am old-fashioned, but I really do not need to see advertisements for men s underwear, (with the real thing), gambling apps (when there are so many struggling with gambling) and feminine products . The latter I find distasteful. So many advertisements also seem to be misleading. In general, I am very resistant to advertising
misfortune8
You find feminine products distasteful, Shirley? 50% of the population need, will need or used to need them! Mum bought me old-fashioned Modess when I was a kid - then I found out about more modern options & was incredibly thankful for them.
My Nan never got the period talk, so she thought she was dying when it happened - a stranger had to comfort & explain it to her. That's outrageously unfair to a kid! Nobody wants to talk to their kids about condoms, either, but it's better than having your kid contract HIV, hepatitis, &c. Ads can prompt questions or provide a lead-in to further discussion.

Australians are getting fatter. And experts say diets just don't work in the long term. But should we be looking at this debate differently? Can you be fat and healthy? And are people resorting to surgery too soon?
Smiley
I believe that some can be both overweight and healthy.
As a teenager, i was the "fat kid" and always picked on, but it was also during these years that i was at my healthiest. I went for 15km walks at least twice a week, i was quite strong, being able to pull/push carts loaded with up to 250kgs (bags of soil/fertiliser, etc), i was quite active as well, enjoyed playing soccer and squash as often as i could, i went bushwalking and worked on the farms of family friends (fencing, marking lambs, helping in the shearing shed, digging up paddock weeds by hand/mattock, etc)
I don't think it is fair to tar all larger framed people with the same brush. Some overweight people can be quite fit and healthy, others not so much, while others are all overweight due to medication they need to take.

Do you have a loved one in a nursing home and have any tips for others that might be new to this?
JANN R
I worked in aged care for 45 years some of the staff are good but others are only there to get paid they have no empathy for the elderly I always said it would be over my dead body that my mother went into aged care but if there is no one to care for them in there home it makes it hard I moved home to be here for my mother and I am her full time carer she is now 97 and still heathy and on no medication

I've been communicating with my friend overseas for almost 3 years now, and have become quite close. With all the uncertainty in the world now, it is unlikely we will be able to meet in person. Any ideas on how to keep the relationship fresh and exciting?
Edward S 497347
The advice here starts with a question:- Have you met each other in person yet or not?
IF NOT, You do not know how well you would get on together once you do meet.
IF you have only met online and communicated online, emails and by phone, it could be risky because people online often lie and mislead the other person into believing they will meet one day and have feelings for you, when in fact they have no feelings for you and have no intention of meeting in person.
Too many scammers online.
IF you have NOT yet met in person, use a "Scammer Test" which I have divised as follows:-
1) Write a list of questions to ask the person. Once you ask him/her write down their answers; then wait a few weeks and ask him/her the same questions again...If their answers are NOT the same as the first time then you know they are lying and it's a scam.
2) Ask them to send you a photo of themselves, wait a few weeks then tell them you would like more photos of them; then compare the photos.
3) Take step 2 further and ask him/ her for a video chat; so you can confirm what they look like and if they refuse or give excuses continuously not to do that, then its a scam.
HAVING PASSED ALL OF THE ABOVE TESTS.
How much does this person mean to you?
Is the person worth waiting for?
IF yes, keep the relationship fresh by being romantic online, if you both have cameras arrange a time where you can have dinner together online...Meaning each of you at your own home, on camera, eating together.
Use emails / phone calls to tell each other about your day as if you were in a relationship face to face.
Finds things to do online together which you both enjoy doing.
Try something old-fashioned like writing long letters to each other and mailing them to each other by 'Snail Mail"...Everyone enjoys getting mail and the excitement builds up while waiting to receive and read the letter.
IF you have never met in person; NEVER send the other person money or valuable items in case it is a scam.
You said you've been communicating with your friend for over 3 years, but yet, the covid-19 pandemic has only existed for just over 2 years; therefore ask yourself and your friend why you never met in person BEFORE the pandemic hit the world.
GOOD LUCK!

Politics can be a very controversial topic. Many families are not speaking to each other over disagreements and being found on differing sides in political parties. But, if we didn't have politics, who would run the country? How would governments function? Someone mentioned getting rid of politics, which led me to ask, what then would take it's place? Or, would nothing?
Rod R 101788
We do need politics & politics is supposed to be about what's best for the majority, elections & politicians are about a popularity contest & not a popular vote - which is why I don't trust them.
We vote for the person the party thinks will win not necessarily the best leader. 'Political donations' (basically legal bribery) need to be outlawed. Calling out & jeering in parliament needs to be banned. You don't have to agree with what everyone says - that should lead to intelligent debate not being put down.
Example, Ex-PM Julia Gillard seems to be strong, independent & intelligent person & not a puppet, so she was attacked for who she wasn't married to & what she was wearing - not her politics.
Not everyone who reads this will agree with everything I wrote, hopefully leading to an intelligent chat & not that I spilled coffee on my t-shirt.

Do you think that the average citizen understands what combat troops actually experience and how this can affect them mentally? Young men and women return from combat zones where they see people being killed and are then are often discharged from the military. They then try to lead a "normal" life among people who can not imagine what the ex service person has experienced.
Derek T 647795
Am ex navy, no war service, still difficult just being away from family without the combat side of it as well, Politicians should do more for them post service, but they won't!!

Do you keep anything as a pet that's a bit different? I have lots of pets but I love my Green & Golden Bell Frogs
Nola B 392757
This is probably off the subject, but I have a theory. lol When we went into lock down the air became cleaner (fewer cars on the road) and there was less rubbish around town. The birds started chirping around 4am every day (I wasn't the only one that noticed this). So now I feed the wild birds...well not so wild if you count the crows that call for me at my front door. I like to look after the crows because they are Aboriginal talismans...bossy bums lol I also feed a variety of other wild birds seagulls, wattle birds, different parrots etc. Nothing goes to waste. People probably think I am weird putting a fresh container of water and food scraps on my front lawn every day...but they clean it all up everyday LOL

They say that the dishwasher saves water. Do you believe this is true? or is it a way to sell dishwashers. I wash dishes by hand and believe I am saving water compared to letting a dish washer run for one hour to wash dishes. I might be wrong. What do you think?
Danielle R 478487
There is no way that you could use more handwashing dishes. Not unless the tap was on the whole time. It's like comparing having a wash at the handling to having a shower.

Elon Musk and Geoff Bezos are spending millions taking people who will also pay enormous amounts of money into space, but could the money be better spent? For one thing we have Covid we need a cure for, then there's Cancer, MS and Parkinson just to name a few. I saw a program recently about a man who lost his face in a fire and had to get a government grant to fund a face transplant. That is a pretty sad state of affairs. At least Bill Gates is providing...

One of the things most don't know about me is that I'm into Poetry. I like the detail and description written in clever structure :-) Example : This poem somehow reminds me of an Indiana Jones movie I watched!
With Humble Heart
by Alexis Karpouzos
All this universe,
to the furthest stars,
all beyond them,
is your flesh,
your soul.
And one day,
under the great sky in solitude and silence,
with humble heart shall I stand face to face with the abyss, then, I think, i will understand why there is such a play of colors on clouds, on water, and why flowers are painted in tints, why there is music in leaves, and why the waves sending their chorus of voices to the heart of the listening earth when I sing to make you dance.

I read on a news site that one of the most common reasons for dumping a partner is due to their finances.... or lack of! So basically...some people will get dumped if they don't measure up to their partners expectations in regard to money. Men are at most risk according to studies done. This does not surprise me! Do you consider this to be unfair, and very shallow way to treat someone, because they don't have much money in the bank?
NIkki C 592380
My partner and i keep our finances separate. We met later in life and have accumulated different amounts of “wealth” . We also have children from other relationships. Anyway, getting back to the topic although i have more, it certainly doesn’t mean im more worthy but it can be … annoying when he cant afford things. And before you say “why don’t you shout him” im not meaning going out to dinner. I mean investments, renovating, bid ticket items .

I recently bought a rather expensive car stereo online from another country and it was faulty, I sent the unit back and they repaired it and I now have it, but the communication just wasn't there, I haven't been reimbursed my courier cost and the only way to contact them is through messenger which I now have, this makes me nervous buying online when you have bad service and there is nothing you can do when its another country. What do you do?
JANET R 328390
No way would I buy anything like that from overseas. For me - if I was in your situation - I would definitely never do it again. Much better to buy from a local store and have them responsible for returning the faulty product. I am not saying you are wrong - just my opinion. Thanks for your comment - it is a valid point.

Should political Donations be stopped, or reduced? If we did that however there is a risk the smaller political parties will suffer, be less able to compete. Saying that, the bigger parties have too much influence. What's your take on this?
JAMIE D 156261
Stop the corrupt leftists for sure. Facebook, Google etc shouldn't be allowed to fund the demorat/communist parties!
Next they will fund Australian and UK Labor parties.
So yes, ban funding altogether

If you had the chance to change anything in the world and it could only be one thing, what would it be? Would it be for yourself or for the world? Would your change effect the world or only yourself? :)
Lynn A 461499
I would change the pay-scale of politicians so that it became a job which only genuinely caring people get, not for the power and affluence as is the case now. It should be a position of caring for others, but at the moment it is a case that they seem to always put themselves first and foremost, (continually voting themselves increases in pay), not the people they supposedly serve. More people like the former president of Uruguay, President Mujica, who was said to be the poorest president in the world. He donated 90% of his salary to charity, chose to continue living in the farmhouse he shared with his wife, and drove an old VW beetle when he could have lived in luxury.

Linda C
I had a photo taken for my passport and it was horrible and I aid I did not like it as it did not really look like me and this woman says "It's funny how we perceive ourselves as better than what we are" I thought how nasty. Left and went elsewhere and got a much more accurate and nicer photo.
She was either jealous of other women or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed but it stayed with me and I am now 71. Imagine if I was a teen and someone said that to me. I was 40 at the time and going through a nasty divorce so it did imprint a bit negative on my self esteem.

Your life experience from encounters from insects, animals or any other creature that has attacked you or bitten you. What was it, you encountered? How did you deal with it?
Bung,
Bitten by a Tiger sake in Victoria Australia when I stepped into its path.
It struck 6 times. 1 dry bite and 5 penetrated. Neighbour wrapped wound on foot up to thigh and called ambulance. She actually saved my life by taking this step.
6 days in Intensive care, 3 in recovery. 3 days home then back today hospital as strike area became Septic. 4 more days in hospital.
Never felt so i in my life, brought on by both the venom and two doses of anti venom, one brown snake and one tiger snake dose just to ensure they covered me in case I
may have incorrectly identified snake. I hadn't but better safe than sorry.
18 months later all areas affected such as liver, kidneys and taste finally were ok.
Something I will never forget.
Snake slithered away. He was about 5ft long.

I was reading about a woman (on twitter) whose 19 yr old daughter found a distinctive earring in one part of Sydney and then days later her 13 yr old found the exact same earring in another part of Sydney. Both had picked them up and not realized they had a pair until days later. It could be that they are a popular design, but in any case still a coincidence that siblings found each separately. Have you experienced any extraordinary coincidences?

I understand science's relationship to technology, but I am not talking (or writing) about that. I mean, in terms of viruses. Like the fact that a virus can escape from a lab, in the first place. I mean, I understand, the cures and trying to find an antidote, but when is it bordering chemical or biological warfare and when is it for an antidote? Basically, is there such a thing as TOO MUCH science?

Like all things there is good and bad. Science gave us the Atom Bomb and yes maybe the covid virus (unproven yet) but it has given us many good things also. There has been a bit of talk recently about raising the age of responsibility, from ten, to about 13, 14, in Australia. When a child commits a crime, should they be held responsible at the age of ten, or under? Does it also depend on the intelligence of the child? Your thoughts?
Therese M 73305
They will never learn right from wrong if they just get a slap on the wrist..I don't know about other countries but Australia there are alot of juvenile crime I ask the questions where are the parents ??? Why are kids out very late at night??? Can they control their kids?? Make the parents pay for damages or the stolen car perhaps they might spend time with their children instead of just collecting government money and using it for their own uses drugs gambling and alcohol .with my kids I knew where they were and who they were with and was definitely home by certain times
04-Jun-21

I don't have any children, but I know more than a few parents, (and their kids), who were/are home-schooling. What do you think about the idea of schooling your children at home, these days with the way things are, well, quite frankly going to pot, in society as a whole. Are there still advantages to H/S? and do they make up for the changes that would necessarily have to occur in the family dynamic for H/S to start with kids who have been at public/private schools...
Christine M 323842
Homeschooling and online learning are two totally different things.
To homeschool your child, you need to get approval from the Education Department, and need to demonstrate to them the level of work that is being achieved. It is hard work, and you need to link in with other homeschooling families in order to share lesson plans and ideas, organise excursions etc. It becomes its own school community.
It’s not a choice that I would normally make, but was left with no other option for my 13 yo daughter at the time.
Unfortunately, as several people have said, some schools and teachers, are not that great at teaching. In fact some educational environments are so caught up in worrying about things that are not important like, wearing the right coloured socks, not mixing any summer uniform with winter uniform, making sure children have their hair in one of 28 approved hairstyles like Kim Jong-Un, that they forget they are supposed to be providing a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment.
Teachers are often the bullies. They have no life experience as they have never left school, so have no understanding of what’s going on in the lives of their students, and how to engage them. Schools and teachers (mostly) are not that good for many students.
What is needed is an improvement to our education system.

I notice that many who don't eat meat (vegans, some vegetarians) are ready to throw punches at those of us who do. Our morality is questioned many times, alongside our sanity. The same with some of us who eat meat, I've see fists thrown at those that don't eat meat, as well as, insults. Here's a solution, let bygones be bygones. Can't we all just get along?
Elizabeth T 396096
I really wish these militant vegans and vegetarians would show the same respect to meat eaters as we do to them: I do not try to convert them to be meat eaters or give them lectures on why a diet including meat is best or how some plant based crops use more resources than animal farming so WHY don't these vegans/vegetarians do the same?

I changed I stopped drinking to make things better but he was still struggling. He said I gave up on him and we were supposed to be together til death do us part. But I was losing my mind over him. What do you think?????? Now he’s been living in an Rv trailer…..so long story short, don’t stay if you’re not happy

When I was younger, I was always having holidays with my children, but now they are grown up and have their own lives. Should I still try to spend time with them in the holidays?
boy blunder
time spent with family is always worthwhile most of the times , my kids tend to treat me like a kid now because technology has surpassed my level of understanding, I had no idea my seniors card had a free bus pass on it until I spent 2 hours walking home having forgotten my wallet and I don't have a phone, where are all the phone booths ,I don't know life is moving way to fast

We are in the process of looking for a new home. Finally, we settled on a suitable property in our chosen location. We decided to offer the full price asked for. We thought we were getting a good deal. We tuned up to the Estate Agent's office to pay our deposit and were extremely upset when he told us that the price listed was a starting point for negotiations, not a fixed price, and that the sellers now wanted 30K more. Would we agree? No, I felt...

Gazumping is legally if it is based on a verbal offer; however, gazumping is illegally if it is based on a written offer (without stating the listed price was a starting point for negotiations). Still a lack of business ethics (under both circumstances) - which shouldn't surprise anyone on this planet (aka Earth)! FYI: Caveat Emptor applies in all business transactions (verbal and/or written)!

The fact is that overtourism is getting worse in cities where Airbnb is heavily restricted: in Amsterdam or Barcelona, the introduction of stringent restrictions on short term rentals have coincided with a steep increase in guest nights driven by hotels, and a surge in accommodation prices for travellers. Have you ever experienced overtourism?
Paula J 395266
I experienced it in Shanghai. As I stood looking at the lights along the riverside a crowd of Chinese people who were tourists came past and somehow sucked me into the middle of the them. They were so crowded together I wasn't able to get out and was dragged along with them. I felt pretty stupid as I was far taller than they were but clearly they are very used to being "together". I started to feel afraid as I had no idea where "we" were going so I fought harder and eventually I was able to get out at the back by slowing down. Then I had to find my husband who wondered where I had got to because one minute I was there but the next gone. I walked back as he walked forward and I was very happy to see him. I am now very wary of crowds.

While money is important for meeting basic needs and providing comfort, education has the long-term benefits of personal growth, opportunities, and social impact, making it more valuable in many respects. What would you say? What is more important in life, money or education?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
You can achieve an education with money. Money offers financial stability. Money brings happiness (lack of survival issues). Money provides opportunities (on personal levels and business levels). Money offers social status, etc. (the more money you have - the better society treats you). 'We' all reside on a capitalistic planet (based on personal greed and corporate corruption). Other words, on a capitalistic planet - MONEY is WAY more important than attaining an EDUCATION (aka the Donald John Trump Effect/Capitalism). FYI: Money is not the root of all evil, people are the root all evil!

I have recently heard about 29 'Urgent Care Clinics' in Victoria, Australia. I even spoke to a family member, and she also had not heard. The Clinic is available for those with severe pain or broken bones that need urgent care. It is free. They may possibly help to free the hospitals in the emergency sections. Has anyone heard of these clinics before?

If a family member divorces their mate, do you treat the former in-law as an out-law? I do not feel you should have to sever ties with someone that has been considered as family for many years. It is really hard to cut ties with friends and family during and after a split. There are boundaries. What do you choose to do? Is it different in every case, or totally taboo?

You answered yourself...."CONSIDERED as family".
When you divorce...you are divorcing THE ENTIRE FAMILY. Same as when you married...you married INTO THE ENTIRE FAMILY.
Only thing you should keep tabs on is if you had children together. You can be cordial, but you DO NOT need to be a part of their lives moving forward. And, by "their lives" I mean the rest of the family...not the kids, lol.
Cut ties, it didn't work out...oh well. You don't have to hate anyone, but you also do not have to maintain relationships "just because".

Genetics are fascinating, my sister is a mirror image of our mother looks, personality, love of fishing and camping, same taste in clothing, same tiny shoe size it's all there, they were often taken for sisters when Mum was younger. I was gifted with her medical issues thanks Mum.

My dad was strict due to his Danish family. Mum was of Scottish blood and strict but me. I am a softy when it comes to seeing hurt. My grandson is very soft and I feel his hurt and can only give him a big hard hug.

Should parents help their children buy their first home, or guarantee their mortgage? What about buying an investment property? What if there is more than one child, and you can only afford to help one?
Andrew C 287196
Nobody should be allowed to buy an "investment property" nor a "flip property" - it should be illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in. Anything else is just pure greed at someone else's expense and simply causes increases for house prices. 😠
