Discussions of the day

I am from 6 brothers and sisters. I feel very fortunate to have many siblings. Unfortunately, some of them can have funny attitude later in life due to the effect of their partners. Since, I am the younger sibling, I usually just take in ...
Wendy Q
Was fund whle we were younger, having an older brother meant I could go 'out with the boys' and do fun stuff, like climbing trees, lighting fires, etc, good exciting stuff for a girl.
16-Apr-22

Well I would say yes because then they already like to learn how to do work and stuff, so they don't grow up being lazy tell me what you think
Tupulua S
no, money comes later, teach them first, to help to do chores at home, so they learn the value of helping each other, helping others.. Yes earning money is good, but money is not everything. Love and education starts at home

I recently started study in NZ University. I am almost 33 years old. Furthermore, I believe education is an important part of our lives. And I feel good about it. I got very diverse feedback from others. Would you go back to school to educate yourself after 30s, 40s or even older? You have money and time for it - Would you go?
Morenita
Of course I would! After having both my daughters I decided to go back to school and so glad I did! They are now 26 and 17yrs old and I’m working in the field I went to school in. Your never too old!

This year has been ups and down for most of us may it be personally or professionally. Please share what you are most excited in the coming 2022? Are you looking forward on a more stabilising year? What's your vision and new life mission? Thanks
Bugalugs
I have Three Wishes and Two of them are achievable.
One: Getting rid of the Scandal-plagued Morrison Federal Government - The Sports rorts, The Car Park rorts, The Extra-marital affairs (Adultery) by both Women and Men, the endless Lies, the subservience to the USA and US-inspired Confrontation towards China. To rid ourselves of the most Divisive, most Dishonest, Racist Government we will need to elect large numbers of Independents to control both Houses. That way they can force whichever minority government - be it Coalition or ALP is irrelevant for they are both as bad as each other.
Two: To rid ourselves of the current Inept, Dishonest State Liberal Government of South Australia and, as with Canberra, elect large numbers of Independents to control both Houses of the SA Parliament and force the minority government - be it ALP or Liberal is irrelevant because one is as bad as the other - to act in the Interests of All SA citizens and not just their mates.
Three: To declare Australia Neutral - we can, and should, be friends with all, as we used to be until the Morrison Federal Government handed Australia over to the USA and then exacerbated the solvable problems with China by joining in with the USA's Policy of Confrontation.

Should we as parents be allowed to discipline our child without being told we are abusing our children? For example: if my child swears or does something really naughty, should I be allowed to smack his hand without it being abuse? Or is disciplining our children with a smack on the hand abusive now? Just curious to see what other parents and people think? I do timeout for my kids and a sticker chart but sometimes i think it doesn't help at all.
Sabine V
There is a difference between abuse and discipline. l was a whipped, now that's abuse. A smack is a smack and quite often you will only smack them once or twice and never again.

What do you believe happens when you die is there an afterlife having a hell do we go back to our creator or is our energy reconciled with the remainder of our soul what do you think? Are we waiting on the resurrection?
Amber 22
I hope so this life is not the best at times . I wish there was no hell I do not want any one to go there. I do think there is a good and after life hoping for a good one and for others to

The term narcissist gets thrown around a lot these days as a negative slur to label people on social media, reality TV and politics. And studies show narcissistic traits are on the rise with 10% of us exhibiting traits like self-obsession or entitlement. But just how prevalent is narcissism really?
Lachelle B
Narcissist? Murderers, paedophiles, cult leaders.........It is about those who have no moral values and feel better if they have control or belief that they are better (even in an imaginary world).

Streaming on our TVs are "period" dramas set in the 1980's..."Public Enemy" is what your dad listens to...NO-ONE uses email anymore...and Facebook is only used now by old people (over 30's)...is everyone keeping up?...whew!
Bugalugs
Old School? It is where your Teachers were only required to actually Teach you to Read, Write and do Arithmetic! They were NOT, as they are today by Lazy Parents, expected to actually bring up the children as well. Old School was when Parents taught their children Manners, how to behave but at the same time to ask endless questions which the parents should answer truthfully - no matter how awkward! To show respect towards others until that person shows they deserve none.
Old School was when Parents made sure their children were fed before going to school and at least one of them was at home when their child/children got home from school. Where Parents - no matter their Race, Ethnicity, Religion - ensured their children actually went to school.
Old School is a combination of what Parents, Children and Teachers should do. Today far too many Parents think the Teachers should do it all.

In the USA, although it has been shown that masking saves lives by keeping you safe from Covid19, many schools are fighting about this issue. What do you think?
Tupulua S
There are lots of misinformation out there I believe, masking up protects you from airborne particles what ever germs they are, especially covid germs it may be even save you from inheriting covid, and you are in trouble, I KNOW THIS I lost a dear friend because of covid. So Mask up you people

You invite the whole class to your child's 6th birthday and when you arrive you are told by one of the parents I've added my 4 year old to the party and I've paid for them to join. When handing out the thank you bags, the parent also asks for one for the 4 year old that wasn't invited. Am I wrong to thing this is rude?
Christine M 323842
When it is your birthday party, it is your choice as to who attends. This party was obviously held at a play centre or something, where you pay by head for catering and the activities are selected by the child and appropriate to their particular peer group.
If a parent chooses to attend the venue ( for whatever reason) and bring siblings, that is fine, however this does not make them part of the party, and that should be made very clear to the siblings.
Siblings etc do not get to eat the party good (order your own food for your group), they do not play the party games ( create your own fun), nor are they entitled to a lolly bag at the end ( if there are spares, they may be offered).
This is how it has run in my social circles when the children were young.
Children are entitled to have a special day with their friends without some annoying little tacker imposed upon them.
This woman was rude and entitled and made an awkward situation for you.

A colleague recently had three vehicles stolen plus other property by three teenagers who are not locals but travel regularly to our town to commit robberies and wilful damage. A policeman was seriously injured when one rammed a stolen car into his police car. Police state they are well known and have a long list of offences going back some years. How are they able to continue their crime sprees 'just for fun' with no regard for the trauma, costs and damage they cause?...
Jenny L 591463
Arrest the parents, casterate them so they can't have any more brats. Throw the teenagers into boot camp for a few years. Unfortunately the crimes are being done by children as young as 8. It is out of control and some thing seriously needs to be done. They need to be accountable and no taking things off value isn't going to work as the parents don't have any thing of value. Come on they don't even value their children, letting them run around at night stealing cars.

I'm not talking love affairs, but do you have an interest, hobby, work area or cause that you are/ were truly passionate about? It used to be a saying that if you find something you love to do, you will never work a day in your life. I've always thought this would be great, but never really found anything. I've worked in areas I have had a vague interest, but it's always been more for survival than passion. Have you ? What was / is it?
Jan R 542056
I sure do. I love bonsais. I had several but had to get rid of them when we moved from WA to VIC. I will start again someday when we are settled in one place. I also love crocheting. I have quite a collection that I will sell when we can have some sort of market stall. Hopefully things will get back to normal so that it can happen.

What is you're opinion on today's banking system? Do you trust them? Do you think they put their shareholders first ... before customers? Notice how low the interest is on money in you're bank account! Credit card - interest too high. Banking CEO,s paid to much. How can the ordinary person win?
Grommie
my opinion, backed by English as it is written, Zing, is you have not shown a plural by putting in an apostrophe.
as for Banks., Banking CEOs' emoluments... it's what the market says it needs.
Credit card interest rates reflect the risk. Those risks now are greater with computer generated rippings-off.
oh and it's your not you're... you're means you are. and too not to re CEOs.
Banks are heading for the cashless society. It started with EFT-POS in NZ in September 1984, for those who remember, or in my case were involved.
Criminals have already spotted that cash won't be king, it's time the honest citizens spotted it, too.
Never waste a good crisis. Banks used Covid-19 as the excuse to close branches.
You can't beat Banks.. so buy shares in them and stop moaning.

Are people in general getting ruder, more selfish etc. or are people behaving generally in the same manner, but I m just more sensitive to it as I get older?
'smee,SWQ!
I believe it depends on the demographic Catherine! - If you learnt manners 50 or so years ago or more - you are, I believe generally quite polite but for those educated in the 80's onwards they're taught they are entitled and how dare you expect them to be polite (or anything as the world owes them a living and you'll not get in their way-smack on childish bottoms? No Way!)

We have .... Health, life, Disability , Employment, Even insurance for pet's. Do you have it? Do you think some insurance is too expensive? Have you had any issues with yours?
Rhonda D 522615
All insurance is too expensive. Whenever they can, most insurance companies will try to get out of paying. The nature of the game.

As a former teacher I get very concerned when I hear so many demands for things to be taught in school which I believe should be the role of parents. In the meantime parents complain about falling standards in basic reading, spelling, writing and mathematics. What makes a parent think a young 20 something unmarried, childless teacher is better equipped than the parent to teach things like diet and nutrition, gardening, morals, sexuality, driving, swimming, camping, etc. What do...
Rod R 101788
Teachers educate kids, parents raise kids. There is some crossover but both have their roles in creating decent humans. Kids learn from each other as well.
19-Jun-21

can carnivores change their diet - no?! - can herbivores change their diet no?! - can omnivores (humans) change their diet - no?! - humans are eating the planet up - in front of all are eyes (global warming) - humans can not agree on a plan to stop the carnage. How much time do you think humans have left on this planet - since we are all omnivores (and that is not going to change)?!
Stephan S
The main cause of all our problems is overpopulation. There are only so many recources on this planet. There is only so much drinkable water and land to grow food. And no matter what enviromental policies you put in place, more people cause more pollution..The only way out of it is srict worldwide birth control.Maximum 2 children per family
07-May-21

I heard on talk back radio that some schools are planning to stop mothers and fathers days because some children may not have a mother or a father. I don't agree with this as the children really enjoy these days and if they don't have a parent they usually have a grandmother aunt or uncle. What do you think?
Margaret C 68385
What sort of lunatic is advocating this nonsense? I didn't have a father after I was 11 - he died - but I didn't grow up all warped and twisted because my friends did. Teachers should stick to teaching the three R's. There are kids who can't read, write or do simple maths and their general knowledge leaves a lot to be desired. So glad I'm at the older end of my life - too many stupid people in the world advocating crap thee days.

Technology for all its benefits is a great thing. But how many times have you seen glued to their screens, constantly? A lot of this is because of Facebook, that keeps everybody connected, whatever we're doing, while in the background quietly gathering our data and making millions of dollars in advertising. And of course partnering very nicely with Google.. These devices are great, sure. But look at what we are giving up, just to be interconnected!!
Sandra C 12043
I have a mobile phone but rarely use it.It's therre for emergencies. Just go out to a nice restaurant and see the people texting someone on the other side of the table. Think it's the height of ignorance to use phone at the table when dining out unless you work for an emergency service. Drs, nurses, ambulance or police etc.

As humans we think if we attain something like an award, it will equate to making us happy but sadly this isn't the case. Have you ever won an award? Were you disappointed by how short-lived the joy was?
Helen A 395807
It depends on the award and how hard you worked for it. I was awarded the Howarth and Howath Prize (correct spelling) for Financial Management 3B. I had not studied economics or accounting in school and so picked it up at uni as a mature aged student. My closest challenger was a lad who was working for his dad's accounting business and was an entitled turd. I was working in the fishing industry at the time. We both went into the exam with a score of 96% and I scored 99% on my exam. I still smile at this because the students had no idea who I was and had their noses out of joint that their silver spoon boy didn't win. One for the working class!

I have noticed that the price of fresh fruit this summer is very expensive, a time of the year, when there's plenty of fruit, it should be a lot cheaper than this, I feel the supermarkets are really ripping us off. What would you say?
John 1362447
For those of you shopping in Australia electricity cost has risen by 40% over the last two years because the Government is hell bent on going to renewable power generation and on last nights news they said it will go up at least 24% IN THE COMING YEAR. This drive to renewables is going to cost a fortune and it feeds through all levels of production. In Qld they just built a battery storage to capture home Solar generated power that would otherwise go to waste, it cost $200million and if called on in a blackout it will last from 2 - 4 hours and if not called on then if the batteries are charged then the power will still go to waste.
So maybe the Supermarkets are ripping us off but price increases are being fueled by this mad rush to renewables when there are much cheaper sources of power that don't only work when the sun shines or the wind blows. I'd like to mention that the two major Supermarkets are US owned, maybe we should think about getting them back into Australian hands. Your Superannuation, $4.5trillion is mostly invested in overseas countries, have you seen the movement in the $A v $US in the last week or so, almost a 4% improvement, that equates to a 4% loss in those funds?? could do much better here if we put our mind to it.

My favourite Christmas memory is the family Christmas Party. All my mother's family would get together the first Saturday of December. We would have a BBQ cooked by my uncle and pudding made by my nanna, Whoever found the penny got a prize. We would sit by the tree and my uncles would hand out the presents.
boy blunder
every year its different but this year my little grandson Nova, and he lost a tooth yesterday because it was Christmas the tooth fairy left 20 dollars ,i was in good spirits but anyways after the unwrapping session this morning ,he asked what did Santa bring me, I told him I had been naughty and Santa didn't come, he put on a frown and went into his room to look at his prezzies i thought ,but he came back with his tooth fairy money so i could have a present, I was so impressed and proud i went down to the servo to get him some ROBLOX credit cost me 15 i gave that to him then he said i could spend 10 dollars of that 20 and give him 10 back so he doesn't upset the tooth fairy, so now i owe him 10

Have you thought about living full-time in an RV? We finally decided to do it and are enjoying it immensely. We can travel anywhere and stay for as long as we like. The warmer, the better!

It would be great except for if you get sick and need more room and a place close to amenities (hospital, doctor, medical help).

My young neighbour came round to ask if I had a Blower she could borrow to clear grass cuttings... I said no, but I had a broom she could use...she gave me a strange look...smiled and went away....she would be horrified to find nearly all my power tools have a long wire that you have to plug in to make them work...and manual tools that require no power at all...AND they all work fine and are easy to use.... But everything needs to "powered"...either a filthy 2 stroke...

too easy to hack

An inability to say "no" can contribute to being broke by leading to overspending on things you don't need or want, taking on too much work, and prioritizing others' needs over your own financial goals. This often stems from a fear of disappointing others, guilt, or a desire to please, and it directly impacts your finances when you say "yes" to impulse purchases, expensive social events, or favours that drain your resources. What would you say?
NotFriedLikeMost
People are broke because they do not live within their means. They've become addicted to NOW NOW NOW and with technology this allows for impulses to be capitalized upon...over and over again. People are slaves to debt and work....thus...slaves to over-consumerism because they say they "deserve" things. Which is insane.

I wonder and seek advice regarding one of my family members applied to a job where I am working currently. I feel it is something difficult to work at the same place with my family member. Is it possible I can discuss with my employer to place them in a different section? OR I should just ignore and work as usual. I look forward to seeing if anyone has experienced the same. Please suggest. Kishore

Getting along with anyone is 'Mind over Matter' if you think about it. We could ALL get along Anywhere and Everywhere on the earth if people would just make up their mind to do so. How do you think Jehovah's Witnesses get along so well? We're all imperfect people. The difference is we follow Jesus' example while on earth, and follow the examples given in the Bible, overlook small hurtful things that happen, talk to the person about large hurtful things, and forgive them all! Is it easy? NO! But it's required to live or work happily with family, friends or acquaintances, and it's required by our God, Jehovah! ;-D

Do you have a favourite childhood book or movie that you remember and enjoy as an adult? It s interesting that some stick more than others, and the lessons or themes that people enjoyed vary significantly. Should the government put a cap on the number of Airbnb s and holiday homes in suburbs and towns to free up housing for purchase and rental?
Andrew C 287196
The government simply needs to make it illegal to own more than the one house you actually live in. It would solve numerous such issues.

We've all heard it When are you getting married? , When are you having kids? , or Why aren t you settling down yet? But what if your happiness doesn't align with those expectations? What if your version of a meaningful life looks different traveling the world, building a career, creating art, living alone, or just being?

Be that rebel without a cause .. it's you and you alone who deals with the outcome . Take advice if you like it , or leave it if you don't .Find your tribe , have fun ,live life the way you want to do it without it adversely affecting others wherever possible. Just be true to your own morals and follow your heart. You were put on this earth as your 'Self ' so how can it be selfish to live it as you ?

If you're like me and you're an animal owner, have you noticed your vet bills have increase dramatically. We certainly did. The reason for this is Corporates are buying out Veterinarians clinics. Our vets here in Canada are selling out to large Corporates. They sell out for a small profit. After they sell, nothing changes except how much you pay. In Canada, they don't need to let people know they are Corporate. So people still think it is independently own. Corporate...

Do you think everyone should get a second chance? Why or why not? Are there situations where forgiveness and redemption should be encouraged, or do some actions go beyond the possibility of a second chance?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Strictly depends on the situation and whether you are a firm believer in giving individual(s) 'second chances'! In family matters - NO! In personal relationships - depending on 'how much' trust between the two of you was violated - MAYBE. In the political world or criminal world - NEVER! In trivial matters (of no importance) - YES! I don't believe in 'second chances' per se, unless I am the lucky recipient of a second chance (LOL)!

We drink it. We bath in it. We wash our clothes with it! The UNITED NATIONS says, by 2050, around 5 Billion people could face water shortages. Everyday in rich countries like Australia, we take water too much for granted. In times of drought we probably appreciate water more, when there is less rain. How do you think your nation would cope if you had to drastically cut back on water consumption?
Bugalugs
It is easy to not use water if you just think a bit. Yes, the makers of automatic dishwashers try to convince you that they use less water than Hand washing but then they would wouldn't they? They are trying to sell them. Do you really need to Pre-Rinse dishes before putting them into that Water and Energy sapping machine? Do you Really need to have your dishes sterilised? Do you really need to have them heated to boiling point to dry them? The answer is: NO. We wash our dishes ONCE a day, by hand and we use, at most 8 litres of water and enough Energy to have the Water at about 45C.

I have noticed that young children cannot go to the park or the beach or have a day out without a "snack" box! Has anyone else noticed this? They tend to need to graze on food, that interrupts the activity they are doing! This is so true with our grandchildren. I wonder how they get on at school?

I guess they need the energy and motivation to do all the activities. I know that running around at the park and shopping exhaust my kids.

My father was approaching his 91st birthday and asked me if I would go to his house one day and sort through his photo's because he said if he died no-one would know who the people in the photos were. I didn't have time, and I was going on holiday but said I would go around when I came home. I was having a very nice time in warm tropical weather when my son sent me a message telling me dad had passed away. I didn't get to go through his photo's with him, and I never...
Jenny L 591463
Well that can happen when the person is alive too. My Mum doesn't remember what she had for dinner the night before but remembers growing up during the war and being bombed out twice. Her short term memory is like non existent but she can still play a mean game of scrabble. Some times we don't listen to the important things because life gets busy or it not quite the right time, don't dwell on that. Mistakes happen and we have to get on with life but make sure you allow your self to grieve too. Go through his photos and remember him lovingly. After all he was your Dad. Don't hate a day because of the commercialism where it's all about spending money, Father's Day can mean so much more if you just put in a little imagination. Go for a picnic or have a nice lunch, go for a walk and reminisce the Dad you had. Sorry for your loss and he lived a long time and I am sure he had a great life. You are apart of his legacy. Remember him fondly in the things that make you unique.

Hi, my name is Alisha, and I am dealing with weight gain and I exercise a lot. What are some ways that I can lose weight?
writerrochelle
This is how I lost: Lower daily intake of calories (1200 for me at 5'2"), drink something HOT every 2 hours (tea, coffee, lemonade, and hot chocolate, at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm and 11pm for me), and only eat in an 8 hour period, fasting for 16 hours (11am breakfast, 3pm lunch and no later than 7 pm dinner for me). I can do it by drinking a hot beverage every 2 hours. I lost 1 pound a week, in 11 months, and am keeping it off, and you can, too! I'm 76! A relative received insurance money for stolen jewellery. She was instructed to go to a particular store on the Central Coast in NSW to buy replacement jewellery. Many of the items stolen were heirlooms, so it was going to be heartbreaking. At the store, she noticed there was a half-price sale. Was she lucky this time? Not really. The store manager claimed that it was policy for Jewellers to charge full price for items bought with insurance money, even though...
Robert F 1161011
She should not be told where to buy replacement jewelry or even that she has to buy any replacement jewelry at all. That's her money. It certainly looks like a scam between the jewelry store and the insurance company. For all we know it's someone from the insurance company who stole the jewelry in first place.

I see lots of people wearing jackets that are warm and puffy, but should we be wearing them? I think not. I have heard of many bad incidents with puffer jacket. My friend got roasted in their puffer jacket, it caught on fire, and it couldn't be put out, the jacket burnt too quick. Another friend of mine went missing in their jacket, was never found. RIP Jimmy. And I have also had a bad experience with puffer jackets. At school, everyone wore raincoats and I had a...
Shawn B 1061185
Check the label! Here in Canada, the law says that the manufacturer must declare how flammable a garment is. Look for the fire code on the garment. I don't know where you are "hearing" all these complaints but they are quite probably bogus. What does a jacket have to do with someone going missing? If they had a different kind of jacket they would never, ever disappear? And "The Human Torch"? What was that person doing so carelessly around a fire in the first place?
These examples sound like a conspiracy theory because some misguided 'influencer' doesn't like the style of jacket.

For me, that would have been watching too many violent TV shows. What about you? What did your parents allow you to do as a kid that you now realise was not age-appropriate?
Kim L 88315
Sent my siblings and I out for the day with no supervision. We would go to the pool or ride bikes to the other end of town, play in creeks, disused tunnels, climb a tree and stay there for hours. All sorts of crazy things.

Do you think post secondary is worth the cost? I have an MBA & love the Degree, but it came as a huge cost. If you have a Degree, was the cost involved worth it to you?
Zena 1539369
It depends what the degree is in and how helpful for your desired career. I know of a few people without a degree who make more money than those with one.

What would the Earth be like if humans had never existed? This has been the basic question of the study of the University of Aarhus, in which it has been resolved that the world of mammals would be very different. So much so that we could find rhinoceroses or elephants in Europe, for example. What do you think, would the world be better off without humans?
writerrochelle
Humans aren't the problem. Inherited sin through our original parents because of disobedience, listening to Satan, the Devil, is the problem, and from the beginning God has told us in the Bible what that caused, what will fix the problem, but not exactly when. Only God knows when it will happen. Read Matthew chapter 24. We know from the signs of the end recorded in the Bible that we are living in the last days. Soon the Great Tribulation will occur, then Armageddon, them a Paradise Earth, as God purposed it to be! I'm waiting as patiently as I can, without any doubt! Read Isaiah 45:18 in the Bible. I'm just a messenger. You can agree to disagree, or you can read the scriptures I've suggested to find the Truth! ;-D

In the freezer aisle at your local supermarket, is a bright, attractive box that contains fish in batter. The picture on the outside shows a steaming, beautiful chunk or slab of fish coated in a fine golden batter. Inside is a sad little fish fillet sandwiched between two slabs of batter/breadcrumbs...the "coating" makes up at least HALF of the contents. Then you choose a pack of meat pies... mmmm ... the picture shows big chunks of beef the pies inside are filled with cheap...
Liane H
Wow that's the best looking boxed frozen fish fillet I think I have ever seen! And I don't even like it. Companies would be floundering in the water without the strange powers of advertising.... The money or the box? .. hmmm

Wait until you have saved a comfortable nest egg, or travel while young and able? There's a conflict of opinion about whether our 20s and 30s are for exploration or hard work. What is your opinion? Is there room enough for both at a young age, or should young people be focused on securing themselves financially first (buying a house and securing a career)?
Alice L 212598
Waiting for too long sucks. I think it's better done before retirement, while one is still healthy and able bodied. But, it can still be done after retirement too, depending on personal circumstances.

Some key advantages of social media are connectivity, real-time communication, and accessibility of information. However, some disadvantages include potential addiction, privacy concerns, and the spread of misinformation. What do you reckon? What are some of the main advantages and disadvantages of social media?
Michelle S 553303
Advantages are minimal in comparison to the disadvantages and we are seeing more of those occurring in the younger generation who have really only lived a digital existence. Social media has become the mum, dad, nanny and companion to many children who are unable to live without their smart phones and without their online "friends". But the Big Tech companies knew what they were doing when they developed these platforms and now you have SM like Tik Tok which is targeted at the below 18 years population and owned by a company run by the CCP, which fills me with confidence that they have our best interests at heart, and the algorithms are not just causing terrible addiction in this age group but the kids don't know that their brain chemistry is being changed and rerouted and they can no longer concentrate for more than a few minutes at a time. Their brains are still developing and I am strongly against social media for youth under 18 years old. But the worst part of social media is the "social contagion" aspect with the way it is redefining what gender means to children enmasse and the uptick in online bullying leading to more children than ever before suiciding because of bullying occurring outside of school and in their own homes. Just a couple of weeks ago a 10 year old child killed himself because of being bullied. As a child who was bullied badly at school in the 1970's and early 1980's I at least could get away from the bullies once I left school for the day. Social media has provided a way for bullies to have 24/7 access to their victims and that's just terrible! If you weigh up the negatives and positives of social media I don't think that the benefits outweigh the negative impact that it has had on us globally. The only people who truly benefit are the owners and shareholders of these massive corporations and the kids are suffering due to their power and global influence. There needs to be more restrictions on its usage by our kids. Thanks for reading.

Do you agree, there seems to be more and more celebration days popping up than in the past? From dog appreciation day to International Women's Day, there are more new days than I thought were around. Do you celebrate them all, or just pick and choose which apply to you?
Linda 1473555
No but as they have an international Women's Day then maybe they should have an International Men's Day. Then don't forget all the other genders that are out there! I agree - way too many "days". Let's just celebrate and respect each other and have peace in the world.

What are your thoughts on parents who bring their children to day care while sick? My son has been sick for over a week because of this, and I'm told it's good for him... but it's been so stressful, and I would never bring him around others while he's sick

I know that it is hard for single mothers to stay home to look after their sick children but it is not fair to other children who are open to catching the sickness. I don't know the answer!

We mistakenly look for confidence in the clothes that we wear or the car that we drive. We seek to recover from loss, loneliness, or heartache by purchasing unnecessary items. Furthermore, we seek fulfilment in material things. And we try to impress other people with the things that we own rather than the people that we are. What are your thoughts? Why do we buy stuff we don't need?
Pamela 1464221
I am female and have never desired to be other than the way God created me. I was born from a Union of Two People, One Male and the Other Female and yet many have called me feminine man or “shemale” a coin word I hate and know that that are the feminine men and “shemales”. Now to your question. I am 68 years old and believe me I do not age but slowly will age for aging comes to all who walk and talk and live a life filled with love and caring and always ready to help others in need. My home is far away and I must return or many will suffer the fate of extinction and many more will cease to become flesh and live life on this plane. Earth must be cleansed and many must not live for all desire to have things they really have not much use for and all desire to live long lives and many will not live long merely 20-50 years and even maybe 75 years more on this planet. Man seek clothes, designer pants, designer dresses and are men and wear panties and wear brasseries and wear skirts with slits from waist to ankles and wear makeup to hide beards that come through at night when asleep and even when not asleep and even during the daylight hours. What fallacy that man have acquired to have others like me born female with female organs and female genitalia and female chest and no hormones ever taken by me. The world believe I am a pervert because I have chosen not to paint my face and not to wear perfume that masks body odor and not to speak as if I am not college educated or older than the very state that I live in which is Pennsylvania which is only 247 years old and even my best friend from High School say and has said she is younger than I and according to the Bible and I quote the passage, “let all who lie and say they are young and are old will not live and will die a quick and ugly death” for GOD Hates the liar and GOD Hates the thief and GOD Hates the man who wears dresses and wears brassiere and wears frocks to hide his penis and wears makeup and wears underpants with his penis tucked under and stretched and put hard in his backside. Most evil all, and I believe I have angered many but many have angered me and I AM GOD who have dictated these words to my chosen child and her name is Pamela Angela Mason and she loves ME and I AM GOD THE CREATOR WHO CALL all and many have chosen not to hear and still many have chosen not to live and still even many more have chosen not to believe that my chosen one is good or even smart or even have worked and saved and invested and created vaccines and babies that are beautiful and my own as well as their mother and I am Wesley George Henry, Jr. The SON of GOD and my FATHER is the ONE WHO SENT ME into this World many years ago to bring man and all back to HIM and I have tried to do just that and I HAVE FAILED where many are concerned and yet my chosen believe I AM GOOD and SMART and HAVE NOT FAILED WITH her nor her children who are MINE as well and so WE LEAVE Planet Earth for her HOME Far Far Far Far Away and then onto to MY Planet which is exactly 1821604882704010o11227633010o11622301o11402121122123124125126127128129130131132133134135136137138139140141142143144145146147148149150151152153154155156157158159160161162163164165166167168169170171172173174175176177178179180181182183184185186187188189190191192193194195196197198199200201202203204205206207208209210211212213214215216217218219220221222223224225226227228229230-999 and 100,000 light years away and I GO.

Food is food, everyone can agree with that. But what kind of things will you be disposed to eat? Will you eat bugs? Personally, depend on the bug, I will be willing to try it while travel. But will you eat any kind of mammal animal, or just the ones that are considered eatables? For example, dog is eatable in some places in Asia, but the most of the people wouldn't eat it. Would you eat rabbit or horse? Maybe those are more funny to hear, but in some parts of Spain...
Pat C 618241
As a child I was horrified to be told that our dogs were being fed horse flesh. Rabbits were the main protein food of many working class people during the Great Depression and on holidays as child I often hunted with my father for a "bunny" for dinner when we camped on a dairy farmer's property. Depending on circumstance and how desperately hungry I was I might try anything that looked like food from whatever source if that need arose.

Put the money you would spend smoking into a locked container. Given the price of them the money will soon amount to enough to buy something you need or maybe reward yourself with a weekend holiday or one of your "dreams". You may have to cut back over a few days or couple of weeks. You may need encouragement from your family and close friends.

I'm 60 this year. At work they call me "The Jedi. Not because I'm the oldest, which I am, but because I live in their words "the old ways." I don't own a smart phone, smart TV, 3-D printer or any of the other 100 things that this current generation thinks of as essential. I don't even own a credit card. I cut it up 20+ years ago when using it became too easy. I own my own house, plus an investment property, car, 2 investment Supers and $$$$ just sitting in my bank for an emergency. My co-workers are in their 30's to 40's and are in debt up to their eyeballs, living from payday to payday. They have all the latest gadgets but no real wealth at all. When I tell them this they just laugh at me. I had already owned my 1st home when I was their age. This generation is so hung up on the latest stuff and living "Now" on credit that by the time they retire they will still be renting. So yes, I don't like the future and technology. I am a Jedi/lol. But I'll tell you one thing...I'm happy that I'm the way I am. I'm worried about the current generation and their fixation on technology. All these easy options are keeping them poor and they can't see it cause everyone they know is doing the same thing. And they look at someone like me...laugh, and call me old.

I have received a message from my bank twice asking me if I had made a certain purchase on my credit card and both times it wasn't us. Somehow people have been able to get our credit card number but our beaut bank picked it up. The last one was a $4000 lunch. I contacted the restaurant asking them to report the fraud to the police but they said they were letting their bank handle it. I don't understand their attitude because if they didn't see the person ordering the food they must have delivered it, my bank stopped the purchase so why wouldn't they want to get their money back. This is why these crooks keep going, no-one wants the bother of reporting the crime to the police.

If you paid for an airplane ticket, and you were fortunate to get the window seat, would you be willing to trade for an aisle seat because someone who says they are very nervous and claustrophobic and having your window seat would help them....... Remember, this flight is an eight-hour flight, so you will be stuck in the aisle seat for quite some...
Linda C
I always take the aisle seat as I feel this is less claustrophobic than stuck in a corner albeit with a window to look out from. One has more leg room also and it is easier to get up and down from if one has to walk anywhere or do exercises. As for switching, no I wouldn't. You have been allotted a seat and that is where you should sit. If you want a particular seat then organise it pre flight.

How do you feel when you find out, the person you're dating, in their 30s & still living with their mother? Do you find this is strange & weird? Many adult children, these days, are still living much longer with their parents or either parent. Simone S 316632
I grew up as a generation that could not wait to leave home at the earliest opportunity. Nowadays it is different. There is a lot of my generation who do not want their adult children to ever leave home. I see it as a form of 'control' over their children and I also find it weird that the children don't want to leave. Unless their adult children have had a period of time living independently and have had to move back home to save money or for health reasons (either to be cared for or as a carer for their parent/s) then I find they are setting their children up to not be resilient or self reliant enough. If I met a guy who had never left home then I would see that as a red flag. Unless he was the parents' carer and only provider. That is the only reason I could accept.

While watching a lot of clips on Facebook and mainly on animal rescues. I sometimes come across what appears to be fake and possibly cruelty to animals in the making of the clips. People get paid for these clips. Have you encountered anything that may be questionable in either clips or news?
Graham A
It's more the question of what isn't fake on Facebook!! The influencers are fake...done up fake, giving fake reviews about products they are paid to give fake reviews for etc etc etc. It's a disgusting place and is has no moral boundries. I can't believe people think it is important to post pictures of 'look at me having a cup of coffee' etc. The stupidity of posting pictures of their new car with number plates showing, their new house with a street number visible, their real birthdays, telling people they are going away for 3 weeks over Christmas to the newest trendy place, the designer dog they just paid $6,000 for...it goes on and on and when they get robbed they blame everybody else.
I was a member years ago until I figured 90% of Facebook is just inane crap and all about money and letting people know that you are bored because you have nothing to do but read the stuff posted.
I HATE SOCIAL MEDIA...it's just dumbing the world down.

Some people fight for equity. Some people fight for equality. Are they fighting for the same thing or different things?
Manel 1271300
Equity associated with the net value of an asset one receives after disposing of such asset. Example, equity of your home, is the net value of it after taking out the expenses on that home.
Equality is the equal rights any person enjoys in society. Like Man and Woman or any other sexual orientation have equal rights to have their opinion heard. This is how I understood these two terms.

There are very few things (and even fewer people), I can truly say that I hate. But one of those things is Political Correctness. It is really one of the Scourges of these times. It's a noxious notion that infects people's minds with rictus fear, at saying what they truly feel. And all for nothing! The MEDIA is in business to make money - by any means necessarily - the end (profits) justify the means - (aka capitalism) - which has nothing to do with giving you unbiased facts so that you can make informed decisions!

We are lucky to live in a world where most medicine can cure your discomfort. However, the cost of living is so high that it has become a problem for people to buy medicine in drug stores. How long do you think it will be before we have total gender equality? And I mean TOTAL gender equality where women are paid the same as men for doing the same work. Look I have nothing against gender equality, but when places promote or employ people based on gender or race just to tick an equality box requirement, rather than that person being actually qualified for a job then there's an issue. Unfortunately this happens a lot, so skilled very qualified people are loosing positions to people with lesser skills simply because they're female or of a certain race. But it means the efficiency and the competency within workplaces reduces.

With so many scams escalating, I would really like to know, what is currently circulating. The latest one I got was a text message just saying "Hello". As we get used to recognising scam calls and text, all of a sudden it changes and something else starts. What is the latest one's you have received?

Thankfully my phone usually comes up with a potential scam warning. Most numbers are overseas numbers, Aussie usually. I don't usually answer calls from numbers I don't know, if it's important they will leave a message.
Emails are a bit easier to workout if a scam, claim to be from a genuine company, if in doubt always check the email address, usually a "mistake" in it.

If your neighbor's lifestyle bothered you, would you say something to them? Many people like to smoke cigarettes and marijuana, which I have nothing against. However, if you are one of those people who do not do either, but your neighbors do it non-stop, and it affects you, would you let them know?
Sandra H 2204 NSW
If that is their choice it is none of my business. What other people do in their own backyard is their business and none of mine.

Should having a pet be a right as a tenant, within reason? I see more and more people being forced to give up family pets because no landlords allow them anymore, and I can t imagine how heartbreaking that must be.
Elizabeth T 396096
I can't believe that we are having this topic again. It was already done within the last month.
In Australia, at least in Victoria, a landlord cannot refuse you on the basis of pets and nor can they kick you out if you get pets afterwards. I think that this is terrible as, at the end of the day, it is your house and your rules.
The other problem I have with it is many people that rent do not care about the property they rent to start with because it is not theirs and these type of people would allow pets to damage and destroy the house and the type of damage these tenants do, the bond is not enough to even pay for the materials needed to repair the property, much less any tradespeople to do the work.
The other issue I have is certain tenants are always behind on their rent and bills and will use pets as excuses on why they are behind. Even worse, they may not be able to afford to care for the pet (basic food and vet care) and this is abuse.
I am a pet owner but would never even think about having a pet unless I can afford it.

As a kid, fast food was a treat for me. Going to McDonald's for a happy meal was a treat. Every weekend maybe, but never every day. My question of the day is... how much is too much consumption of fast food? Can you make a balance of it? Is all consumption, no matter how much bad? What do you all think? I'm craving a Big Mac while typing this.

It’s like most things eating it in moderation is ok. So once a week or fortnight as long as you aren’t having huge portions of it. I’m always shocked at school holidays seeing parents not only buy them mcds for lunch plus the soft serve ice cream plus the frozen fizzy drink. Way to much sugar!!

Do you think genetically modified food is making people obese? It seems that when people use more and more genetically modified food they put on weight quite fast. Whereas those people who only eat food grown locally and meat that has not had hormones added don't put on weight so easily.
BLACK LIVES MATTER
If you don't trust 'genetically modified food to be safe, then don't buy genetically modified food. However, this is a capitalistic society (aka profits over people)! What do you expect when it comes to making money (short cuts are going to be involve to raise the profit ability level)?!

It's a new landscape, a foreign language, a different culture and new people. You'll never be more exposed to new things. As a result, you'll have to adapt to your new surroundings. This will broaden your perceptions and force you to become more open-minded. Do you think that taking a vacation can change your life?

Many years ago, when my fiance was about to graduate from college, and was job hunting, he told me that he had an interview scheduled with an engineering company. One night I had a dream that his interview was cancelled because the company had already gotten all the new hires they needed. The next morning, he called me and told me that is exactly what happened. I told him that I knew because I had a dream about it. We were both pretty freaked out. It was in 1975, when the job market was really terrible for college graduates. We went ahead with the wedding and just celebrated our 48th anniversary.

My dear parents have passed on & I am left with their lifetime memories of cards, letters that they have treasured & beautiful old photo's. Sadly, I do not recognise the people in many of the photo's. There are old telegrams, birth certificates, autograph books & plunket books. Dated around 1924. I would like to donate some of their memories to local museums, if they are interested. Sadly, some of their treasures mean nothing to anyone else, so I had a ceremonial burning. What...

I am not sure why it is but it seems that today the younger people are simply not interested - at least until long after all this information was available and they rejected it - in all these old photos etc. and then when they are in their middle years they start wondering and asking about the family history. I have a wealth of Family History but don't know what to do with it as the Younger ones say they are not interested and then as time goes by they become interested and then spend a small fortune of using one of those sites about Families and their History! I had a look at a couple and, sure enough, there was a lot of mention of my forebears but the vast majority of it was appallingly Wrong! They had the one of my Grandmothers married to her own grandfather! They had immediate members of my family listed as still being alive and married but, in one case, one of my sisters, who died when she was just 4 years old was listed as being married to someone I had never heard of!
I suppose we have but two choices. One is to just burn the lot and the other is to store it in the hope that some descendant will realize how important all this inforamtion is - if only to the family.

Easter Holidays are fast approaching. What traditions or special things do you do for the holiday? We tend to spend the few days as a family trying to reconnect. Usually everyone is off on their own things and work, so it gets a little hard to see everyone. The 4 day break is a nice time to catch up and enjoy the company... and eat some chocolate.

My family used to get together for all the major holidays, but since my Mom passed away, we hardly ever see each other. So sad, really.

Well hello there! If you see the title of this discussion, you will probably thinking what is one angle. Well let me break it down for you, this One angle topic will refer to a person feeling trap in one part of life. Doesn t matter love study finances or anything. If they were staying in those part, no matter how small or big the situation is, they always feel trap. If you want your self in this kind of situation, the easier decision is to seek help. I know it sound...

My wife loves these reality TV shows and as a devoted husband I have sat through quite a few hours of reality TV which to me is nothing like the real world, so I don't understand where the reality title comes in, love is blind, perfect match, farmer wants a wife and many more, I have watched, and I have an opened mind, I just don't get how the men act or the females talk, is it just the way now or is chivalry dead?
Lachelle B
Should be called 'Desperation Shows'! 10 women vying for one man, have no qualms about kissing him when he was kissing someone else an hour ago. Willing to have it all hang out, spend hours on make up and hair daily. You don't see blind, deaf, disabled people... on these 'reality shows'. Chivalry can take a back seat, should start with common decency and having enough self respect to dress appropriately. There are already too many botoxed and duck lipped women on the planet. Looking 'normal' will be the new 'in' thing one day, then you can call it a reality show.

Why is it hard to get off of drugs? The older people get. Does anyone have or has had this problem? How to deal with this ordeal
Paula J 395266
I don't drink alcohol, I have never smoked, I don't play the pokies and I have never tried drugs so why people become addicted I have no idea, and while what others chose to do is their own business I am growing tired of their lives over flowing into mine. In both Sydney and Melbourne there are injecting rooms set up for people who chose to use illegal drugs while I have to have a prescription for Mersyndol and they are about reduce the number of tablets in a packet of Panadol from 20 to 16 and will reduce the number of packets you can buy at a time to 2. So the majority of us have to suffer for the actions of a minority.

When central banks raise interest rates, the impact is felt far and wide. Mortgages become more expensive, house prices might fall and unemployment can rise. So why do central banks do it?
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Raising interest rates is a way of reducing the growth of aggregate demand and the amount of money in circulation, which can lead to lower inflation. By making it more expensive to borrow money, the Fed (USA) hopes to discourage consumer and business spending, especially on big-ticket items like housing and cars. Raising interest rates also tends to lower asset prices, reversing the wealth effect and making banks more cautious in lending. Raising interest rates might seem harsh when prices are already high, but it's intended to eventually cause a slowdown in economic growth and a drop in inflation..

If you find something do you hand it in or is it finders keepers? I lost my Fitbit, it wasn't handed in, but Fitbit said they would lock it. A few days later I saw steps, so someone had charged it and was using it. Fitbit sent me a new one as they hadn't locked it after all. I was having a cold drink with my friend yesterday when she asked what had happened to my necklace. My emerald pendant had fallen off somewhere, so far it hasn't been handed in. On my way...

I found a lot of cash left in the banking machine. It was in an area where a lot of senior people live, and it was the end of the month. First thought came to mind it must be money to pay the rent. I walked into the bank and handed it in to the supervisor. She took my name and number and thanked me. A week later I received a call asking me if I could come to the bank and see the manager. The money was indeed rent money and the person who left it in the machine was elderly. The manager thanked me for being honest about it. Good deed for the day!

Do people use manners these days, or are they not needed or outdated? One of the first words my children learnt was "ta" and if they wanted something they would point and say "ta ta". Now no-one seems to say please, thank you or certainly not excuse me. Why is that? The boy living next door to me never speaks as he walks past. He was born there and has known me all of his life, yet he has never once said "hello" even when I'm having a conversation with his parents,...

Did you ever stop and think that their son has anxiety or something else going on and he simply can't answer? The fact that you don't even think about why a person doesn't say hello back is rude in itself. Are you so self absorbed that that you think everyone just needs to behave the way you want them to? The fact his parents don't force him is a good thing.

Are drivers impatient & need to speed with even road rage involved? Do you get upset and scared, particularly when they tail gate you, right on your bumper? What do you do?
Michelle S 553303
I just want to share my brother's story here as it relates to speed and the impact this has on other drivers. In August 2019 my brother left my father's home as he had recieved a text on his phone alerting him to a change of plans on the part of the woman he had just started seeing, so instead of staying overnight with my dad as he had planned to, he decided to drive the 3 hours to see this lady. He was about to leave Dad's house but came back up the stairs to the patio, hugged my dad and told him he'd see him again shortly. My dad was only 2 weeks away from his 80th birthday and both my family and my brother's, including his 3 children aged 14, 13 and 11, would be going out fora rare family meal to celebrate. As my mother had been dead for 16 years at that time and lived alone, this event was to be a big deal! After my brother left at 7:30pm and headed out towards the freeman back to home locality, as this new lady (he was recently divorced).h2e was in a hurry to get to his destination and enjoy the company of this woman. At about 8:15pm an elderly couple just driving home saw a car flying along so fast that they both remarked to each other "well he's certainly in a hurry to get somewhere" and my brother's car went out of their view. There WAS other traffic on the road that saw my brother fly past them but I have no knowledge of their statements to the Police. Shortly after passing the elderly couple my brother hit a large rock which must have been slightly off the actual road surface and he lost control and the car was observed to flip up in the air and spin several times before landing back on earth and immediately bursting into flames. We did not know until after the autopsy that my brother died of a broken neck before the car burst into flames and neither did the couple that were several minutes behind when they came upon the wreck, nor did the other motorists who were just going about their evening only to come upon a burning crash which, although we know that a couple of men DID try to get close enough to the vehicle to try and drag my brother out, but it was impossible to do and far too late anyway! So on that ordinary August evening my brother died due to driving over 30km/h over the speed limit depriving his children of their dearly loved father, and all these innocent road users were left with nightmares and PTSD from seeing a burning car and smelling burning fkesh being totally unable to do anything except for calling 000 and a lady waited for a date who would NEVER arrive! I was at home with both my daughters watching TV and sorting out grass for our guinea pigs when there was a knock at the door. As it was past midnight abd we were not t expecting company my girls and I looked at each other wondering who could it be and so I got up and went to answer it. I found 2 Police Officers standing there and the Sargent asked to come inside as he had some "bad news" to tell me. At that moment I was thinking which one of my 3 sons it was who was dead. When he said that it was my brother I admit to being relieved. I realised then that my sister-in-law had sent them to me so that I would go and break the news to my father.I saw the Police to the door, got dressed and left on the 90 minute trip to my father's home. Telling him that his much loved only son was dead was the HARDEST thing I have ever had to do. I know that this is terribly long and I apologise but I wanted to explain how the most mundane nights can change MANY lives forever if you speed! It kills! Thanks for reading.

With so many streaming services and heaps of channels, I often don't know what to watch. Is there something you would recommend that's airing at the moment? I'm watching The last of Us on Foxtel, but it's limited episodes left. So needs some inspiration on what to watch next whether it be movies, TV series or a documentary series. I love them all. I have multiple streaming services so recommendations from any please.

I don't have any 'streaming services' (aka a cheap bastard - lol) on my computer - also I don't 'own' a TV - hence - I don't have 'any' suggestions on what to watch next. CIAO

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.

We seem to be lowering our speed limits on the open road, I understand the road toll is high but haven't we got more cars, slower speeds means longer trips which means more tired drivers, I think better driving education would work more
AlanH CENTRAL VIC
Speed limits are there for all of us to follow. they are there for our safety and the safety of other road users, we should all follow the rules.
